Is it common to have to occasionally flush low-flow lines such as the washing machine and refrigerator? Plumbing

Can't remember why I tried this, but I disconnected the lines to our washing machine and then opened them up to a bucket and filled it up three or four times - both lines gave a slight rusty tint until the last flush. I assume it was because the line stays fairly stagnant. This morning, I thought I would do the same for the line to the refrigerator. The water wasn't tinted so much as it seemed to contain some kind of particles in it. We have a filter on the fridge water so it probably catches most of that, but I'm wondering 1) if I need to repeat this periodically and 2) if it is just left over stuff from construction, the house was built in 2014.

Thanks for any insight you can provide!
