Cold Water Pipe for fridge. refrigeration

Found a water pipe behind my old refrigerator as I was putting my new one. The tip of the pipe is corroded, the worker who came to put my new fridge in said he couldn't connect the pipe to the fridge unless I fix the corrosion. I was wondering, if the corrosion is at the tip is it only going to be at the tip or throughout the whole pipe? Because if it's only at the tip can I just cut that part out and attach it to my new fridge, or will I have to get a completely new cold water pipe?
