Techniques for always having fresh-ish ingredients on hand? AskCulinary

What are your tricks and tips for storing and growing produce (year round, though less of a focus on summer's abundance) so you always have good ingredients on hand, even if you can't go to the grocery or cook frequently enough? I hate when produce goes bad in the fridge, I wish I could just always have fresh produce on hand.

Some techniques that work for me so far: -growing my own herbs (chives, rosemary, and anything I only use sparingly or rarely) -growing my own jalapeƱo peppers -storing green onions in a glass jar with water, not in the refrigerator -frozen produce -frozen garlic cubes -pureeing herbs in bulk with oil and citric acid to store in 1-2oz cubes in the freezer -freezing fresh sliced bread for toast

I'd love to learn more! Thank you!
