So, for a little background, my boyfriend (a black man) has been working retail for 4 months now in the rural south. He's a manager but ends up doing deliveries and repairs most days.
Well, he went to an older lady's house to repair her refrigerator, and it goes ok. He goes back to the store and gets a call. It's the older lady, saying "that ni**er broke my fridge". She proceeds insulting my boyfriend and the company. My boyfriend, amazingly, remains civil enough to just get her off the phone. But when he called me he seemed upset by it, stating he's never been called that word in his life. I was upset too and here's what I wish I could say to that lady

My boyfriend is probably more educated than you'll ever be. He's getting his masters degree in international business!

You really upset him. He doesn't upset easily but YOU did it by calling him something ignorant.

He's one of the greatest people I know, and he could have been rude to you, but that isn't in his nature. You better be glad about that.
