My BF asked me the other day why we have to refrigerate our unopened almond and soy milk....like Almond Breeze and Silk, that are the half gallon containers we buy in the refrigerated section at the store....as opposed to the 32oz aseptic containers of soy milk that I also buy. I, of course, authoritarianly informed him that, DUH, because of the difference in packaging, but umm....I didn't really know :-). After looking this up, I still don't know.....some sites say the refrigeration is just a marketing ploy to make the "milks" seem fresh and other sites say that the packaging is, indeed, different. Does anyone know for sure? We have a lot more pantry space than refrigerator space so it would be nice to be able to buy the bigger, more cost effective half gallons and store them at room temp.
