Late flight into MSP Thursday night- nice airport! Small compared to ATL and easy to navigate. Light rail to downtown, just $1.75.
Checked into Le Meridien, but couldn’t sleep, so we had to shut down the bar across the street from the hotel. Mackenzie’s Pub was just okay. Kinda dudebro.
Lunch at Lotus Vietnamese recommended by some law students we chatted with the night before. Yum! Cheap and delicious.
Spent an hour or so touring the Vikings practice field and gym. We’re not really sportsball fans, but it was super neat checking out the exercise equipment and facilities of a major league team.
Day drinking at Psycho Suzie’s! Very cool bar with delicious drinks. We bought two mugs to bring home with us.
Since the Who concert we were supposed to attend on Saturday was canceled, we bought tickets to see Lewis Black at the State Theater. Good show in a gorgeous venue, just a few blocks from our hotel.
Breakfast at Hen House- one of the best meals we had in Minneapolis. I would be a regular here if I lived or worked nearby.
Walked to the Sculpture Garden to see the iconic cherry/spoon- was not disappointed! Loring Park is lovely.
From there we walked over to HiFi Records to pick up a few records and chatted with the owner (?) Tom for a while. Nice fella! Before heading back to the hotel we swung by 7th Ave. Entry to see where my husband performed back in the 90s.
Dinner was Zelo downtown and I found it disappointing. No tiramisu for dessert and the lettuce in my salad was totally wilted. Boo.
Met with friends at 331 and mostly sat out back, yakking and drinking. Wanted to check out the band with the piece of luggage as a bass drum, but the DJ was playing sucky hiphop and we left. Walked to Nye’s and had a delicious Prime Rib Dip to soak up all the booze. Loved the decor and silly entertainment.
Sunday was sunny and 83 degrees. WTF, Minneapolis? We walked to the Mill City Museum and browsed a little before lunch at SpoonRiver. Again, it was delicious and I’d be a regular there.
Walked across the Stone Arch Bridge to the Weisman Museum because we’re suckers for crazy architecture. We browsed the collection and bought a refrigerator magnet.
It was a lovely visit and I really enjoyed your city. Thanks for the hospitality, city parks, easy public transport, and beautiful weather!
