Carbonation issue? Homebrewing

So I bottled my first batch about a week and a half ago and decided to pop 'er open and give it a taste. I brewed an American Amber. Everything seemed to have gone fine during the brewing and fermentation, but when I opened it it had very, VERY little carbonation. It tasted alright, but just flat.

My question is, is it a lost cause because I've already had it chilled in the refrigerator? I did some reading up on here and perhaps I should've waited longer. Is it possible to remove it from the refrigerator for another week or so, or is it already too late?
