Would appreciate some electrical help (don't know where to start) vandwellers

Hi there Van Dwellers!

Long time lurker first time posting here

This is the album I am referencing photos in http://ift.tt/2bAfNVr

Me and my boyfriend recently purchased a motor home that needs some serious electrical work. We want to do it ourselves and feel comfortable doing it BUT we just can't find any resources on how to actually do it the right way (with specifics). We both understand the risks of working with electricity and want to make sure this is done properly.

I am going to try my best to explain everything that we have but forgive (and correct) me if I misname a couple of parts.

We have a 25amp "Power Converter with battery charger" (photo 1) that is run off of a car battery. This is supposed to charge and power 3 outlets, water heater, AC, gas/electric refrigerator, 4 small reading lights, 4 interior lights and 1 exterior light.

The battery is housed in a storage box (photo 2) that can be accessed from the outside of the van (passenger side), the wiring then travels to the drivers side where the converter and breaker box are held, from there most everything is powered through there.

My main questions are:

  • What solenoid do I buy to replace this? (preferably amazon link)

  • In photo 4 there is this part, it is rusted out on the bottom and needs to be replaced, any suggestion on what this is and where to buy a new one?

  • Tips for preventing total van meltdown (aka van electrical tips)

Thank you for any advice!
