Told you to take it home yesterday..... TalesFromRetail

Here's a story from Thanksgiving of about 09, give or take. We had a regular seasonal hire, we'll call her Greeter Gertie, because she was an old biddy that was essentially our greeter/sample hostess. Now Gertie was the kind to get on most everybody's nerves. She was one of those older women that's overly friendly, and you can tell it's fake. She also had a problem with putting her hands on people in the production area, which is a serious issue for safety reasons.

So early in the Thanksgiving, she picks an integral part of her meal (again, Food Business), and places it on reserve to thaw. My boss, knowing how chaotic things get....tells her...

Boss: Now Ms. Gertie, make sure you take that with you tonight so it doesn't get sold. You know these holiday people make mistakes!

Gertie: Well I just want it thaw but i'll take it with me!

The next night.....

Boss: Ms Gertie, take your [product] home so it doesn't accidentally get sold!

G: Oh well I have to clean out my refrigerator! I didn't have time last night after church!

B: Well make sure you take it tonight!

Now, here we are, 3 days later, night before Thanksgiving, late in the workday.

Gertie: 3Soul, wheres my [product]?

3Soul: Let me see Ms. Gertie....

G: It was right here on the rack....

3S: Yea it was right here I told the girls up front not to sell it but I don't see it....

Several minutes of useless searching later, Gertie returns to where I am...

G: Did you find it?

3S: No Ms. Gertie....it's not here....they must have sold it.

G: :in a low voice, filled with disbelief and anger: I am going...to sh*t...a brick....

I stand there for a moment before shrugging my shoulders...

3S: Well I told them it was yours, It had your name on it. I mean, Boss did say to take it with you. I can't watch the reserve shelf the whole time.

G: My Thanksgiving is ruined.....:walks away:

Next thing you know she is out back of the store, crying to Boss about how they sold her main course. Really hard to feel bad for you when you ignored more than one suggestion to go ahead and get your food.

TL;DR: Annoying holiday employee doesn't take reserved item home and it get's sold. Shows true colors and further annoys employees.
