Long story short we want to dispose of an old refrigerator by way of blowing it up. I know this seems incredibly stupid but we are planning to take all possible precautions, including but not limited to helmets, safety glasses, an earthen bunker, and LOTS of distance. The actual method of blowing it up will consist of filling the fridge with tannerite and shooting it with a high velocity rifle from a long distance. Tannerite is made of ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder and is used in exploding targets. It's incredibly stable, you can burn it, drown it, electrify it, even shoot it with a shotgun and it won't go off. It is also perfectly legal to sell and transport as long as the two components are unmixed. We want to fill the fridge with the powder, seal it up, then set it off. Does that technically make it an I.e.d? If so is that legal? Also we plan to do this on a large, isolated plot of private hunting land in rural Mississippi on July Fourth, in hopes that the isolation and the holiday will negate any noise complaints we might otherwise receive. Even though this sounds fun nobody involved is willing to get arrested or put on some sort of list over this idea. So if anyone here knows if this is illegal or could point me to a resource for this, I'd greatly appreciate it, and I have no problem calling some sort of government agency and along them, but have no clue which one I should call. Thank you to anyone who may reply.
