One of the things that is most frustrating to me about my mom's hoarding is the way she seems to be unable to understand that if a certain space is already full of things, you cannot put more things into that space.
The current best example of this is my parents' refrigerator. To any normal person, a refrigerator is a thing that eventually runs out of room inside of it. Not to my mom, oh no.
It doesn't matter to her that you already have to punch back the things inside of it so that the doors will close. It doesn't matter that it's so completely jam packed in there that you can't even see the light inside of the refrigerator. It doesn't matter that if you try to take one thing out of it, an avalanche of things starts to fall out from behind it. Nope, obviously it's perfectly fine to go grocery shopping for more things that need to be refrigerated!
It makes me want to take her by the shoulders, shake her, and scream in her face that THERE IS NO ROOM. HOW CAN SHE NOT COMPREHEND THIS. But she can't see it. It's like there is a part of her brain missing that would allow her to understand the physical limits of a contained space. I can't fucking stand it.
