Getting Conditioned Air Into Basement from Attic HomeImprovement

Hi, my 1000sq ft house which was built in 1952 has baseboard heating. The previous owners had central AC installed but they did it by putting the air mover in the attic, running all of the ducting in the attic and just putting registers in the ceiling of each room. There are no registers in the basement.

We have a dehumidifier in the basement for humidity control but that, plus two refrigerators and a washer/dryer means it gets pretty toasty down there in the summer. What would our options be for getting AC down there? I would really prefer not to have a portable unit. Is it as simple as running a few ducts inside the walls from the attic to the basement?
