Have you ever been electrocuted? Glitch_in_the_Matrix

The events are clear in my mind, i’m just not sure what age specifically I was. This was one of those events that makes you lose large chunks of memory, or jump dimensions, or gives you super powers. I’m going to guess around twelve. My parents owned a block in a shitty small town, ran a few different businesses in the random buildings on the property. I have vague recollections of all the incarnations of the buildings, but this one in particular was in the middle, and at the time used for storage of lots of unused dilapidated electronic equipment. There were a few small cleared trails around the mess to make it from the front to the back and around. This was a small building, two story, I was on the first level, it was 700 sq.ft. tops.

I’ve always loved the thrill of the hunt, digging though stuff in thrift stores, never know what you are going to find. I’ve always been good at entertaining myself. It must have been summertime, since I wasn’t in school and I’m pretty sure this happened during the middle of the day, but it could have been on a weekend. It must have been summer, because I was in the building seeing if someone had hidden popsicles in the freezer on the back wall. This refrigerator was old, avocado green, the name of the brand eludes me, but it had been in our house since before I was born, until a few years before this, and just repurposed as the shop fridge. Anywho, I don’t remember if there were popsicles or not, but i do remember the most ridiculous buildup of ice on everything in the freezer, I was bored so I started picking at the ice on one of the shelves. I mean this had to be a good six inch buildup, was wayyy past time to defrost this thing.

I got a few chunks off pretty easily with just my fingers, so i squatted down and started to try a little harder. Around the fourth chunk i broke off i felt a weird feeling in the big joint on my left thumb. I was startled and confused, so, I did it again. This time, a slightly larger jolt, I felt it hit my elbow. Of course my dumbass twelve year old self does it again…

I wake up flat on my back on the floor, I have no idea where I am or how long I’ve been out, the freezer is till open, it doesn’t look like much has melted, but that wasn’t my main concern. My shoulder was killing me, and i was dazed af. I close the freezer door and go looking for someone, anyone to try and figure out how long I was unconscious. It’s all a blur, but i remember finding my parents and trying to ask them questions but them blowing me off, or not paying attention to me, or maybe I wasn’t even really physically there. I told them what happened and it was like they were ignoring me. Later that night I approached them at home and told them again what happened, of course they didn’t believe me, but I actually had interaction with them this time, ok, so I wasn't invisible anymore.

This has been the story of my life for the next twenty years… I have no control over it, sometimes for weeks at a time, I’m just invisible, I talk to people and it’s like they don’t hear anything, or people just walk into me, not like the occasional person not paying attention, but I can pick out certain periods where it was enraging the amount of times in a very brief window that people seems to just be out to get me, not like a shoulder brush, but a full on body contact that almost knocks me down with no apology. Swearing that I made plans with people for them to not show up without any warning or excuse. Having conversations with people that they vehemently deny ever happened. I’m not crazy, I have a crazy detailed memory of things that happened after that, like remembering minute details of situation that others don’t even remember until i bring it up.

Something clicked the other night that made sense. Sometimes I’m invisible, and it has to do with when I got electrocuted when I was a kid. There are some other “powers” that came along with it, I attract fire/electricity, or am very sensitive to the smell of a house fire starting, I have three instances of smelling wires overheating a full thirty minutes before anyone else and everyone looking at me like i’m crazy until the smoke starts seeping through a wall. Its usually just in time to kill the breakers and prevent disaster. Lightening also likes to strike very close to me, I DO NOT go outside during a thunderstorm, if I do lightening will strike within twenty feet of me. And believe me, if you have never experienced lightening that close, it’s a humbling experience.
