Color Suggestions HomeImprovement

I'm in the process of remodeling my kitchen; I'll be replacing floor tile, the countertops, and the cabinet fronts (leaving the bases). The existing cabinets are white - I'm thinking of leaving the cabinets white and painting the replacement cabinet doors white to match, to make it simple.

There is a 5' wall in the kitchen that separates the kitchen from the living room and is where the refrigerator is supposed to go - if today's refrigerators were as small as refrigerators from 1977! I'm going to be removing the cabinetry on that wall and making it a plank wall - and then putting the refrigerator and wine bar there.

I would love any tips, thoughts or suggestions on tile and countertop suggestions (colors, material, etc.). The flooring in the rest of the house is laminate wood floor (reddish-color). I hate the laminate wood -- it shows every footprint and speck of dirt/dust, and so don't want to continue it into the kitchen for sure. With white cabinets, do you go with a darker countertop, so as not to wash it out too much?
