Any kitchen suite buying tips? Appliances

All,

Just bought a house and we're thinking about replacing the outdated appliances. I figure buying the whole kitchen suite (dishwasher, gas range/over, refrigerator, and built-in microwave) would be best as we need 3/4 items anyways.

Are there any brands that we should stay away from?

Are there any brands worth paying a premium for?

Any particular stores that we should or shouldn't use?

Also, we don't have a truck so we will need to buy from a store that delivers and hauls away, etc...

Thanks in advance!

Edit: clarification.

Samsung Appliances Failure - Help/Options??? Appliances

Quick Story Version…

We built and moved into our new house in Feb. 2014. We purchased all Samsung appliances for our kitchen and laundry (Refrigerator, Stove/Oven, Microwave, Dishwasher, Front-load Washer and Dryer). Every appliance we purchased in Dec. 2013/Jan. 2014 has either: 1) Completely Failed – Microwave (2016), 2) Curranty - “In the Process of Failing” (Stove/Oven, Dishwasher) or 3) Partially Failed Requiring Repair (Front-load Washer, Refrigerator Ice Maker and Door Seal).

My Question to Everyone…

Is there anyone at Samsung (above and beyond “Customer Support”) that I can contact to voice my concerns with? Has anyone had similar issue’s and if so where you able to resolve them?

Final Thoughts…

I understand and can accept isolated events of product failure, however – when each and every product has a life-span of less than 3 – 4 years I begin to question the company in general.

Please pass along any tips or ideas you may have to bring closure to this unpleasant (expensive) situation I find myself dealing with.

Thank You

GE Refrigerator has clicking noise and flickering lights. Web search results suggest main board failure? Appliances

My GE fridge is about 12 years old and we’ve never really had any major problems with it. This past week, the ice dispenser started working intermittently, then stopped working entirely. Around the same time we started hearing a clicking noise coming from the back area of the fridge. It would repeat for a while then stop. Yesterday the clicking became continuous and now the fridge had stopped cooling entirely. Some web searches suggest that the problem is likely a failure of the fridge main circuit board. Seems easy enough to change out the part but I’m wondering if the board failed due to another part failing first, and if I replace the board, will the new board just burn out if there’s still another underlying problem? The model of the fridge is GSH25KGRE WE. Can anyone offer any advice on how best to proceed?

Recommend low noise fridge? Appliances

Can someone recommend a low-noise refrigerator? The review sites seem to ignore this concern.

Our rental has an Amana (Type: 18MSTFA Model: ART308FFDM03 Mfg date: 09-17) that makes a racket, driving my sweetie nuts.

It's probably the loudest fridge I've ever heard. Multiple service calls and swapping the unit hasn't helped. Neighbors have same unit, with the same complaints.

My Ice Maker is not making Ice Appliances

It’s so humid and you want to enjoy an iced fruity smoothie at home. However, when you tried to get some ice, there’s none. There are a lot of symptoms that your ice maker is not functioning properly. One of the visible symptoms is if it’s not making ice the way it was supposed to anymore. Some symptoms could be that it’s only serving crushed ice instead of ice cubes. Ice makers are very simple machines that you will notice something wrong right away.

Troubleshooting and repairing an ice maker could be tough but there are actually some simple remedies that you can do at home to manually fix it before calling a professional. You need to learn how an ice maker works first. You need to be aware of this so that at least, you will have an idea how it operates.

After you identify how an ice maker works, next, you should be able to identify where the problem lies. Here is one symptom and its possible solution that might work for you.

Ice Maker Does Not Make Ice – This could mean that the water passage is blocked or the solenoid doesn’t work. Here are the steps that you can follow to get your ice maker working:

Check the water supply line. If the ice maker doesn’t make ice but you can see the arm swing into motion and you hear a buzz for about 10 seconds, the water valve is asking for water that isn’t arriving. This means the valve and the solenoid are probably okay, but the water supply is not. Be sure the water supply line isn’t kinked behind or beneath the refrigerator (1/4-inch copper tubing is much better than plastic fill line to prevent kinks).

See if the fill tube is frozen. Check to see if something has caused ice to back up around the mechanism—this can cause the fill tube to freeze. When ice cubes are small and seem to be getting smaller, it generally indicates a frozen fill tube.

Look inside the ice mold. If it’s filled with full-sized ice, the problem may be the water supply fill valve or the electrical connection that operates the system. To verify that the motor works, you can make a “jumper” and test it—if you’re comfortable and safe working with electricity. To do this, strip the ends from a small length of electrical wire. Insert the bare-wire ends into the “T” and “H” holes in the motor unit. This will manually start a cycle.

Check the water line that enters the back of the freezer for a blockage. Find the water shut-off valve behind the refrigerator or under the sink, turn it off, unscrew the copper line from the back of the refrigerator, put the copper line in a bucket, turn on the valve, and see if water pours out.

These are just simple steps that you can follow at home however, if you still don’t get your ice maker working, then, it’s time for an ice maker repair. Call the doctor! We have a same-day service team at Appliance Doctor Inc. who is ready to take your call for help when you need it. We will also be happy to provide helpful suggestions on how to avoid this from happening in the future. For immediate service in Lee and Collier Counties in Southwest Florida, local residents can use our convenient contact numbers located on the contact us page.

Samsung refrigerator maintenance help Appliances

I have a 2011 Samsung RSG257AARS fridge. The users' manual says nothing about cleaning condenser coils, which I understand to be extremely important. I opened the rear panel to discover the coils hidden deep behind the fan and compressor. (PICS: http://ift.tt/2jMY3dR) The coils weren't accessible at the front of the fridge either. Is this a sign that I should just leave them alone?

After a 'retro fridge' but smeg and big chill are too expensive Appliances

Ideally want a new (not 2nd hand, unless fairly recent) fridge, was hoping to spend under 1000 USD for a tall fridge (not compact). We have a cabin and want that more classic look, e.g. http://ift.tt/2mMJOqw]

although I want it in white.

In the USA I've only been able to find Smeg and Big Chill brands which are expensive. Anyone know of other brands that sell this look (or other search keywords I should be using than retro 1950s classic).

Thanks

Is there a better quality Ice Maker for Frigidaire? Appliances

I'm on my second OEM Frigidaire Ice Maker and after a couple of years of use it's broken just like the first one - it makes loud popping sounds when it's trying to dump ice and sometimes needs help to do so.

The model number of my refrigerator is FFHS2622MSU.

Is there a upgraded model or a third party model that's more reliable? I really don't want to replace my ice maker every couple of years.

Thanks,

PulsarAV

Possible to add ice maker to non-icemaker freezer? Appliances

Given enough ambition and duct tape, can I install an ice maker into a freezer not made for one? I need a small fridge and none of them offer ice makers. So I guess what I'm asking is, can I drill the hole through the back for the water line, and mounting screw holes? I'm sure splicing the wiring in would be easy enough, or just give it it's own plug.

Fastest pour for water dispensing refrigerators Appliances

One of my pet peeves for my current water dispensing refrigerator is the amount of time it takes to fill my water bottle before I leave for the gym. I feel like I'm standing there for ages. That said, I'm getting ready to move into my own place, and I'd like to get a fridge that meets my needs specifically. Those are: French doors, ice maker(preferably in the door), and the fastest dang water pourer on the market. Any suggestions?

Refrigerator Saga. Help with correct part. Appliances

We have a GE dshs9ngybcss fridge. Last week the fan got very loud and a member here on /appliances was good enough to show me how the fan itself actually just worked its way up the spindle and then needed to be pushed down. A+!

Then the water dispenser stopped working, since fixed on its own but I suspect a line was kinked from rolling it in and out.

NOW. the fridge and freezer are not getting cold. Right now fridge is 62 and freezer 34. All in one week!

Does this sound like a mother board? If so, can anyone tell me what boartd# to get, the model seems one letter off although maybe this is the retailer? This is what I thought might work. WR55X10956

Kitchen not plumbed for ice maker, can I remove the unit from the freezer to gain capacity? Appliances

My home was built before ice makers were common and my kitchen is not plumbed to provide water to the refrigerator. I'm planning to replace the fridge soon but the overwhelming majority include ice makers which will be wasted in my application. My question is can I remove the ice maker and accompanying bucket/storage, and feed augur to increase my freezer capacity?

Refrigerator Temperature Control Replacement Question Appliances

I have a Frigidaire side-by-side that I have diagnosed with a bad temperature control. My question is, how important is it that I replace it with the same part number? My options from amazon are $25-$65, or I can check the local dump if this is a fairly ubiquitous part between fridges.

Pricing on a genuine GE MWF refrigerator water filter? Appliances

Nobody on the internet sells this thing for less than $40 (amazon, etc) but there's a number of listings on ebay for apparently the real deal....

http://ift.tt/2hEb48H

If it looks too good to be true, it probably is, I was just wondering if anybody knew about this, thought it odd or had an explanation?

Thanks.
