Kind of new to this thread, though I'm an experienced lucid dreamer. I mostly lurk, but have offered advice here and at r/SleepParalysis. I had an interesting episode this morning I wanted to share; but much like my only share thread at SP, I'm not sure if this falls into just one category. (Seems I'm having more of these "in between" episodes more frequently.)
As I was waking up today, my room was grey from the overcast morning. I had been dreaming that I was a witness on trial for a professor who was sexually assaulting students and I remember coming out from the dream as it cut to black (behind my eyelids), thinking to myself that was a strange plot, and then opening my eyes to a grey-lit room.
I lay there for a moment to think about my dream, to try and store it, and then figured it would be a good idea to log it into my dream journal. When I looked over to my nightstand a chill went up my spine as a blurry vision of some kind of ape was lying next to me. (Recalling the vision now gives me the chills.) I tried to scoot away to get a better view of the creature, but was unable move.
I felt frantic at first, but logic quickly took over and I thought sleep paralysis. My hand was on the pillow in front of me, so I used my go-to method of trying to wiggle a finger. It moved! I go to stretch my arm out and nothing happens. I try again, and again, again... Flapping my arm up and down and sometimes I see it fly up, but it's a blurred flash and my hand stays on the pillow.
I'm about to start freaking out because I'm in bed with what appears to be a dead ape and I cannot get out of this SP as quickly as I've been able to many times before. But again, calm and logic come to me; I'm thinking about facts sleep paralysis can last hours; I'm thinking about my own belief systems that is not an actual creature next to you, but a figment of your imagination. (When I think now that I heard myself talking to myself in third, that seems sort of odd, too.)
These things calm me down a little, but my main goal is to wake up from this. (Sleep Paralysis, for the most part, hasn't been a freaky thing for me - but on rare occasion that it is, I prefer to wake up "just in case.") At this calmer point I'm able to start deriving a plan. I think the fake ape is clearly dead or sleeping, not affecting you. You can go back to sleep and find another way out. I see my eyelids start to close and then my vision goes black.
When I reopen my eyes I am in my kitchen downstairs, but I know that I'm asleep/dreaming already. The refrigerator door is already open and the light coming from the bulb is so bright that I back up instinctively. I hear a male's voice coming from inside, asking me why I would go to his trial as a false witness.
I peer inside, only brightness that doesn't hurt my eyes, and say "I didn't. This is a dream. You're dreaming." He sounds relieved and confused. I tell him "I'm dreaming too. We just need to wake up, ok?" He mutters ok. I slam the fridge shut and BAM! I'm awake in my room. I sit up and it is indeed overcast outside.
I don't know where the trial came from, I haven't seen or read anything in the news. Nor am I in college. And the dead ape? Comments and speculations welcome.
