So since my brewing group is scaling up to something like 50 litres a brew this summer, I decided that we needed a bigger and better fermentation chamber.
This is what I ended up with, photos are in reverse chronological order.
The 2x2 frame that I started with was originally going to be a kegerator but ended up being too big so I decided to build it into a fermentation chamber instead. The wood I got from my university club that had just finished some refurbishing of the club room. Cost me about 5€ I believe.
Rest of the wood I got from my father's storage, he had some leftovers as well. The veneer I had to buy, unfortunately.
Oh and the tabletop was likewise a thing that my parents had lying around. Heavy as hell, so I left it detachable. Maybe one day I'll make a tap tower on it.
Insulation was the next step, that I got from a friend for free as he had some leftover pieces lying around.
The cooling units and the heat sinks on the inside I got for free as they came from refrigerators with broken thermostats. I bought one of the working fridges and got the two broken ones to go alongside it.
Aside from that I bought this and that for the project: Screws, thermal paste, aluminium plates for connecting the cooling units to the heat sinks, insulating foam, foil tape, ...
I'm pretty sure this project cost me somewhere to the tune of 200€. Still not bad, money or result wise, especially given that I've never really built anything on my own before.
There's still stuff I need to do with it though. The door might need to be remade as the current one is quite flimsy. The fans on the heat sinks need to be properly connected somehow. Someday down the line I'll need to take out the cooling units and give the insides a proper anti-rust treatment as they will surely be rusting through in some years time.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed looking at it. I sure do. It was a real treat to build and an even bigger treat to finish!
