Kitchen: Does it make sense to partially open up the wall? HomeImprovement

Hello!

Thank you for the valuable feedback that you gave us earlier. We are thinking of ways to add more value, look, & functionality to our kitchen. To increase counter space near the cooking range, we are considering taking out the pantry as well as the cabinet next to it to partially open up the kitchen wall. It would be open up to where the refrigerator is. It's a load bearing wall and opening it up completely will be significantly more expensive. The partially opened wall will have an over-hanging countertop with a couple of bar stools. The last pic is a rough sketch of what it would end up looking like.

In the near future, we would also consider updating the countertops to quartz/granite and painting/replacing the cabinets. We would also be adding cabinets & countertops along the L-shaped wall where the breakfast table is increasing the total sq. ft. to about 75 sq. ft.

  1. Do you think the partially opened kitchen will end up looking dated and old school?
  2. Do you think it would be more appealing if we opened up the entire wall (& have 2 pillars on each side at 3x the cost)?

Please share your thoughts. Thank you once again!!! :)
