In my laundry room, when I plug my iron into the bottom plug of a wall outlet, it gets no power, and my computer in the next room shuts off. When I unplug the iron, the computer comes back on. I can use the top plug with no problem, and no breakers are flipped.
What does this mean? The house is almost 50 years old, and the wiring is weird any way. For example, in the winter we use space heaters on occasion. It's a puzzle trying to remember what outlets are on the same breaker. There's one that I have tripped a couple times that has my refrigerator, the living room ceiling fan and a couple of outlets in two bedrooms all connected. It seriously spans the entire house. That's probably not up to code now, right?
I'm really confused by what's going on with the iron/computer thing though. Any insight would be appreciated!
