Wife and I went vegan at the beginning of the year. Our 20-year-old son and 16-year-old daughter did not, and refuse to consider it.
We used to cook and eat together as a family, but now since they don't have any interest in the meals we're cooking, they just eat fast food, at work, or at friends' houses.
Son just takes it all in stride. He pokes a little fun, and goes for a slice of pizza or something. Daughter, however, complained about it constantly. "There's never anything to eat in this house!", etc...We keep the house VERY well-stocked with staples like grains and tons of fresh, local, organic vegetables, as well as faux meats. But, she wants cheese, and deli meat, and expects that we will continue to buy what she wants.
Wife, unbeknownst to me, finally caved, and gave her the debit card. So, imagine my surprise when I come home to find lunch meat, cheese, cow's milk, etc. in my fridge! I was upset with Wife for giving in to Daughter's constant complaints and manipulation, and what I consider to be an overly spoiled and entitled attitude.
On the other hand, Daughter seemed much happier after she got what she wanted, and even made us a vegan spaghetti dinner last night!
So the deal I am considering is this:
(1) All animal products must be bought with your own money (they are both employed and mobile).
(2) All animal products must be stored in the garage refrigerator.
(3) The kitchen must be completely cleaned after preparing any animal-based food. First failure, warning. Second failure, second warning. Third failure, this deal is null and void, and all animal products are evicted from the house.
I consider this a reasonable agreement, and so does Wife.
Thoughts?
