Maytag refrigerator fixit

Hey, guys! Had some questions for you all.

I have a 10 year old Maytag french door refrigerator. On Christmas (ikr?) we noticed that the refrigerator was not cooling. The freezer is working fine, the compressor is running, the lights all come on, but the fridge went room temperature.

I vacuumed out as much dust and animal fluff from the under coils as I could and set the airdoor to as open as I could but it didn't seem that anything was being blown into the fridge.

We had a repair person come out and he noted that the bottom of the fridge (near the freezer) had ice build up on the wall and that frost was forming around the door for the freezer.

He had to pull everything out of the freezer to get to the coils and panel because apparently our model is particularly annoying. He took a hair dryer to the components back there because it was all frozen over and he couldn't get to anything.

He did some diagnostics and told us that the control board and something else needed replacing and that it would cost roughly 400 dollars. Since it's a 2,000 dollar fridge, we agreed and he ordered the parts.

Since then, we have kept the fridge pretty much empty but for things that it's not an issue if they don't get cold (soda, sealed margarine) as all our other food went bad anyway. However, since he did whatever he did, the fridge is now cooling without any problems. I can feel the air flow at the top.

Is it somehow fixed now...? Did it just need the coils defrosted? Is this a problem that will keep happening if we do not get the repairs done? Is it too late to cancel the repairs since the parts were ordered and have already arrived? We are scheduled for Monday, but I hate to pay for repairs that don't need to be done when money is very tight for us.
