(NYC) Slumlord says eviction court quicker than housing court. House needs A LOT of help. legaladvice

This one is twisted but the basics: Three bedroom apt, three roommates. One leaseholder of the three roommates residing

Leaseholder had refused to ensure roommates/apartment was provided a refrigerator, heating during the winter and some improvement on the massive ceiling water damage and leaking. We are on the 2nd floor with water damage seen on the ceiling and walls of the bathroom, kitchen, living room and one bedroom. Mold in the bathroom from leaking ceiling and missing bathtub tiles that can no longer be glued back onto the molded backing bit. No working light fixture in kitchen, foyer, stairway landing and zero working light fixture in any of the three bedrooms. No mailboxes (a slot for three apartments in a door that many times finds itself unlocked) nor garbage cans provided for the building.

Roommates filed numerous 311 complaints online anonymously and not. Inspector came Sept 17. No report or word back from our complaints.

Leaseholder hasn't paid rent for Aug and Sept and landlord has begun eviction process. First eviction notice, from Sept 20, was misfiled as July, Aug and Sept.

This afternoon Sept 26, landlord harassed and berated leaseholder. Has threatened to delay housing court case beyond eviction case- we would be out on our asses before we see any improvements to the apt or even smidge improvement on quality of life.

What the heck do we do? We planned on sending a check for Aug and Sept but were advised not to until the repairs in the home were made. If we pay rent due, would that buy our case some time to get repairs in the apartment and building?
