Fried Pickles: Batter, Buttermilk, Breading AskCulinary

I'm trying to figure out a good recipe for fried pickles, but going through threads here and on /r/cooking I've seen a few different ways to do it.

So I wanted to ask about using batter and dry mix vs. flour, buttermilk, dry mix. If I use batter and dry mix, do I need to use buttermilk? Is it still advisable to let it sit in the refrigerator for an hour or so? What's the best way to make the batter for this? Anything else I'm not thinking of?

Do you have any good recipes or other tips for fried pickles? Thank you!
