GE Refrigerator has clicking noise and flickering lights. Web search results suggest main board failure? Appliances

My GE fridge is about 12 years old and we’ve never really had any major problems with it. This past week, the ice dispenser started working intermittently, then stopped working entirely. Around the same time we started hearing a clicking noise coming from the back area of the fridge. It would repeat for a while then stop. Yesterday the clicking became continuous and now the fridge had stopped cooling entirely. Some web searches suggest that the problem is likely a failure of the fridge main circuit board. Seems easy enough to change out the part but I’m wondering if the board failed due to another part failing first, and if I replace the board, will the new board just burn out if there’s still another underlying problem? The model of the fridge is GSH25KGRE WE. Can anyone offer any advice on how best to proceed?
