Is it more frugal to replace this refrigerator or wait for it to die? Frugal

Last Friday, an appliance repair man was out and replaced the controller. Several hours later, still warm. He said to wait overnight. The next morning, the fridge was about 50, the freezer was cold, but a tray of ice was not freezing. We had an all day event, and left it as is. Sunday morning, no difference. Monday, we called him and he said it sounded like the compressor might need replacing and we'd likely be better off replacing the unit.

So, I ordered a new refrigerator, and it will be delivered June 19th.

In the meantime, it fridge is down to 40, and we have a separate chest freezer, so we'll keep using this one.

The point of all this: As of today, the freezer has re-frozen and the automatic ice-maker has started producing ice. So, ...was the repair a success? Should I cancel the appliance I have on order? We tend to be frugal and don't want to spend the $ if this fridge now has some considerable life left in it, but we also don't want to have to buy a fridge unexpectedly 2 months from now when we might not get as good a deal.

Also, would anything I've mentioned mean that the fridge is drawing more electricity than optimal?

Thanks for any insight! WWYD?
