Hello r/fitness,
I trained a lot when I was a teenager, as young adult, in the military, and then started to bike around the world. That was 8 years and +100k km ago. My cardio and endurance is, to say it lightly, pretty good. Running 100km or cycling 500km in a day is fine.
But my upper body strength, abs, back, etc have suffered. I lost a lot of muscle mass and would like to start training again to get it back. I know how I'd do that at home, with a daily routine, with equipment, with a gym... but not when on tour.
I stay in hotels, hostels, stealth-camp and couchsurf a lot. I carry my belongings in a few bags on the bike, there is no space for training gear, I'd be limited to BWE and improvised gear. The biggest hurdle is the food: I have extremely high calorie requirements on my touring days, I cycle ~160km/100miles a day on average and burn my 2500calories base + 5000calories for the cardio I do. I need to carry most of my food too, so I have to be careful about what I buy, and I spend lots of time in third-world or developing countries, which limits my options. Since I go camping without access to a refrigerator, I can't by consumables that need to be cooled down, except when I eat them directly after buying them.
I'm 27 years old, 188cm and weight 79kg.
I don't know if you guys are up for it, but I thought creating a training plan would be an interesting challenge for this sub. :)
Cheers, Patrick
