(I posted this in /r/pics, but I figured it may be a fit here too, and a bit of an introduction to writing to me).
I worked enroute at Spangdahlem. For a time I worked as a MOC Augmentee (we were hurting for people). We dealt primarily in C-17s and C-5s, and dabbled a bit with KC-135s, KC-10s and every other asset AMC had.
We got a call in from a mission diverting from Ramstein to us. Nothing unusual about that, we were considered overflow parking already. Our ATOC guy pulls the mission up on his side of the desk, shakes his head, and tells me to call the Pro Super that we're not catching it, it's landing at Ramstein because we're not equipped to handle HRs.
Me being the nublet I was, I ask 'What the fuck are HRs?' but the ATOC guy is busy getting this C-17 that's 5 minutes out turned around and back south to Ramstein. I call the Pro Super and tell him, he seems confused but goes with it. Once the dust settled the ATOC guy told me.
"We don't have refrigerators. We're not equipped to have Human Remains stay overnight'.
Felt like shit for how I asked him.
