Strange roommate that likes to smell my poop offmychest

I just have to get this annoying/confusing rant about my roommate off my chest. My roommate is pretty good in most respects. We get along, not necessarily friends but we are friendly to each other. She doesn’t try to bother me or talk too much which is great. She seems to be perceptive if I just want to spend time alone, which I appreciate.

However.

For some reason, every time I take a shit and she’s in the apartment, she ALWAYS goes into the bathroom directly after. Doesn’t matter if it’s a small shit or a big shit. A long shit or a short shit. A red shit or blue shit. What’s worse, our bathroom has no fan. I’m just so confused. Why would you want to go into the warm stinky bathroom right after I take a dump? She also doesn’t use toilet paper, which baffles me.

Other things she does that I have to get off my chest - even though she is 31 (I am 20) she has way too much energy at 1am every night. Some how some way, she always manages to bump around right when everyone should be asleep. At first I thought it was in my head until she told me she does 50-60 burpees per day. It explained a lot.

The only other truly annoying things are that she plays loud thumping music all day, which isn’t a problem until I want to go to sleep and the music keeps playing into the night combined with her jumping around doing burpees. She also is constantly in the kitchen somehow. I have a microwave in my room which is the only way I cook (I’m a full time university student and I work 30hours/week so I don’t have time for anything more. Also the reasons why I need my sleep every night...)

She is somewhat clean, but often leaves peices of food on the floor or counter. There are roaches in the kitchen and recently she complained of a mouse in the kitchen. At first I was disgusted, but then I realized that the critters will stay where the food is, which is in the kitchen. None of my belongings are in the kitchen except for in the refrigerator which is air tight. The maintenance man told her not to leave food on the floor, but I don’t care. There are no bugs or mice in my room. So her fate is up to her with the bugs and mice. Her room is next to the kitchen and mine is on the other side of the apartment next to the bathroom, bug and mouse free.

TLDR: I like my roommate. She is responsible, sometimes makes me food and usually doesn’t bother me. I just wonder why she likes to smell my shit, leaves food laying around despite bugs and mice, and like to do 60 burpees at 1am to loud music.

I'm by all measures a great friend, but no one reciprocates offmychest

I have maybe 30 friends, 8 of whom I consider close, 3 of whom I was have said were best friends before this past year.

I often invite people over for homemade dinner – individually and in groups. I bring friends to the art museum and the botanic gardens as guests of my membership. I make plans to go out for coffee/tea/drinks/hikes/estate sale shopping/all manner of activities and get flaked on about 50% of the time.

I call folks on their birthdays, and if I'm going to see them will bring a small gift, like a pie or a plant. I often organize birthday gatherings for close friends.

When someone I know is going through a hard time, I bring them food or offer to walk their dog or something.

I help people move and have let folks crash on my couch for weeks at a time. (I once let a friend live with me for a month rent free at the end of a huge cross-country road trip and he made a giant facebook post tagging everyone he met in his travels, but didn't tag me or mention me at all. I didn't even really get a thank you, he just left while I was at work one day.)

I visit my friends who live in other cities and send cards or packages once a year or so, just to let them know they're loved from afar.

Etc, etc, etc.

After all that, I spend every birthday alone unless I specifically organize something. I don't get gifts and I can't really count on everyone showing up, let alone making a toast or something.

I've been invited over for dinner exactly ONE time in the last two years, and it was new friends I just met.

People don't call me, including my family members. I live in a popular destination town with a cheap airline but still don't get visitors.

I got engaged this year and couldn't think of anyone to be a bridesmaid because ALL THREE of the aforementioned best friends just evaporated from my life recently. When I gently, but clearly let them know that I noticed and was hurt, all I got back were defensive accusations.

So my husband and I decided to just elope, and we told all of our friends as a holiday party was wrapping up. There was a vague 'yay' from the group and then someone else started talking about how much fun she's had being married for the last year and then we all put our coats on and left.

WHAT IS THE DEAL.

I try to just roll with it and be who I am without setting any unrealistic expectations, and I do try to let people know when I need help with something or just need someone to be there. But I swear to god, they're not even listening when I say it. I offered to run errands with a friend because she doesn't have a car, and I tried to talk to her a little bit about how I feel, and she just said something like "Yeah, that's really hard" without realizing I was talking about her and the rest of our friend group.

I'm a naturally friendly and generous person, and I try to give people the space to just be who they are within friendships, but holy shit.

It's starting to make me bitter. My husband and I went out for lunch on my birthday this year and I couldn't help taking mental stock of all the calls and video chats and packages and homemade gifts I had put together for people.

I dog sit as a side gig and I get legitimately depressed when I see a refrigerator full of cards congratulating someone on their engagement, (three separate clients right now).

I adore my husband and he's so great to me in almost every way, but even he doesn't plan date nights, buy me flowers, etc. I bring him home treats almost every time I'm out, pour him a glass of wine in the shower, buy him new underwear just because.

People seem to like me and always have really nice things to say about me, but it's getting absurd how little I will see other people or have them in my life if I don't do a shit load of work.

I feel like I need to cry... offmychest

I'm 21, male (if that matters), and a junior in college and this last month has been the most miserable of my life. I was looking forward to the Christmas break as the last semester mentally and physically drained me and I hadn't seen my family in about a year, but about a week into the break my parents started fighting and decided to divorce (this is the second time they've decided this in the last couple months, FYI...they got back together after they decided for the first time).

Anyway, from there my newly homeless mom, brother, and I left the house, where my stepdad and step siblings are still staying, at about 9pm one night, after hours of grueling fighting. Queue the stress, I spent the whole next week worrying about where my brother and I would sleep, eat, and how I'd keep my 13 year old brother occupied and satisfied that his life wasn't 100% terrible. My mom stayed with a friend that didn't have room for all of us, and she (my mom) worked all day, every single day. I happened to have a friend call that night and want to talk, but he could tell something was wrong and offered to let us stay at his house for the night so a place to sleep was taken care of temporarily (I was worried about it daily, as I never knew whether or not my friend had plans and I didn't want to wreck them.)

Anyways, my mom found a place for us to stay, thankfully bringing an end to their (our?) little stint of homelessness, however, I've not had a single day of peace because my mom had a protective order put on her and my little brother keeping my stepdad away from them due to some incidental injuries both she and my stepdad sustained fighting (foot and hand caught in refrigerator, cuts from fighting over keys, etc.)

Now, instead of them working things out like adults, I have to mediate between them as it's illegal for them to be within 100 yds of eachother or even speak to one another and all they do is constantly nag and complain about eachother to me. Each trying to win me over to their side of the story even after I've told them I'll never pick a side between them. All the while, my stepdad is trying to portray the pinnacle of a righteous God-fearing Christian and my mom is completely blowing minor details out of proportion believing it to be part of a plot against her set in motion by my stepdad.

Today was supposed to be my day of peace, the one day where I could finally sit in my mom and brother's little house, on their tiny couch where I've been sleeping, and do nothing but enjoy my day. But of course it was another day full of drama about visitation. My stepbrother wanted to see my mom (he considers her his mom as I consider my stepdad my dad) which is legal, but it's illegal for my brother to see my stepdad. "How is that fair" My stepdad asks? It's not, but it's the law currently...but he doesn't understand so he complains to me like I can fix it. Because he wants me to, he wants me to convince my mom to drop the protective order which she'll never do because she feels like he was intentionally violent towards her, purposefully slammed her foot in the door, gouged her leg with keys, tried to headbutt her. Maybe he did, I didn't see it, she says it happened so I'm inclined to believe her. He says it didnt, so I'm inclined to believe him. I'll never convince either of them of anything so I'm not going to try.

It's Christmas and none of us know if it's legal to give presents with a protective order in force, nevertheless, I'm tasked with dealing out presents while ensuring no one goes to jail. Passing messages while ensuring they're worded so that it seems like it's my idea.

To top it off, my car has begun overheating, the girl I hoped to be with has disappeared from my life (not even because I've been complaining to her, I tried not to put his stuff on anyone that I wasn't bumming off of. I felt like they deserved to know.), and I'm currently unable to sleep on the most uncomfortable piece of furniture I've ever had the misfortune to lay on.

If you're still reading, props to you, thank you. I'm ending this because there's too much going on to put into words and I know everything above is probably poorly structured, hard to understand, and doesn't clearly convey the situation anyways. I feel like crying will make me feel 100% better and I just can't. I'm glad yall are here, but I wish I had more than Internet strangers to talk to :(

I'm so tired of life. And just need to vent. offmychest

Trying again. If you're gonna be an asshole and tell me to "change myself" after what I've been through, or "adjust your attitude" like the last poster who commented, you can leave and fuck you. Now. I'm coming here for the support I see in every other thread, not the same bull shit I get at home. You wouldn't tell the other guy who's hedgehog died to "adjust his attitude". Don't do that to me and invalidate me. That's abusive.

After writing and re-writing a few hundred times I am finally posting. Ugh. I need to vent. I am not even given any credit for all the good stuff I’ve done. I am screamed at, screamed at, screamed at. But told to “toughen up” or “stop being so sensitive”.

God, Mom, fighting fighting fighting I DIDN’T EVEN DO ANYTHING AND I’M THE ONE IN TROUBLE!! I am so desperate for money to start coming in but it is taking awhile. You know the situation. You’ve known about my finances for a long time now – I’ve told you. And provided spread sheets and everything at your request. Yet you are surprised now?

And also, you don’t take into account how long I had to go through my surgery recovery, resulting in my condition. You’re also all “THEY WON’T FUCKING HIRE YOU IF YOU WALK INTO THAT INTERVIEW WITH A CANE BECAUSE IT’S ‘INSTANT LIABILITY!!!!!’ YOU MIGHT AS WELL NOT GO BECAUSE IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN”.

My life is absolute shit and while some cool things are happening they do not overshadow everything else or the bad shit happening now. After the latest round of being screamed at by my mom (in which I have done nothing – I didn’t even do anything – in many ways I am better than she is – it’s not fair). I don’t do drugs, I don’t smoke, I don’t drink, I pay rent, I pay all my bills except this one time for extenuating circumstances, but I’m the one that’s screamed at.

This treatment isn’t fair.

I am still recovering from an injury that happened a year ago. Without revealing any identifying information: I had surgery. I had complications from the surgery which resulted in me being away from work for 8 months. These complications resulted in me having to do the rest of my recovery at work, while coming into work for 9 hours a day every day Monday – Friday. I am still recovering a year later from this surgery. Not only that:

I lost my job in August.

Had to start a consulting business to allow me to reinstate COBRA – I had to pay fucking $1200 to reinstate COBRA. Oh dear God heaven forbid I miss a month – I don’t use it, but I still have to pay four hundred and fifty fucking dollars to reinstate it because – the fuckers at the insurance company don’t allow for a month in between without use.

Why the hell do you have to report everything on unemployment? $900 every two weeks is not fair when I was making $1800 every two weeks. It's not enough to cover rent, bills, and all my other debt. It's not fair. If life were fair I would not have to report everything and at least have enough to cover things. Nothing is happening fast enough and things continue to get worse and worse. We are probably not going to get to have a Christmas this year.

I’m now being screamed at now for finances and credit card debt. Well excuse me mom, I helped you out a number of times with these credit cards, and it’s not frivolous shit – things like new hearing aids which were necessary for ME, dog surgery for our new dog, garage doors, refrigerators, washers.

New tires and air conditioning for my fucking car so I could get to and from work. Yes my credit cards have been run back up but it wasn’t all me. Part of it was you and everything was necessary!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why I have to give you all of my financial information when you’re under mountains of debt yourself is beyond me. Fucking hypocrite. No I can’t move out Reddit, so don’t ask.

As soon as I came back to work from disability, the lies started with a bad review. I provided proof to HR that many parts of the review were a lie and exaggerated and that management manufactured my mistakes. No response. When I was written up, I provided proof that the vast majority of the write up was fraudulent and a lie. No response. I’m basically fired for discriminatory reasons with no voice of my own.

As far as the management that lied about me: THEY called in sick every week for a year. They constantly made real mistakes on the job and didn’t follow policy/procedure. Yet when I have to recover from my injury/surgery at work, made only very minor mistakes due to being away from work for 8 months, and continue coming into work day after day for 9 hours a day, but I’m the one that’s fired? Fuckers.

Some good things are happening though:

I have a phone interview Monday (but it doesn’t solve the problem of my credit card bill today being late). I have an assignment starting with a major national brand. I am being given much more work and constantly being utilized at my new consulting position with a major national partner, which is in direct contradiction to what I was “criticized for” at my job.

But it’s not fair. I shouldn’t have to be doing this consulting stuff and being treated like I am at home. I deserve a full-time job. I deserve to have the treatment and justice I deserve. I don’t deserve to have you screaming at me.

My woman friend who I know from work has stopped texting me. I'm sure she's just tolerating and humoring me and would prefer that just I stop communicating entirely. She has a boyfriend anyway. I'm in love with her but I would never tell her while she's in a relationship. I'm not a douche. We're just friends and that's fine with me but I fantasize about her telling me she's in love with me. But I guess that's fine. It won't happen anyway.

Nothing ever works out for me. God, what is the whole damned point of this life? I wish it would stop for awhile. A big earthquake, anything. Just stop. For awhile.

I don't let friends visit me at home because I live in a jungle offmychest

I'm 17M, and I haven't had any friends over in three years after one of them made a comment about how my house is a jungle.

My mom, my 23 year old sister, her boyfriend, and their 4 year old son are the other residents, and none of them even pick up after themselves when it's something simple like taking a plate back to the kitchen.

My mom works at home and spends all day snacking, and she just leaves her wrappers and half eaten dishes all over the place. When she spills, she can't bend down to pick it up, so she gets the dog to eat it.

Almost every surface in the home is covered in clothes and random shit. Ironically, my nephew is the cleanest of those four people as he has to pick up his toys after he is done with them every time.

And let's not get started with the kitchen. It smells of rotten food, and the refrigerator is full of moldy leftovers mixed in with fresh food. There's always shit all over the counters attracting flies.

While my mom was on vacation, I scrubbed the place down and threw out the nasty shit. She didn't even notice. I talked to her and she got super offended and told me to move out. She says since I'm the only kid in the house, I'm responsible for all the chores and whatnot. If she doesn't have time to clean up her own messes, I don't have time to do it either.

It sucks to have chocolate in a place with hot, humid weather. offmychest

You keep the chocolate out, it melts and sticks to the wrapper.

You keep it in the refrigerator, it gets too hard to be eaten and once again, sticks to the wrapper.

My biggest regret offmychest

At my cousin's wedding, the food at the reception was steak. These steaks were smoked and grilled. It was easily the best food I have ever eaten. Anyways, since I was an usher, I helped clean up after the wedding. There were a decent amount of steaks left, so my uncle let me take 4 home. The wedding was a ways away from my home, so I stayed in a hotel. The next morning, after I'm about 2 hours away, I realize that I left the steaks in the refrigerator. My heart shattered. I called my parents to see if they were anywhere near the hotel, but they too were far away. This was 4 years ago and I still think about those steaks at least twice a week.

The doctor gave me a strange look offmychest

After my father passed away, I asked the doctor for a blood sample from my dad.

"Why do you want it? I've never heard of this before."

"I just need it," I implored, "because he's my dad." I looked into his eyes and maybe he saw something, because he agreed.

I have my father's blood sample, with his DNA intact, frozen in my refrigerator because I plan to clone him. I know this can be done because I've read all the research on it. People can be cloned from hair samples, skin samples, blood samples and even, clotted blood samples. And here it was, in my hands, my father's DNA.

My father was taken too early from me. My father wasn't famous, but he was a great man, and I plan to continue his legacy. People tell me that cloning him won't bring him back. At most, his clone will be his identical twin, who will be a different person from him, with different experiences. I know this, but I don't want to forget. I don't want to forget anything about my father. He deserved better than the way he died. Maybe with the birth of his clone, I can change things that I weren't able to when my father had been alive.

Dad, I love you so much. Please come back...

People deal with grief in many ways, and this is mine.

My step-brother committed suicide Tuesday. Trigger Warning - Detailed Emotions to get Off My Chest. offmychest

My 16 year old brother shot himself on Tuesday. My mom came home from work and found him. I was out of town when I got the call and rushed home. My husband, who is the best man I've ever known, rushed to be with my family until I could get there.

The bullet went through their refrigerator so we bought them a new one. It was just myself and my husband there when it was delivered, and the old one was hauled away. There was still some blood and stuff, just a small amount, left to clean up that was missed when the old refrigerator was moved. I cleaned it. I was numb when I did it, I'm pretty strong when it comes to that type of thing. But the next day, I wasn't ok about it anymore. I tried to watch a "horror" flick with friends yesterday after the memorial. (Probably stupid of me, but like I said, I'm usually pretty non-bothered by this type of thing.) Out of nowhere I had my very first panic attack. I didn't say anything to anyone. I just sat there. The horror flick wasn't even relevant to the details of the suicide or anything. Just something about it set me off.

My whole family is broken. My mom can't close her eyes to sleep without seeing what she walked into on Tuesday. My other little brother already suffers from depression and mental illness. I'm terrified for him. I'm going to try my best to make sure he's ok, and if he's not, that he gets help.

My step-brother's dad is broken. His biological sisters are broken.

There wasn't a note. There weren't any outward signs. We heard a rumor from other parents at his school that a girl said something along the lines of "You're worthless, and you'll never amount to anything" to him. I don't know if that's true, but I can see why he would be a target of bullying, even though he didn't deserve it. Kids can be so cruel.

He was on the autism spectrum, but high functioning.

He was hilarious. He was smart. He had potential. He was kind. He had us, and we loved him, so much.

He had friends, not many, but a handful of close ones.

I know people say this kind of thing after someone dies, but it was all true about him, he was sweet. He was a good person. He had his faults, but we all do. He didn't know how to be mean, he didn't know how to hurt someone.

He was thankful to my mother for every little thing, it was cute. He loved to read, and she bought him all the books he could ever want, he never could get over the fact that someone would do that for him.

He's only been in our lives for a few years, and I don't know much about his home life with his bio-mom before his dad and my mom got together, but what I've heard it was terrible. I'm sure he was hurting for more than one reason.

So many kids from his high school have been affected by this. There are a group of 5 girls in particular who are angry, determined, heartbroken, and ready to do something about this in his memory. They're starting a school club to let other students know that they're not alone and that people care about them. It's awe-inspiring, really. The paperwork has gone through the school board already and it's been approved.

We didn't really have a funeral, it was a memorial, a celebration of life. A way for anyone that wanted to to speak out about their feelings, if they wanted to, and share memories of my step-brother. We opened the floor to everyone. There were so many people there that there weren't enough chairs.

There were so many people that cared, I wish he could have seen it. But that's not how depression works.

I'm going to need help. I've dealt with a lot of loss, sudden loss, death due to health issues, death due to cancer where I've helped my mom through nursing her dying husband in home hospice, death due to old age. I can deal with death. I'm not afraid of it and I can get through grief.

What I feel right now isn't just grief. I don't know how to explain it. I don't know how I'm going to be able to explain what I feel to a stranger, a therapist.

I want to heal myself, I want to heal my family. I want to take away their pain. But I can't.

I don't know what to do.

That doesn't give you the right to make my life worse than it already is. You're almost forty years old and still leaving passive aggressive notes on the refrigerator because you can't say it to my face.

I'm twenty-seven years old, working a job that pays little more than minimum wage and struggling to make ends meet. How hard is it, instead of calling me a loser for not being able to pay all my bills on time, to just shut the fuck up and mind your own god damn business?

Raw love that are spoiled fruits now. offmychest

In a given time, at a given place, we were immensely in love with what we had brought out and saw. Unfortunately, the most sweet of fruits begin to become spoiled despite our greatest efforts. It didn't take long for that to occur since I let the refrigerator open and while I admit that I blame myself for the ruins of the relationship, I will also not allow you to try to belittle me.

I felt at peace with him, with you, but things took a turn in the most disastrous way that effected the premises of my willingness to trust other individuals. It initiated a sense of paranoia. It ignited a fire that become destructive when you decided that apparently everything between us didn't matter.

However, I will not ever fucking tolerate the fact that you dared say you're the "dominate position and can change my feelings". I don't have control over my sentiments but I will also acknowledge when something is absolutely preposterous.

Whatever happens to those fruits are for that of the flies.

Feeling low. Lowkey. offmychest

Final year at college. Wee. I've got a lot of good friends, I only have three classes right now and I'm doing well in all of them, I'm studying things I'm actually interested in, I have an apartment with my friends and we get fucked up a lot, we listen to a lot of awesome music, I'm part of a club, I see shows on weekends when I can, I have an easy and good paying job on campus.

But shit. My love life is dead. I really only see the same four friends consistently. One of my roommates drove another of them to leave and now we have a new roommate, he's cool but I just don't know him like that. I feel like no one even wants to look at me or start a conversation unless they have to. My acne is coming back. I'm gaining weight in my stomach, it's starting to balloon slowly. The dishwasher, refrigerator, and washing machine have all broke in the past week. Currently my room is wet as hell cuz of the washing machine. It broke an hour ago. I work the desk at my major's building and every Tuesday and Thursday I see my lab partner quickly duck right around the corner to go to her class and I don't see her again. She's probably just late to class but she doesn't even look at me and she knows I work there. It's not even a real slight but it still hurts. I've known her for four years now.

I don't talk to my family. I don't dislike them but I don't like them either, I'm totally indifferent.

My self-esteem is dismal. I crutch on booze and e-cigs and real cigs and weed and LSD. I know my problems but I can't get over them. That's probably the worst part.

I got a new job. A good job. Now I can start taking revenge. offmychest

I worked for a big box electronics retailer for years, in a small-ish town. They paid me not much above minimum wage. Not much at all. Barely above it, and my state is on par with the federal minimum of $7.25/hr. I was hired at full time, a phrase that nobody had heard in many years. I learned everything about the department, everything about the industry. Trained myself on selling techniques. Had the highest sales in the store. Achieved highest sales in the territory for a whole month once--a territory spanning seven or so states wide. I received no financial reward, or a raise. I attended vendor shows and sales conventions. I traveled across state lines to train people. I became a home audio expert for this store. I watched CES every year. Out of the average one to two hundred training modules that employees completed, I completed over thirteen hundred of them. I began a lifelong obsessive hobby. Working there, I spent more on headphones than most people put as a down payment on a new car. I was so well known that I was stopped, more than once, at a grocery store and asked for advice on televisions, completely off the clock, in different clothes, at a different business. My card is on half the refrigerators in this damn town. I never got a raise, I never got a promotion, I never got a thank you. And then they fired me, because of some insane "we heard you said this to another employee" lie. The other employee in question didn't know what was going on, and also quit over it. The store has never seen smaller profits.

What did I do about it? I finished University. Then I went to that store's competitor. I was hired yesterday. I will now be doing the exact same thing, but for a different store in town. With no sales metrics. No one will ever sit down with me, like a child, and ask, "Hey, your [metric] is a little low. What do you think you could be doing differently?" I will drive that store into the fucking ground. And the best part is: they're paying me more. A lot more. WAY more. And when I'm done, and that store has (metaphorically, guys) been burned to the ground, I will make a great store manager, which is a position that makes more than twice as much as a college professor, before store bonuses. And who knows, maybe go up into corporate from there.

Life in America is becoming simply god awful offmychest

I'm not talking about the smartphones and cars and refrigerators everyone uses to measure the quality of our lives.

I'm talking about the quality of our social, cultural, and personal lives.

  • We're punished in this country for having families and responsibilities, because our careers and employers make us suffer for it. If you take time off to have a kid and raise them, then you will almost never be able to make money ever again.

  • Acts of altruism are punished by employers -- taking time off to care for someone in need, your career and employment is fucked.

  • Our own personal lives are punished -- employers barely give us any vacation time or leave, and if we want to make a decent living, chances are we're going to have to spend significant personal time developing our careers, and working long hours

  • Employers rule our lives because we need to work to survive, and we have nearly no rights whatsoever as employees.

  • And if we don't work, we're at the mercy of the flimsiest safety net in the developed world that's designed to punish us, not help us, for not playing this game.

  • Private corporations have taken over nearly every resource that used to belong to the public. We've been pitted against each other with propaganda so we can't even have communities anymore.

  • We're getting paid less and less measured to the cost of living, making us even more dependent on our employers and private corporations.

  • We no longer have any say in our government, with voters having a noted 0% effect on legislation passed (yes, 0%, from that Princeton study).

  • And more! So much more.

The only solution is to acclimate to this limited life that's less than what we had before, and way less than what people have in every other developed country.

And we're told by these powers that be that it's all our fault! Even though we have 0% say in how anything is run here!

What the fuck is this? What kind of life is this to live?

I got denied alcohol the day I turned 21 offmychest

I turned 21 on July 1st of this year. I went up to this huge wine warehouse, with my now ex girlfriend, and went and got a giant bottle of pink Moscato for us to share. As I walked up to the counter I was confident and ready to pull out my credentials for this lovely Arabian man. He asked for my i.d of course because I look like a 7 year old when I shave, I showed him it and he gave me this weird look, like he was angry with me. He then proceeded to ask "you're 21 today?" Of course I answered with a big "YEP". He then shot me down extremely hard when he said "You have to be 21 years old for 24 hours before you can buy alcohol. I was shocked... and quite disappointed... then I realized how many people go out for their 21st birthday to get drunk. I argued with him and he then called another clerk over, when we presented the scenario to him he ALSO said he wasn't sure. So we went through a huge process of arguing and me trying to get my point across. They ended up calling their manager and he said "of course you can sell alcohol to him.. he's 21..".. after about 30 minutes of arguing over selling alcohol to a 21 year old, I finally got my wine. My ex and I went home and that bottle of wine sat in the refrigerator for 2 weeks, after me going to the bar multiple times of course. I came home from work one day from a short swing shift at the good ole Dave and Busters and took a fat nap. She came home from work and opened the bottle, AFTER 2 WEEKS, she couldn't get the cork out and ended up shoving the cork into the alcoholic liquid and ruined the whole bottle. Morals of the story: Don't argue with the clerk. Just go to another store and save yourself the trouble. And of course, don't date a psycho who says she likes wine and can't even open the fucking bottle.

Pet Peeve: I hate when people refuse to give a yes or no when making plans. offmychest

I am one of the principal planners of my social groups, arranging gaming nights, parties, meetups, outings, etc. But whenever I try to organize something over half of the invitees say maybe or don't respond. Like, give me a fucking definite yes or no. I promise you won't hurt my feelings.

(What does hurt my feelings is when they say*, "We'll go if we don't have anything better to do" or "We'll go if we feel like it." Ouch).

Now onto the main story. This past weekend I hosted a gaming night. Only two people RSVPed yes and, since I generally regard maybes and no responses as nos, I only had enough food and drinks for us three. But, to my surprise, I had five extra invitees show up. They quickly devoured all of the refreshments I had out, and descended upon my pantry and refrigerator like a host of locusts. I was more than a little miffed.

This seems like really commonplace behavior and I have no idea how to curb it. Do I refuse them if they show up without RSVPing yes? That feels kinda extreme, especially since I was the person to invite them/arrange the event. But I'm at the end of my fucking rope.

*This was after I hounded after them for a yes or no.

I have daddy issues. Here's why. offmychest

Not my father, or stepfather, but my mother's on-and-off boyfriend for about 10 years. I'm nearly 16 now, and he had a huge impact on me whilst growing up.

-He was emotionally manipulative, and we all wound up in therapy because of him

-He would give pointless ultimatums (for instance, on my fourth or fifth birthday he said "finish your food or you don't get any ice cream" he ate my ice cream right in front of me, and I didn't get any on my birthday. Another birthday, we went to a diner I liked, and I ordered macaroni and cheese. I love macaroni and cheese, so I ate a lot of it. He told me to stop eating the macaroni and cheese and finish the rest of my food or no dessert. He slid the plate away from me and I wanted to cry. He had me on the brink of tears alot. He was a complete jerk for no reason.

-One night I was sitting on his lap, and he asked me if I was "pro-ana" because I was skinny for my age. Another time, he pinched the fat on my stomach and told me I was "getting a gut, huh?" Damaging.

-He spoke rudely about my mother: He insisted she had no real friends and wasn't as competent as him. Constantly put her down and never let her speak.

-He was manipulative: Made a dramatic scene about "leaving us" whilst the family was eating dinner and forced me and my sister to watch before our mother told us to leave the room. (We had to leave the room so they could argue very often.)

-Argued with our mother on a daily basis and had a nasty, hurtful, argument in the middle of the living room the night before their wedding. My sister and I could hear everything he was saying because we were crying in a room right next to them. He was saying he didn't really love our mother and that he was only with her to be our "father figure". Yeah, a toxic one. Just downright smearing my mother. They ended up not getting married but stayed together a long time afterwards. Thank God my sister could drive; we left the house a lot. One night we came back to my mother sniffling and sweeping the floor because they'd just argued about the house not being clean. I rarely saw him lift a finger to clean up. I wanted to hurt him.

-Forced his religion on us: I can count off far too many times I spent my friday nights and Saturdays listening to him read the bible when I should've been enjoying my time out of school. It was inconveniencing. We participated in Passover, which is around the same time as Easter. I was a kid, so my school and daycare were giving out a lot of candy I couldn't eat because of its cornstarch or other ingredients.I didn't understand the meaning behind Passover and didn't care for being Hebrew anyway. It made no sense to me anyway. Long story short, I was punished for sneaking and eating a piece of chocolate. All of my candy was taken from me.

-Childish: Ignored my sister for over a year over some silly incident. It took a large toll on her and I know it left emotional scars. He would not speak to her, look at her, or even address her correctly. My mom let him, and I was in the middle of all of it.

-He would have strange men we didn't know in the house often (he was a freemason), and we were forced to interact with them. They left candies on our beds and treats in the refrigerator. It was a sweet, but creepy gesture on their behalfs. The men were some sort of "recruit" into his lodge, and had to go through some kind of initiation process. I was a young girl and going through an awkward stage of development. Sometimes it was annoying coming home and there's a bunch of grown men in your house and you couldn't be yourself. You'd wake up from a nap and there were grown men in your house. The house always smelled like cologne. It was annoying.

-Furniture: He took all of my mother's furniture out of the house and replaced it with his without consent. Another time he jammed all of his furniture into the house and made the living room unusable. The living room looked like an extreme hoarders house. That was a blinking red flag. The first week of school, I came home to a house with little to no furniture and I was embarrassed. He'd removed nearly everything that was "his", but some of it wasn't his. He took my mother's bed, and one of our tables. The couch. It really devastated me and my sister. I know my mother was hurt but she had to hide it. She slept on a cot for a long time before she could get another bed. At that time I felt helpless and tried to cut down on utilities to help her. I thought she couldn't afford to refurnish the house and that we were "poor". I never had friends over during these time periods because the house was embarrassing to me.

To this day, men and boys make me uncomfortable and I'm scared to be around them. I don't like being touched by boys I'm attracted to and I only trust females and feel like all males have bad intent. It just pisses me off because he lied to my mother constantly and she knew about it. He literally fucking IGNORED my sister for an entire year and my mom has never apologized for allowing him to do what he did to this family.

There was much more of it, but those are the things I can list off the top of my head. I'm thankful for this subreddit because it's really given me a chance to vent and see some other stories. Sorry for the bad grammar, I'm a kid.

Hospitalized last year for eating disorder, haven't worked since i went in.. last 30 days feel like my reality is collapsing... offmychest

At what point am i too old to cry "Uncle!" and get a chance to do it all over?
In the last month, I:
had a dear friend, die.
had my furnace, die.
had sump pump, die, flooding the basement.
had refrigerator, die.
had my GF hospitalized for suicidal thoughts,
had my transmission in my VW, die.
had my gas tank in my Pontiac get a rust hole in it and leak all the gas out.
had my engine in my Subaru, die.
had to go to the emergency room for emergency surgery after an animal bite - which they said could have killed me had i waited a few hours longer (i was stupid and waited a week to go to Dr - when i was in horrible pain).
had the house air conditioner, die.
had close friends break up.
had GF hospitalized with bleeding in her brain (the same girl who a week before was hospitalized for wanting to kill herself, so those two things maybe are related).
had roomie's mom have a stroke and break both shoulders in the resulting fall.
had my insurance refuse to pay for the therapist i have already seen 5 times.
All while looking for a new place to live because i'm getting rid of my house (i have to move in 9 days), and while i'm looking for a new job.. while helping another GF renovate her house and while watching American institutions destroyed and policy being changed to hurt many people i hold dear.
i need a break.. please.. this is too much.. several friends have helped me in ways, most without knowing how insane my situation has become, but it's seriously too much.. i need a hug and a decent, running daily driver and a job and for this ride to slow down for a little bit .. i can't save everyone if i can't keep my own head above the waterline..

i can't keep going like this.. at this point i'm pretty much praying for a quick death - i'm having reoccurring dreams of returning to the mental hospital so someone else can drive, but even in my dreams, insurance won't cover it.
