A conversation with my son. cripplingalcoholism

Some of you may know, yesterday my son and his fiancee' moved in with my Dad. Makes perfect sense, their apartment was 800 a month. They are trying to save money for their future and a down payment on a house.

They are paying him rent and utilities, so this is not a free ride kinda deal. My son really does have his shit together. 2 year degree, works for a stable company, pays his own way. Hell, he's 24 years old and has a goddamn TD Ameritrade account. Dude has stable stocks and is investing for his retirement.

Anyway, after we dropped the truck off, the last thing we needed to get was the stuff out of his refrigerator. Which we did, and headed back to Dad's.

He had a bottle of Fireball and 2 Jameson's that he put in Dad's freezer. And after a long day, he poured himself a decent amount of Jameson.

And the look in his eyes after taking that drink concerned me. I know that look all too well. Contentment. I think there are only three people or so on here that know what he looks like. He has the longest, blackest eyelashes that I've ever seen, and dark beautiful brown eyes. (I'm biased, I know).

So I asked him to come out on the deck with me. I lit up a smoke, and told him to be careful. I told him at his age, I was drinking responsibly just like he is. But it can catch up with you, and have you by the balls before you know it. He already has hereditary alcoholism in his genes, (I truly believe that is a thing, the hereditary factor). He assured me that he doesn't drink everyday, but I've heard some stories from his fiancee' where he's known to get shitfaced on the weekend. And they Uber home.

I don't want this for my son. I think he listened to me, and it hit home. He's not stupid, he's knows I'm an alcoholic that is struggling to get it under control.
