Ticks - creepypasta
I've always liked insects. Not the normal fascination that you see from kids with no friends and large round glasses, more like... i felt as if i could understand what they were doing. My parents never understood why i liked playing with them so much, neither did my siblings so for the most part i was alone during my childhood as we were homeschooled. I would go out into the yard and play around in the trees to find insects to watch and i would feel happy for a time.
That is until the day i turned sixteen and i started looking at girls, realizing i didn't have a clue what to do. I would freeze up when spoken to and answer in single word sentences or hand signals. I started to avoid other people and stuck to what i knew best: bugs. I started trying what i learned from them in real life and found that it worked. I could wear good smelling cologne and i could attract girls that way, because i wasn't bad looking or anything, just socially clueless. Or i could fight guys and beat them off by pushing and grapling like large beetles do, sometimes i would lose and just run away, but other times i would win and could do as i pleased.
Some people approached me one day when i was nineteen and asked me if i was interested in learning about insects. As a long time fan of insectology i said yes of course i did and what kind of learning would it be? They replied: It's a sort of hands on experiment, sort of hush hush because we want to know what will happen. We've asked a few people but most said no, and those that said yes refused after finding out what we wanted from them. So if you really want to do this then you're in.
That sounded strange to me, and i really wish i had declined right then, but of course i wanted to know more about the insects and just what they were up to. So i accepted. God what a huge mistake..
Two days later, we drove about an hour away from town, me in my old Ford car and them in a white unmarked car. As we turned off onto a dirt road we started to slow down and then stopped near some large trees. They all got out of their car so i did the same and approached them. I asked if something was wrong or was this the place, and they said this is the place and then one of them put his hand on the tree. A pannel of the trunk dissapeared and i realized the entire tree was made of tin, disguised as a rough old oak. As we descended t he stairs hidden inside the tree the air grew colder and colder until it was at refrigerator level. We must have been about fifty feet underground at that point.
The air smelt... strange. Like a combination of a faint beetle smell and a little blood. I remembered the smell from somewhere but for some reason i could not quite remember where i had smelt it before... The lead researcher, who had not introduced himself nor his colleagues led me around the first few rooms which were all normal enough, monitors showing levels of some sort and a map of the underground which i took a small glance at and realized the tunnels were quite extensive. When we got to the last door in the hall, he said we must all go through a shower chamber to clean off any bacteria on our skin or clothes and if i wanted to go first to get a good look at what was on the other side. I accepted as i was quite excited and entered the room.
It was a very small room with pipes and faucets on the roof, but for some reason there was no door on the other side, i turned to ask the reasearcher why this was if we were meant to go on the other side but the door was closed and there was no one looking through the small window. i heard a slight woosh and then the pipes rumbled. Nothing happened. I began to feel slightly dizzy and when i looked at my feet as i leaned against the walls for support i saw some kind of gas begining to drift upwards. My vision became very unfocused and my muscles started to relax when i needed them to support my weight but nothing was obeying. I fell onto the ground and caught a glimpse of the head researcher through the window with absolutely no emotion on his face. and then my world faded to black.
When i woke up i was aware of the beetle smell being much more noticeable and the blood smell was as well. I felt as if something were pulling on me on the sides of my chest and all the way down my legs. But i couldn't lift myself. It was much colder now and my limbs felt like they were asleep as if my blood wasn't flowing through them to keep the nerves alive. I heard a door close somewhere towards my left foot and steps walking into the room closer to me.
You are awake i take it? said the voice. It was the head reasearcher. Yes. I managed. Good. I would like to explain to you what you will be doing for us, and i wish to thank you in advance as i will be leaving shortly after my explanation. he replied. I could tell he was standing beside my foot now, but not too close. Do you know the common wood tick? They attach themselves to anything that comes near to suck blood from their host to lay their eggs in when they have enough. They are capable of making normal blood into blood that is much stronger and better for the system We at the Savaria Blood Corporation have created a truly genius system of obtaining vitamin enriched blood to give to patients in need of blood transfusions. Genetically modified wood ticks. Giant ones. I am sure you have noticed that your body feels numb and you are very cold, possibly slightly weighed down? Yes. We have attached 6 of them to you and they are marvelously pumping just enough blood out of you to be efficient, but not enough to kill you or render you unconcious as you will need to eat and drink lots. The beetles are capable of enriching blood with vitamins to feed their babies when they are born, except that these beetles are not able to produce spawn and will simply suck blood and enrich it until they pop. Of course we remove them from the donor and then store them to keep the blood safe so that they do not explode and remove all that blood. You will most likely only be down here for a few weeks because these beetles are able to suck enough blood to fill in a few hours, so someone will be in here to remove them routinely and give you something to eat and drink. Please don't give them any problems.
After that he exited from the same door, leaving me with six giant mutated wood ticks attached to my body. I could feel it now, the slow draining of my blood from six points on my body. It was like something was attracting the heat out of my body and pulling on me. Every now and then one would rearange it's mandibles inside my flesh and puncture new holes, the agony was almost unbearable and i found myself counting down until they would be removed. When i finally heard the door open i gasped with relief and cried out to take these damn things off. The man simply chuckled and started his task. After he had taken them all off he removed the straps holding me down and helped me sit up as i was very weak. He helped me eat and drink as he always does and was in a hurry at attaching new beetles and he left the room.
He had forgotten to tie me down.
With what little strength i had i pulled at the ticks to remove them, four had not attached themselves yet, the ones at my shoulders and sides but the ones on my legs... i could feel them biting in and starting to pull again. I did not have the strength to sit up so i lie there and experienced yet again the draining of my blood from the mouths of the beetles, a horrible thought came over me, what if he realized he had forgotten and came back? I struggled to sit up and managed finally after twisting myself sideways and pushing up with my hands. I got my first glance at the beetles sucking my life away.
Big and shiny black, but still flat as they had no blood in them, their heads visible against my leg and mandibles puncturing my calves viciously as they took in my blood. I watched with horror as they shook slightly and grew larger and larger by the minute as i could not pry them away. I decided to start hitting it on the head but remembered it had no effect on them so i tried squeezing the bulbous thorax to try and make it recoil as the blood rushed back through it's mouth. I immediately regretted my mistake as i felt extremely dizzy and fell back onto the table my head spinning at the rush of blood into my body. But there was a scuttling and squealing side on the floor to my right as the beetle had come off. It was rushing about on the ground and trying to reach it's food which was too high. It turned towards my gaze and i saw blood dripping from it's mouth onto the floor as it heaved and screeched. I tried to sit up again but found i could not, so it was many more minutes before i had the other one off my leg on the floor screeching at me. The other four had remained silent as they had not tasted blood yet, but they were scuttling around the other two and sniffing them, at least i think thats what they were doing.
I decided it would be wise to wait on the table and gather my strength before trying to leave the room. Which gave me time to inspect my sides and legs. Several puncture marks all arranged the same way, two small ones and one bigger one in the middle, Upon closer inspection i could see that they branched out and touched all of my veins in that area. No wonder i had felt numb, the beetles were sucking me dry in the areas they were. I was wearing a white skin tight costume that was open at the shoulders legs and sides to allow the beetles free reign over where they wanted to suck blood from. Finally about two hours later i decided it was time to hide behind the door and wait for the researcher to come in. But the problem was, the beetles followed me around very slowly. I would have to kill them. But how? I had nothing there was no way i could kill them by hand as i was much too weak from bloodloss. Then an idea came to me. I could just wait on the table and dangle my leg over the edge to attract one then get off the table, lift it and bring the leg down onto its head and get back onto the table crushing it. I waited another half hour and then set my plan in motion. Another mistake.
As soon as my leg was over the edge the beetles leapt for it pincers clacking and screeching loudly, a sound i will never forget as it was so horrible, so filled with primal instinct that i almost fell backward off the table. I lifted my leg out of the way and ran to the door. My luck finally kicked in and it was unlocked so i was out in a second and the door closed. I had spent about four hours in the room and nobody would come for a few more hours, three at best.
Sneaking through the winding corridors was a nightmare, i could hear screaming from others trapped but i was too weak to help them. When you get out you can get help. i kept telling myself. As i passed a door i looked inside and saw a woman lashed to the table with four beetles attached to her. She had her head up which meant she hadn't been here long, and she was staring right at me. Help. she mouthed. All i could do was stare back at her not knowing what to do. Finally i opened the door and approached her. You're wearing that suit! Please, take these things off me i want to get out of here. she said. I grabbed the back of the first beetle and told her: lay back down, close your eyes and breathe regularly. I squeezed the beetle and saw her squirm on the table and begin to sweat, but the first beetle was off. i put it on the ground and stomped on it's head until it stopped moving. I repeated the procedure with the other three and she began panting after the second one. After the last one she tried to sit up, but i pushed her head back down and undid the bindings. She rolled onto her sided and pued over the edge. After a good long minute she got up and walked towards the door. I know the way out, i saw the map and decided to take a good look at it. All of the chambers down here run in a circle then up a ways out to the main rooms. There should only be two or three personel down here right now. Lets go. I was so glad i helped her i laughed, at which she looked at me funny.
We got to the main rooms and heard someone talking in the room to the right. The hosts are doing fine, the new girl has O negative so it should fetch quite a bit of money as it's good quality too. We snuck past them into the staircase, and right into the head reasearcher. I don't even know what happened but something had pinched my arm and i was down on the ground.
I woke up to a pounding headache and an overpowering smell of beetles. I could feel things moving around me and i felt numb all over. I moved my arm and felt it drag something heavy and knew i was covered in ticks and that if i didnt get out soon i would die. I heard a small groan over to my right and knew that it was the girl i had saved from earlier. I nudged her and she whispered: Get me out of here. Please. How am i supposed to do that? I'm stuck too. And i dont think squeezing them is a good idea in here. Lets try attacking the mandibles. I reach over to my right side pulling two ticks onto my chest as they were attached to my left side tear at the mandibles attached to my right side, and as expected it retracted enough for me to push it away. I repeated the process on the other two on my left arm. The pain involved in this task was less than i thought it would be as their saliva masks pain and keeps the blood flowing. I sat up and began to remove the ones my legs as thankfully the ones attached to my arms had blocked my sides and did not allow more ticks to attach themselves to me. After i got them all off i knelt and helped the girl remove the ones attached to her arms as there were four of them and she couldnt move from bloodloss. I felt something biting my leg and immediately cried out in pain and attacked the beetle trying to latch its mandibles into flesh. I had to carry the girl on my back, which was very difficult as i was weak but the door was easily visible from where we were. I just hoped it wasn't locked.
It was.
I told the girl to lean against the door and hold the knob to support herself because i could no longer carry her and i needed something to open the door. I thought of using a stone to break the knob off but of course there was no loose stones in the room. Or perhaps taking a mandible off a beetle and picking the lock but there was no keyhole or lock on the inside.
Why dont you break the door with a beetle, they're hard right? said the girl from the door with a weak voice. Worth a shot. I went over to a beetle that was on its back away from the others and i grasped it on its sides and brought it over to the door screeching and wriggling its legs. I bashed the door knob with it over and over until it finally gave way. I pushed the knob out the other side and forced the door open, a hand laid itself down heavily on my arm and i saw the girl leaning on me pale faced and devoid of blood. It was at that moment i noticed she had another beetle attached to her leg. I attacked it with rage and it reeled but kept drinking. Tearing it's mandibles off with rage i realized that i hated these beetles with reckless anger and swore to myself i would kill every tick i saw after that day.
Escaping the compoud after that was easy as it was night and everyone had gone except the night guard who was not in the main rooms at the time. After getting out of the tree we found her car where she had parked it and we got ourselves back into town. Too exhausted to do anything i found a bar to crash and she went home after saying a hasty thank you and good bye, but i was too tired to care.
In the morning i awoke to men standing around me smelling faintly of beetles and blood...
End.
