We went in for our 20 week anatomy scan today, and while the place was sleek and modern with soothing music and natural light, I felt very alienated as the dad.
I mean it's relatively minor, but everything was entirely focused on the mom and I certainly didn't get much love in the place.
We go in and my wife asks a water that she sees in a refrigerator in the waiting room, so I walk over and get her a bottle and decided to take out another one for me, but the receptionist said that those bottles were only for the mom and I had to use the water fountain.
Alright, whatever...no big deal.
Then my wife goes to the bathroom, and I decided to also go once she came back....and I wander down the hallway and quickly see the women's bathroom....then I keep wandering...and wandering...and then someone asks if I'm looking for the bathroom. I tell them, "yes". And then they proceed to tell me that I need to go back to the waiting room, out the office doors, down the main hallway, and then look for the bathroom by the elevator.
None of this was helped by me having to just stand in the corner of the room during the scan, because my mother-in-law was with us and she was sitting in the only chair in the room.
Like I said, it's relatively minor stuff, but it really made me feel a bit alienated. It's a good place for mom, so we are using them as our provider, but seriously, fuck your $0.25 8oz bottle of water and your male bathrooms on the other side of the building.
