I Still Can't Explain It Paranormal

These stories happened over the course of about a week and aren’t my only stories about what I think is “paranormal”. Honestly, I have never actually seen a ghost, but I have had very strange experiences. These few stories will be some of those experiences.

Warning: These stories are a bit long.

When I was around 16 years old, I lived in a home with my mom, her boyfriend, and my brother. My brother was pretty much my best friend, as he’s only 18 months older than me. We’re very close. My mom and I are close and well and Tom (my mom’s boyfriend at the time), I was pretty much indifferent towards. He was a good guy. The point I want to make it that no one in my family would have tried to intentionally scare me without later letting me know. My mom would have never intentionally scared me to begin with. Tom wouldn't have done anything. And my brother, although being a jokester, would always tell me if he had done something to scare me.

Story #1: I had just gotten home from school and there was no one home at the time. I usually would take the bus home, but every now and then I would walk, since I only lived about a mile away from the school I went to. Anyway I had decided to walk that day, as my brother left school with one of his friends to stay with them for the weekend. So, it’s Friday and as I soon as I got home, I got a cola from the fridge and sat down in front of the computer to play The Sims. I had just gotten the new Sims Superstar expansion pack and was so excited to play. The computer room was smaller than a bedroom, similar to an office or a study. There was a treadmill to the left of the computer and a closet to the right. When you sat at the computer, you would be facing away from the hallway, so there was a pretty big open space between the computer chair and the hallway. As I’m waiting for my game to load, I hear a strange noise coming from the back of the house.

I can’t tell you the square footage of the house, I’m not sure. But there was a garage, living room, two regular bedrooms, a master bedroom with master bath, and then another bathroom near the two bedrooms, which were mine and my brother’s rooms. The master bedroom was in the very back of the house and that is where I heard the noise coming from.

I shrug it off at first, assuming it was just a noise from the house settling. The best way I can describe the sound is almost a creaking. Which was weird, because our floors were carpet. Anyway, a couple of minutes later, I hear the noise again. I was starting to think “this is weird”, mostly because I’d never heard this sound before. The Sims was still loading (This was the original Sims and Sims Superstar, so it took quite a while.) I opened my cola and took a gigantic swig and forgot about the noises. My game started up and I figured I wanted to create an entirely new family and house (if you don’t know, The Sims was basically a simulation game where you created a family and house. You could make your characters do all sorts of things, even make babies!) I made a new house and a new family and was on my way to get the parents jobs and all that good stuff the game came with.

As I’m playing the game, I hear the sound again. It had probably been about 20 minutes from the time the first sound happened. I tried to rule things out in my mind. First, I knew no one was home, so it couldn’t have been that. I thought maybe it was the air conditioner, but again I’d never heard this sound before. Refrigerator, maybe? The wind? An open window somewhere? I searched my house for any open windows, none. It wasn’t the refrigerator. It wasn’t windy outside at all. After finishing searching, I sit back down at the computer and start to play my game again. 5 minutes later, the sound happens again. “Okay” I thought “what in the hell is that noise?” I get up and go to back of the house, the master bedroom, where I heard the sound coming from. I look up and I see the ceiling fan moving slowly back and forth. The ceiling fan had not been on. There were no windows open. I didn’t understand how it could be moving like that without it being on or any wind blowing. After I had seen the ceiling fan moving like that, I was so bewildered. I just went and sat back down at the computer and didn’t hear the sound again. At all. Ever.

Story #2: This happened about a week after the first “occurrence” (Story 1). Everyone was home when this one happened, but it was pretty much time for everyone to go to bed. I had just finished brushing my teeth at the bathroom sink, when the door to the bathroom slowly closed. You know how in horror movies, you’ll see a door slowly open or close and it makes that awful creaking sound? That was just like this door slowly closing. Creeeaaak, and then the door closed all the way. I immediately threw down my toothbrush and ran out of the bathroom. I looked back and forth, up and down the hallway, and didn’t see anyone.

The closest door was my bedroom door, then my brother’s bedroom was about ten feet down from mine. His door was shut, and I was just assuming he was messing with me and shut his door to make it look like it wasn’t him. Or something. Had to be him. I ran down the hallway and opened his door, and he was laying down in his bed, with the covers on, reading a book. He didn’t have any look on his face like he normally would if he had done something to spook me. I asked him “Seriously, did you just shut the bathroom door?” He had this strange look on his face, his eyebrows wrinkled and his mouth looked like he was in shock. He shook his head and said that he didn’t do anything. I asked him why he looked like he had seen a ghost. He said “That same thing happened to me last night…I thought it was just you messing with me.” He immediately got up and searched our house. Our parents were already asleep and he told me to stay put while he looked around. He came back and just shook his head, saying there wasn’t anything out of place. He told me I could sleep on his floor if it made me feel better, and I told him I’d be fine. We didn’t talk much more about it after that.

Story #3: This happened a few days after Story 2. It was close to bedtime again, and I brushed my teeth and went to bed. It was about 2AM, maybe closer 3AM when I woke up to this monotonous, buzzing sound. I got up out of bed and searched my room for what felt like forever while this buzzing sound kept on going, not stopping at all. I search under my bed and in my closet and couldn’t find anything. Then I opened my sock drawer, and the buzzing grew louder. Almost blaring now. I dig around and find an old metronome underneath a few pairs of socks. I picked it up and the sound was definitely coming from it. I couldn’t find an off button, so I turned it over to take out the batteries. Much to my surprise…there weren’t any batteries. The compartment for the two triple A batteries…was empty. I felt this surge of adrenaline and smashed the metronome against the wall. It stopped buzzing. I reluctantly went back to my bed and pulled the covers over my head.

Not even ten minutes later, I hear this crash in my room. It was like someone had dropped something, just very loud. I jump a little bit and my brother runs into my room and turns on the light. He just stood there and said “Oh my god.”

I looked up at him from my bed, where I previously was, still with the covers over my head. The look on his face was just…horrified. It scared me more that HE was scared. He never got scared, not ever. He told me to look as he pointed across my room. The smoke detector had fallen out of its place on the wall, flown across my bedroom, and knocked down a lamp that was on the opposite side of the room from where the smoke detector was. The lamp was broken and shattered. My parents thought that I had broken the lamp by accident and was just trying to cover up what I had done. I didn’t.

Story #4: A day after Story 3. I came home from school and my brother had left school with a friend, so no one was at home. I did my normal after school routine, a cola and some computer games. I was playing The Sims, as per usual when I heard that same creaking sound again. Then, before I could even think, I felt something grab my right shoulder and squeeze. It felt like a person really, just like a hand. But it was very hard and very fast. I whipped around, scared as hell. There was nothing there. There was no one there. I got up immediately, though I was scared to death, and searched my house. I didn’t find anything. I went outside and just waited for my mom to get home. I didn’t speak about that incident for several years. I didn’t even tell my brother. But when I did tell him, a few years later, he said that he had a similar experience but he said someone (or something) tapped his shoulder around the same time someone (or something) grabbed me. He also said no one was in the house at the time.

Story #5: This was the last occurrence (at that house anyway). This happened a day or two after Story 4. I was in my bedroom, asleep again. I woke up to someone tapping on my window. Tap, tap, tap. The tapping would stop for a second and then start back up again. Honestly, I was terrified. I didn’t move. But the tapping persisted. The tapping grew louder and I bolted up, ran to my parent’s room, and woke them up. “Someone is tapping on my window and won’t stop!!” My mom’s boyfriend got up and ran outside, but didn’t see anyone. I went back to bed and the tapping didn’t happen anymore.

The next morning, I tried to figure out what or who it was. I know what you’re thinking, tree branch, right? Well, there weren’t any trees, or anything for that matter, by my window. I asked several people if they came to window in the middle of the night and they all said no. I still assume maybe it was some random person, maybe even one of my friends in the neighborhood, but honestly…everything else that had happened made me wonder otherwise.

If anyone has any idea what could have happened in any of these stories, I would truly love to hear your ideas. I really don’t know what I believe. All I know is that I experienced these things and that my brother experienced some things as well in that house.

Thank you for reading, I know it was a long one.
