Domestic Bliss, 1-3. [fiction] recyclebin

Sunday, November 30th.

1 - Prologue

A grey cat was asleep on a grey carpet in a beam of sunlight. It was a hoary old fellow, its whiskers bent and frazzled from years of weary use. Its breathing was slow and nearly indiscernable, its eyes barely visible save for dimples in its lush, close-cropped fur.

A child's hand holding a small white stuffed kitten with a heart emblem on its hind leg crept up onto the cat, and batted a whisker with a tiny front stuffed paw. "Wake up, Kitty, it's time to play!"

The cat moved not a muscle, its paws motionless without a single flex of a claw. Its breathing remained steady and unchanged, its ears untwitched. He appeared to be very deep in the land of slumber.

Once again, the stuffed kitten's front paw strummed the cat's whiskers like a guitar. "You have to get up and play, Kitty, come on and wake up!" the child's voice said again.

All of a sudden, the cat's eyes opened, revealing green irises opening to round pupils. I am awake, a disembodied voice replied. Perhaps it is you who are still asleep.

With a gasp, the child's hand dropped the stuffed kitten and let it tumble to the floor.

2 - Jim

Jim carefully pulled into the dark driveway, nearly invisible in the rainy night. Everything was slick and the headlights reflected only murky outlines of over-exaggerated shadows. He took a deep huff-and-puff and nudged his old station wagon into its proper spot behind the closed garage door. Rage Against the Machine was blaring loudly on the radio, and he was loathe to turn it off. But it was not a good time to listen to music; Tommy hadn't returned his calls with regards to the weed or the scam that he had wanted to pull, so it was home to a glass of wine and a fall into bed.

But that was not to be. After taking off his shoes in the garage and letting himself into the back door, it was immediately apparent that things were wrong. The lights were out. No TV blaring, no kids yelling and screeching, no food on the stove, and quiet husky sobbing from the living room. What the fuck....

Jim flipped the lights on and saw a mess of Cheerios, banana peels and raisins on the floor. All the cupboards and the refrigerator was open, showing their empty insides. He rushed into the living room and saw Reina slumped onto the floor, her cell phone and ashtray in front of her. She hadn't tried to call him, that much he knew; he had idly checked his cell phone as he got out of his car just in case she had decided to message him with last-minute errands. Her face was wet with tears, her sobs as hopeless as a death in the family. But he knew her penchant for drama.

"What happened?" he asked, keeping his voice at a careful balance between stern and concerned.

"The kids ate all the fuckin' food, even after I've told them not to," she blubbered. "I have absolutely nothing for supper. Fuckin' Ivy even cooked all the frozen nuggets in the oven and ate 'em all."

A small twinge of pride tickled a tiny part of Jim's heart, proud that his petite little blonde could pack away so much meat and still retain her thin figure. Of course, she was only nine, but to Jim, she was already a beautiful young woman that would require his protection. But she was also young enough to learn that draining the people who took care of her was not going to work out for her in the future. As a father, it wasn't his job to be her friend, but an example.

"Okay, so I'll go to Home Depot and get some padlocks," Jim decided. "We'll be the only ones with the keys. I'll also get some more food and we'll lock it all up. If they want to eat, they'll have to buy lemons from us and sell lemonade on the street." He gestured to the kitchen. "We've got a fuckin' juicer, she can use that instead of the oven."

That nipped the emotional problem in the bud for Jim, because it elicted a laugh from Reina as she sniffled and wiped away her tears with the back of her wrist. "Yeah, okay, if that's what it takes," she croaked. Then, she nodded. "Fuck it, that's a great idea. I won't even have to yell at her. I want to wait and hear them complain in the morning when they wake up and see those locks so I could tell them what's what then."

They shared another chuckle and he helped her up, the crook of her elbow in his hand. Even though she was a portly lady, Reina still had the classic Romanesque beauty in her facial structures and her posture that never failed to strike Jim as an exquisite work of art. Big tits, big firm ass, firm belly, big firm personality. She may keep her nose upturned and purport the wisdom of an ancient soul, but if that's how she needed to cope with herself so she could be a decent mother and wife, then Jim was willing to put up with the occasional display of histrionics. She was still shorter than him by six inches, and her breath was warm in his neck when she came in for a reassuring hug. He kissed her forehead and caressed her back; there, there, everything will be all right, baby. "I'll cook for tonight and tomorrow when I get home. Why don't you go ahead and go to bed."

She nodded against him and took another deep breath, breathing in the scent of his sweat, his work, and the baked smell of cigarettes and weed in his beard. "Mmmmmhhh, that's a great idea. Come see me tonight, Daddy." She gave his nipple a light pinch through his shirt and they giggled as she backed away from him. "Now go, get the locks and let's make the kids cry."

Jim gave his best cheerful face as he walked out the door. He had been really looking forward to a relaxing evening at home, too, but such were the unpredictable fun challenges that came with being a father. Rage Against the Machine was no longer on, but Pearl Jam was dutifully belting out a bland cover. "Ooh, so obscure," murmured Jim as he squinted into the rearview mirror. The CD player didn't work, or otherwise he would have better music which would have lent him better focus to accomplish his driving mission. He simply switched the radio off and drove to the store in silence.

3 - Addison

Her eyes felt like crying when she woke up. Her nose felt like it had to sneeze, but not really. Everything was dark and murky. She made air come into her lungs and pushed it back out. She was awake and alive. Her name was Addison and she was four years old. Ivy was asleep next to her. It was night and she was in their room. Did Daddy come home yet?

She got out of bed and opened the door slowly. Still dark. Did Mommy finally go to bed? She was very mad at everyone for eating all the food. Addison was hungry and hoped that there was still cereal on the floor. She had been walking around earlier and picking up bites here and there while waiting for commercials to be over and Spongebob to come back on. But she had to be quiet, because Mommy might still be downstairs and awake. Mommy liked to sit on the couch in the dark sometimes. It scared her, but she knew that grown-ups had more bigger problems than kids.

Mommy and Daddy's room had the door closed. She took a chance at Mommy being in there and went downstairs, relieved to find the living room and kitchen empty. The door to the rec room downstairs was closed, so Mommy's not down there doing laundry. She glanced around and picked up a few raisins and Cheerios. If Ivy hadn't drank it all, Addison could have tried an experiment to see how milk tasted with Cheerios and raisins. And sugar, too, but Bailey ate the entire bowl with a spoon.

With her appetite somewhat sated, Addison went to the easy chair by the living room second-story window and stood upon it. If she looked right down, she could see the little driveway where Daddy parked his big car, but it was gone at the moment. Okay, so Daddy's not home yet.

In the meantime, she decided to just watch the traffic and wait. There were lots of cars on Vineland Avenue, going back and forth, but she was most interested in the people that walked on the sidewalks. Sometimes they had dogs, sometimes they pushed carts, but every time they were fascinating to watch, especially when two strangers encounter one another. Tonight, since it was raining, there were barely any people. But the few that she saw had umbrellas and walked fast. When two people walked towards one another, they almost always drift to one side to give the other more than plenty of space to pass. As if they were scared of being poisoned, or hit. She saw one guy wearing a bulky raincoat lumber without wavering past a girl carrying an umbrella who nearly went off the sidewalk and into a puddle in her mad dash to avoid being within six feet of him. It was funny to Addison, and not at all like the cartoons that her brothers and sister liked to watch or the movies that she saw with Mommy and Daddy. She liked those movies, because the grown-ups would often take their clothes off. She found it funny and would often take that as a cue to strip down to her own underwear and go around giving hugs and kisses to everyone. Mommy always said, "Addy, put your clothes back on!" but when it's just her and Daddy, he doesn't do anything but hug her tight against his lap. She was happy that Daddy let her do whatever she wanted.

She had been watching the headlights and streetlights reflected in the puddle streams running along the curb and thinking of the time that Daddy helped her catch a fish from the river when, as if on cue, she saw the familiar headlights come around the corner of the parking lot and pull in below the window. A tiny inhaled squeal rose in her throat as she clapped her wrists together in excitement. Daddy's home, Daddy's home!! And he was carrying a lot of bags!

As she had been trained via rigorous hands-on discipline from Mommy, Addy sat on the couch patiently as Daddy let himself in and closed the back door. Once it was closed, she could contain her excitement no longer and sprinted to him. "Daddy-addy-addy!" she sang with outstretched arms.

He had his mad smile on. "Addy-daddy-daddy, not now, baby, Ommy-mom-mom's maddy."

She giggled and stood her ground. "Awwww!" Her disappointed happy grunt, arms straight down in fists. Daddy was taking off his wet coat and kicking off his wet shoes. "What's in the bags?"

"Locks," he replied pointedly and sternly. "For the refrigerators and the cabinets." His eyes bored fire into hers. He knew what she did, and she knew that he knew. She looked down, saw the Cheerios and raisins, and sighed. "That's right," he continued. "Everyone's in trouble. No more snacks."

"I just— I just ate— I didn't," she stammered.

Daddy cut her off. "No bullshit. I'm not gonna belt you and Mommy won't belt you, but no more snacks in the daytime. But if you help Daddy-addy-addy put the locky-lockies on, I'll get us a pizza."

"Okay!" That was okay with her.

"But you have to help me eat it ALL, because we can't let Mommy, or Ivy, or Jimmy, or Bailey know we had a snack, okay?"

She nodded impatiently. "Okay! Um, Daddy?"

"Yes, baby?" He was using his phone to place an order for the pizza.

"Can we watch the zombie show tonight too?"

"Yeah, now go get Daddy his wine bottle."

Is natto supposed to be stored frozen? JapaneseFood

I bought a pack at an asian market, but noticed they store their natto in the refrigerator instead of the freezer. The natto comes in a Styrofoam box, and there's white dots that look like mold. I looked it up and it doesn't seem to be the amino acid crystals that some natto have.

I was 8 years old again this weekend raisedbynarcissists

I don't like talking about myself. Hopefully, though, by sharing this I can help at least one person. I just want people to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I was 8 years old again this weekend. I was back in my home town for Thanksgiving. I walked around after dinner, when my family was asleep. I noticed all the reasons I had left in the first place...the bullet-hole in the wall that my dad caused when mom threatened to leave him...holes in doors covered up by posters from the 80s...the closets in which I hid...the refrigerator that my pregnant mother would fill with groceries from the car while my dad watched TV on the couch...the couch he still forces me to move from when he comes in...needless to say I don't sleep well there.

I'm a 31 year old man with a wonderful wife, a career, and a house. I love myself and I don't fear, envy or try to control anything that lives. And yet when I'm there I'm that scared kid trembling in the closet again. It changes me. I become someone I don't like when I'm there.

I was cranky from the memories, bad sleep and 6 hours of driving to get there the day before. I complained to my mom about having to drive everyone during an outing. That was all it took. I should have known better...my anger was an affront to his power. Only he gets to be angry. Only he gets to control people. Only he gets to emotionally abuse my mother. My older brother he could tolerate, maybe, but me?

I knew his tantrum was coming...I felt the dizziness and pressure in my forehead. My hands got clammy and I got the usual frog in my throat. I didn't say a word...I've learned not to.

He made me drop him off at a random store. He said I had a shitty attitude. He said that if I kept it up then I would actually see what anger looked like. He told us to have a nice fucking life as he got out the car. It was a very mild outburst, but still, it took me there. It was as though all the gains in confidence and happiness I had made in 13 years had just been flushed away, and I'm still trying to forgive myself for it.

“Have a nice fucking life.”

Well? Why not?

My wife and I packed our things and left. It felt amazing. We were free. We both agreed that we were glad it happened because it meant us never having to go back. My only concern at this point is for my mother. Not only will it hurt her for me to never go back, but we actually had to leave her there with that man. And my grandmother can't be witnessing this kind of thing anymore either...she's in her late 80s, and here she is, driving half an hour to pick up her son from a random store because he had a tantrum over me being grumpy about driving.

I love them, but I have my priorities. I'll meet them at my brother's house, but I'm never going back there. Ever. I'm done, and it feels great.

I just want to make sure that this is purely an executive decision, for the well-being of my wife, myself, and our future children. I'm trying as hard as I can to take the emotion completely out of it. I'm trying not to enjoy the idea of seeing him burn the last bridge he had, of him adding one more item to his expanding list of regrets. I'm trying not to think about what I may say in the inevitable make-up email he sends every time this happens. I will force myself not to answer, hell, maybe not even read it. I don't want this to be another year-long war of emotional attrition. I want this to be me deciding to close the book.

I just want to do right by the people who actually matter. I'm opening doors for my wife. I'm breathing when I start to get angry. I'm letting insults slide. I'm smiling more. I'm calling old friends. I'm developing my relationship with my brother. I'm being the best version of myself in defiance of my father.

Is that a good reason though?

Meh. Who cares. He has taught me who I don't want to be, and my loved ones and I are better off for it.

Hang in there folks. It gets easier. Don't be afraid to be afraid. I know that I have it pretty easy...many of you are young and don't have any other options. But it doesn't stay this way forever. I physically left home years ago, but only recently have I closed the emotional door as well. Not even that part is easy...there is a lot of emotional baggage. But I've got a strong back.

Hang in there, I have faith in all of you.

Dream House v1.0.0 (criticism encouraged!) RandomThoughts

Goals:

  • Minimum amount of maintenance. No mowing grass, weeding flowerbeds, etc.

  • Extremely fault-tolerant and easy to repair.

This would be built inside of an industrial warehouse. The advantage of this is that there's a tremendous amount of space and that there's no HOA to enforce stupid regulations like grass height or imposing their idea of aesthetics. If there's any area with grass it would just be left to grow over with weeds. If that's not okay for some reason it would be dug up and filled with concrete.

TODO: Is it legal to live in an industrial area? Would the neighbors be too noisy or pollute-y?

The lighting of the warehouse would just be the normal overhead lights.

TODO: How often do these need to be changed? Might want to use LED bulbs instead.

Rooms would be divided by (plexiglass?) panels (spray?)painted to be opaque. Different rooms would have different colors to show their function, but none of them would be white since that stains. No ceiling, to allow light to enter from warehouse lights and skylights.

Rough idea for room colors:

  • 00-00-00 Black: Unspecified.

  • FF-00-00 Red: Kitchen.

  • 00-FF-00 Green: Storage.

  • 00-00-FF Blue: Appliances. I.E. laundry machine, dishwasher, etc.

  • FF-FF-00 Yellow: Kitchen with storage.

  • 00-FF-FF Cyan: Storage with appliances.

  • Etc.

Water would come in from rubber hoses that snaked around the outside of the plexiglass walls. Always near the bottom, see below for why.

Electricity would come in from cables that are carefully raised above the floor. All outlets would be near the ceiling. This is to protect it from the water hoses bursting.

Any appliance that uses water; E.G. sinks, washing machines, and showers; would be put into special waterproof rooms with drains on the floor. The doors would have windows to show if there was a leak since opening that door might cause problems.

The entrance to the house nearest the warehouse's door (or whichever door is nearest the parking lot if there are more than one) would open into the kitchen area, with the pantry and refrigerator nearby. This would be for unloading groceries.

All furniture would be made out of something waterproof, sturdy, and heat-resistant. Plastic is too meltable so probably metal. Things like chairs that need to be cushy would have black non-organic pads attached. Black doesn't stain and non-organic so it doesn't mold when wet. These pads would be detachable so they could be washed.

How it would handle different disasters:

Power outage: The industrial warehouse would have frosted plexiglass skylights, very securely fastened to the roof. If the outage happens at night, there would be flashlights in every room. Ideally they would have rechargeable batteries connected to an AC charger. Near these flashlights would be a circuit connected to a set of LEDs. This circuit would also have rechargeable batteries and would detect an outage and light up to show where the flashlights are.

TODO: A way to turn the skylights off or cover them somehow. Maybe no skylights and just use the flashlight method.

Bug infestation: Almost all food moved off-site to a separate storage area with its own refrigeration unit. Remaining food closely guarded. Wait until they die of starvation. All food moved off-site should be examined for insect eggs or live insects to prevent cross-contaminating storage area.

Bed bug infestation: Discard and optionally burn mattress. Leave immediately. Sleep in motel room (search it for even more bed bugs!) until they die of starvation. Upon return, thoroughly clean sheets with harsh chemicals.

Tornado, flood, hurricane, mudslide, earthquake: Don't live in an area where these happen.

Will my LSD degrade? LSD

I've always bought small amounts of LSD at a time; enough for 2-3 trips. This time I was thinking about buying a whole sheet of lower-potency LSD, because it's quality and it's for a good price. But storing it in a refrigerator isn't an option right now, and I'm afraid it'll degrade before I use it all... So is it a bad idea to buy that much?

Thank you to all of you who have blessed us, plus an update. Assistance

Thank you to those who were able to help with some canned foods and other household essentials here , we were in tears with the amount of generosity.

I am a true believer that you're never given more than you can handle in life, but we are certainly being put to the test with the last year being a very trying time.

With everything we've been through, our next "test" is that our refrigerator went out this morning. We have $25 to our name and we will be trying to sell what we can do buy a new fridge. The kids have even offered to try and sell their toys to help out.

I do know if we are able to get back on our feet and a little money saved up, we will be granting assistance to those in need so we can pay it forward to others. So, thank you all again so very very much.

Help with high noise floor amateurradio

Hi there! I'm new to Reddit, so please excuse me if I'm stepping on any toes. I joined only because of this very active and insightful community.

TL;DR: My club's station has had some 10m success by day, but has also seen punishing broadband S7-S9 noise floors. We can't move our QTH, and our QTH is the office of a tech company in San Francisco, which means we need to find ways to modify our equipment to help with the noise floor.

Due to a series of fortunate events, I am now a newly-minted Extra, and I'm also the president of a small club founded in my workplace...and my employer was kind enough to gift our club a Kenwood TS-590 transceiver to get started. I am still working out all the red tape with building management to install our first HF antenna on the roof of our office; until then, I bought a Buddipole which we can set up and take down as need be. Our office has a large concrete deck on the 4th story of the building which connects to one of our commons areas. When we want to operate HF, we set up the Buddipole on the deck (east-west, perpendicular to the line of the building so as to not radiate back into it), run the coax back into the building through a door, and set up the transceiver and its power supply on a table in the commons.

This worked great the first time we did an operating event. 10m sounded quite nice, we got some great QSOs and had our turns in pile-ups on special events stations. As the sun set, 10m closed out and we tried 40m, where we heard many, many stations but could not seem to be heard for some reason. We considered this a very successful day for our scrappy rig.

The second event was a complete disaster. Same arrangement as before, with the Buddipole outside the building on our deck, perpendicular to the building, and the transceiver inside. It was after sunset, and we tried every band 40m-15m, and we couldn't hear anything over the S7-S9 noise floor that followed us everywhere. The noise floor was so smooth and uniform that I didn't even notice I'd tuned so far off one of the bands that I started picking up a commercial shortwave broadcast!

My club's really looking to me for guidance on getting consistent results, and I don't know enough to really even start being effective. The setup I've described above is completely as-is. I haven't started adding chokes to the feedline or the DC power lines, for example. Because everything has to be done as a temporary setup, we don't know how to connect up a station ground (and, in fact, I read controversy about whether or not it helps). Power, Kenwood, Buddipole...that's it on the equipment.

To throw in some extra x-factors, it's worth noting that we're operating out of downtown San Francisco and that our office is a tech company. We really can't change those things; everyone at the club has their life centered around their workplace and most live near work, and we can't really change the fact that there are hundreds of computers, wireless networking equipment, fluorescent lights, motors for refrigerators, etc, etc, etc. I've read some articles on RFI control that often encourage using common mode chokes on the sources of interference, but this isn't a home environment. Supposedly, the outer layer of the building is an RF shield, and I had hoped that just getting the antenna outside would help, but it clearly wasn't enough.

So, given the limitations that I have, what can I do to try and drive down the noise floor more reliably? Like I said, we've had a successful day of 10m operating before, so I know it's possible for us to use the setup, but I don't really understand how or why this massive noise floor has hit us or what to do about it.

Looking for easy lunch meals that don't need to be heated up or kept exceptionally cool Paleo

Hi Everyone!

I am a graduate student who spends about 50 hours a week on campus. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a microwave or a refrigerator for meals and buying food nearby is pretty expensive. I pre-make salads but I am getting kind of sick of them! Snacks are easy enough to bring (blueberries or almonds usually) but they don't really fill me up and then I end up over eating when I get home.

So, what are your favorite go to meals and how can I make them work?

Thanks!

Tips on not going crazy living at home? Plus some of my own coping methods. offmychest

I'm very grateful to be living at home in this economic time, and objectively things aren't bad, but let's face it, living around the same people every day for 23 years in a row is slowly driving me crazy. To top it off, I'm normally a loner in the first place but I RARELY get time 100% alone. Plus, I'm pretty sure I have generalized anxiety which is now getting ramped up with this and career uncertainty. This only makes me more angry. My mom works at home and my dad never goes on business trips and is home fairly early. There's always someone lurking around or bugging me, and it gets even worse when my siblings come home from college and invite their friends over. This has been going on for years even though I show extreme annoyance. I never get time to "reset" you know?

I've tried hanging out in my room, which helps, but in the afternoon/evening it gets dark and depressing, and I have to come downstairs for food often anyways and dread going down there now because it gives people an opportunity to bug me again. Not to mention, I don't have a desk or anything so hunching over my laptop gets quite painful. Decking out my room isn't realistic financially, and it's pretty small. I could probably afford a few things, but when there's a refrigerator and place to sit downstairs, it just seems wasteful.

I only have 1 friend I hang out with, which helps with getting out of the house, but now THAT'S becoming annoying too, because he also lives at home and it's basically the same situation but in a different house. Having more friends wouldn't solve the problem either, because that doesn't provide alone time.

Sure I could get some crappy job and live in some sketchy apartment, but I'd rather go full force into my career, and living at home lets me focus on that. It looks like I'll be here for a while. I could maybe find some internship/entry level job relating to my career, but I'm not far along enough with my knowledge for that. Luckily, I have a laptop with tasks that keep me busy all day, so boredom/being unproductive isn't an issue.

Here's what I've been doing so far to try and help this: -go in my room during times of extreme annoyance and stock it with food -put earbuds in hoping people will not try to talk to me -go to my friend's house when everyone's gone (although that feels a bit weird even though they let me lol) -try to come home late when people are in bed -try to get up after my dad leaves for work -tell my siblings when I'll be gone/at home so they can invite friends while i'm gone (they work with me half the time at least) -act annoyed at my parent's quips to show i'm not amused (ineffective) -always keep an eye out for intern/job opportunities

So here's the question, what are some coping methods you guys use that don't require going out or spending much money? How do you create a "me time" environment at home, or just stay unbothered?

Thanks for listening.

How can I fridge when I cant even solar at night? energy

I see many posts here about saying "well you cant use PV because it cant power my fridge at night, therefore it's useless." not only is the conclusion untrue, but even the assumption that it cant keep your fridge (and all your mountain dew) cold.

"But /u/reallybloodylongname , how can this be so?"

A long time ago, before fridges were in every house, before even refrigeration came along, humans still needed somewhere to keep their dew cold. As far back as 400BC, the Persians had figured out that summer heat sucked, and having a chilled treat might be awesome. To this end, large stores of ice were collected from mountains and stored in huge insulated buildings. Unfortunately this cost a huge amount to do, so only royalty got any.

Ice harvesting finally peaked in the 1900s, with large scale icecutting operations (see some ice cutters, sans song from frozen here ) , combined with delivery systems, meant that household chilled stores were a reality.

In order to have cold food, Ice would be bought from an Iceman to put in your Icebox to keep your dew cool. If you find a really old person they might remember this.

In the 1930s, the convenience of modern refrigerators replaced this system, and the Icemen went on the dole.

"Cool story bro, what does this have to do with solar?"

Everything.

Your meat doesn't know how it is cooled, nor your milk, cheese or dew. As long as it is kept between 0- 4C, it doesn't give a damn.

Conveniently, water freezes at 0C, and dumps a huge amount of heat (known as the latent heat of fusion.) It dumps 334KJ for every KG, or 33fl oz of ice formed. When it melts, it sucks up that same huge amount of energy.

Say you have a huge fridge, in the shape of a cube, 1000 liters, or 264 gallons. how many gallons of dew, would you need to sacrifice out of your fridge and replace with ice, to keep the remainder cold for 18 hours, if it has walls of polystyrene foam 5cm (2 inches) thick, and the temperature outside is 50C (122F)?

6m2 * 50C difference*0.03/0.05m thick = 180watts

180watts*18 hours = 11664KJ,

11664kj/334 = 34.92KG ice.

"But /u/reallybloodylongname, I need icecream too!"

Never fear Redditor, frozen goodies can be cooled with phase change materials that change at lower temperatures.

I had a bad first time experience and I need advice. Please help! soylent

Hi. I wanna make it very clear that I WANT THIS TO WORK because I think Soylent is a wonderful idea overall, and I also am personally attracted to the prospect of having a nutritional drink provide a whole meal's worth of nutrition. Now that you know that I still have faith and I don't wanna turn my back just yet...

I have been waiting a good 4-5 months for my first order, and I haven't got it yet. However, a friend graciously gave me a bag to try. I was so excited as I opened the bag, and it smelled so good inside! "This is gonna be great!," I thought as I poured it into a pitcher.

After getting some help with mixing it via a blender, I let it sit inside the refrigerator for 2 hours as I wanted to get hungry. I was eager experience the feeling my friend described, when you feel full after drinking a liquid! It must have been so cool and comforting, knowing that you got such great nutrition. After some time, I felt hungry so I went into the 'fridge and took out the pitcher.

However, I wasn't sure if it was in the fridge long enough, so I put just 3 ice cubes inside and started drinking. My first sip was hard, and the soft bubbly texture was very hard to deal with (I historically have this problem with any kind of beverage) and was uncomfortable to swallow. I found myself needing to get a glass of water after a little more sips in order to tolerate it. I just felt like I wanted to gag (and I even had a very close call) because of the texture and taste. I still felt soft particles (maybe it wasn't blended long enough?) at times, and seeing stuff stick to the side of my glass didn't help either (textures bother me sometimes...).

I had also read that most people DON'T like it on their first try but begin to tolerate -- or even crave it -- later on. But right now as I type this just moments after finishing my first glass (which took at least half an hour with tiny tiny sips) I feel like I won't ever be able to drink it again. Indeed, the thought of it makes me nauseous!

So, finally, I ask for your help. I have been very excited about this for a long time and I want to happily drink knowing that I'm getting the stuff that my body needs, enjoying peace of mind instead of eating from a limited (and not NEARLY as healthy) food supply. I followed the instructions (except for shaking; I used a blender) closely. I'm not sure if putting the ice back in after refrigeration was a mistake, but by the time I finished it, the ice was melted and the drink was already a little warmer. I even took a video to capture my first moment of the stuff on camera, but it took too long and my iPhone stopped recording (lol :()...

Please help me. I want it to work.

[PI] You die and soon find yourself waking up in some sort of high tech pod, and suddenly remember that you are the first person to test the "life simulator" project. Your entire previous lifetime was a simulation, and lasted all in the span of 2 hours in real life. WritingPrompts

Decided to write a complete short story based off of this prompt I commented on a few days back.

Original Prompt

It's sort of long (around 5,400 words), so I've broken it into chapters in case folk want to read in chunks.

Enjoy!

2nd Breath

Module 1: A Glitch

Ben York was bouncing his knee up and down, wondering if he would have enough time to get up and go microwave a cup of noodles. He passed an anxious glance at the clock on his desk, it's electric green digits showing 2:32 PM; it had been almost two hours since Mr. Jacobs had entered the 2nd Breath pod.

Ben admired Jacobs, almost to the point of idolization, but as he looked away from his clock and back to the man laying down in the see-through pod with nodes attached to his temples, Ben felt what was pretty damn closed to fear. Mr. Jacobs was a devil of a man, always firm with any requests, and one of the most recent requests was for Ben to keep eyes on Jacobs at all times during his stint in the pod.

There was no telling what would happen when Jacobs emerged from the pod (if he did emerge). The man looked like he was laying in a coffin; hands resting on his chest, clasped together. If it weren't for the monitors flashing Jacob's vitals on the screens sitting to the side of the clock, Ben would have certainly thought that the multi-trillion dollar technology mogul had been dead. Boy, wouldn't that have been something to tell the journalists about.

"Fuck it," Ben said lightly. The growling in his stomach had escalated to a ravenous roar, and he was ready for some goddamn lunch. He stood away from the table, rubbing at his numb ass with sweaty palms. The break room was small and meager; Jacobs didn't believe in such things as "breaks". He was all business. But that was his business. Ben's business at the moment was deciding between chicken or beef flavored noodles.

He flipped a quarter that had been in his pocket, caught it, slammed it on the back of his palm, and then realized that he hadn't decided which side would represent what flavor. He flicked the quarter into the air again, this time settling on chicken for heads, because the last thing Jacobs had called him was a cockhead. He gave a small chuckle at that when he caught the quarter, then slammed it on the back of his hand.

"TRINA??"

Ben screamed, flinging his hands in the air, subsequently launching the quarter off somewhere on top of the refrigerator.

"WHERE THE FUCK IS TRINA?!"

Ben ran out of the break room, heart pounding in his ears and a sour taste in his mouth. The voice that had been yelling was almost on the verge of breaking. It sounded like whoever it was had lost their mind. It didn't sound like Mr. Jacobs at all.

And there, sitting on the edge of the pod, was Mr. Jacobs. His eyes were red, god how they were so fucking red. There was blood dripping from his nose down into his gums; his lips were pulled back in a snarl as his bloodshot eyes gazed around the room. They locked onto Ben. God how that man looked at Ben.

"Were you the cunt who fucking did it, huh? YOU AUTOMATED BASTARD!" Jacobs screamed. Ben was shocked to see how fast Jacobs moved across the room. So shocked that he didn't even move when Jacobs reached out with a hand and gripped him around the throat.

"YOU FUCKING BROKE IN?! IT WAS YOU?"

"No, ech ," Ben coughed, "I didn't do anything. Mr., Mr. Jacobs, you were in a simulation, it was all fake, it was all fake."

Jacobs squeezed harder with a hand that felt like it had been resting in a pail of ice for the past two hours.

"Oh I know they were fake, you son of a bitch, I know they were all fake, but not Trina! She was the only real one! And you fucking killed her, didn't you, you fucking A.I.! You artificial piece of shit, I'll fucking rip out your goddamn throat!"

Ben felt Jacobs squeeze harder, and finally his instincts kicked in. He brought up his knee into Jacobs' crotch as hard as he could. As kneecap connected to groin, Ben could feel the erection that Jacobs had been sporting snap. Immediately, the crazed man released Ben's throat, then crumpled to the floor, grasping his mangled dick.

The confrontation was probably over by then, but Ben made sure with another kick to the back of Jacobs' head. The man who he had once called boss stopped thrashing on the floor. He was back asleep, just as he had been before Ben had left the room with thoughts of noodles.

/************************************************************/

"How're you feeling today?" Ben asked.

"You can take these damn straps off, boy," Jacobs responded.

It had been three weeks since Mr. Jacobs emerged from the pod a broken man. He was now admitted to a special hospital room that he had personally rented out before entering the pod. It was a safety precaution that he made only after Ben had constantly prodded him to do so. It's a fucking waste of money, but if it'll shut your goddamn mouth, then so be it, Jacobs had said to Ben.

Waste of money it hadn't been. Thank the lord in the sky that Jacobs had finally caved.

"No, the straps stay on. I told you before you went under that this was well worth the expenditure," Ben said, waving a hand to the surrounding hospital room. "Do you remember what you did to me after you left the pod?"

"Of course I do, you little shit. I had just woken up from that life, I was disoriented. We talked about this. We talked about the possible aftereffects of living another life in the 2nd Breath pod. Why the fuck didn't you have the tranquilizer gun ready? And did you really have to break my goddamn dick? I can't fucking take a piss without seeing blood."

Ben shifted in his seat, the clipboard in his hands almost slipping out of his grip due to now sweaty palms.

"And where the fuck were you? You weren't sitting at your desk."

"I, was, uh," Ben stumbled, "I was getting food from the break room."

"Goddammit Ben," Jacobs chuckled. "It's a good thing your scrawny ass got hungry. If you had been sitting at your desk, I probably would've bashed your head in with one of those damned monitors. Speaking of which, how were they throughout?"

"Your vitals? They were close to flat the whole time. Heart rate stuck around 60 bpm -

"Bpm?"

"Beats per minute, your heart was beating 60 times a minute. There were several moments were it would spike up to 67, but that was as high as it got. It got no lower, well, other than 0, but that was when you ripped off the nodes, I'm guessing."

"Good," Jacobs said quietly.

"Mr. Jacobs, who was Trina, and why did you try to kill me?"

Jacobs rubbed at the hospital bracelet on his wrist, several times putting a finger under it as if he were going to pop it off, but he always ended leaving it be. He finally looked to Ben, his eyes no longer bloodshot like they had been.

"When I was about nineteen, I met Trina at the University of Texas. She was attending one of the lower level math classes I was taking, I think it was college algebra, I don't know, I can't remember. Fuck, that was fifty years ago," Jacobs said.

"No it wasn't," Ben interrupted, "your whole session didn't even last the full two hours-

"You shut the fuck up Ben, I know the specifics."

Ben swallowed down sticky saliva and promptly shut-ted the fuck up.

"I know it was all fake, and in there, I knew it was fake. After meeting Trina, I knew all of it was fucking fake. I started realizing how fake the peoples' personalities were. I started realizing that they felt pre-programmed. I even began to doubt if the professors knew what they were talking about."

Ben wanted to say that all the professors were programmed to be as accurate as modern day college professors. Ben had oversaw a team of programmers who entered all the information, who had programmed the A.I.'s of the avatars. They were all supposed to be as real as everyday real people. Jacobs shouldn't have been able to tell the difference.

But Ben kept his mouth shut, and let Jacobs continue.

"I told Trina, I told her that they all weren't real. At first she thought I was crazy. It had put a bit of a bump in our relationship, but over time, she began to believe me when I pointed out when the professors would sometimes stutter, or when other students would bump into things, or would walk into wrong classes."

Glitches, or maybe the programmers gave certain avatars quirks, Ben thought.

"She believed me, and I knew she wasn't a fake like all of them. She was as real as I was. I knew she was real, because the love we had, the love we made, that shit was fucking real. God, the nights I spent holding her in my arms, feeling her heart beat in tandem with my own, that's how I fuckin' knew she was real."

Ben finally spoke, "Mr. Jacobs, you were the only one in the simulation. The next step is to make it fully functional with more than one person, we're hoping millions, but all of those people were A.I.'s, including Trina."

"SHE WASN'T A FUCKING A.I., SHE WAS MY FUCKING WIFE!" Jacobs yelled, struggling against the restraints that had kept him strapped to the bed. "And they took her away from me, the bastards took her away! She was fucking screaming for me, screaming for me to help her, goddamn it those fuckers in black held me down as they dragged her away!"

The monitor that Jacobs had been connected to started beeping rapidly, and a nurse dressed in white entered the room.

"Mr. Jacobs, you need to calm down," the nurse said.

"Fuck you you goddamn cunt! You're not real, none of you are real, where the fuck is Trina?" He yelled, continuing to thrash against the straps.

"I think you should leave," the nurse said to Ben as she began digging through drawers of a nearby cabinet, pulling a syringe from one and a small bottle from another. "Wait about another week, and come back again if you can. He needs time to get reacquainted with reality," she spoke softly.

Ben didn't need another reason to get out of the room with the screaming man.

God, how that man screamed as Ben walked down the hallway. Jacobs sounded just as he did whenever he first emerged from the pod.

"YOU'RE ALL FUCKING FAKE. WHERE IS TRINA?!"

Ben continued to hear Jacobs' screams as he walked all the way down the hall.

Later that night, Ben would have trouble sleeping. His dreams would often start out normal, but then he would see those eyes, those goddamn red eyes staring into the pit of his soul, and he would hear that scream that sounded on the verge of breaking, "where is Trina?"

It was an early build of 2nd Breath. All of the avatars were pre-programmed, static, unchanging. The next thing in the morning, Ben would pay a visit to the avatar division, and he would see what he could dig up on the avatar that Jacobs had interacted with. This Trina.

The only "real" one.

Module 2: Null

"You did what to his dick?" Jerry spurted from behind his coffee mug, nearly spilling hot chocolate all over his workspace.

"I'm pretty sure I broke it," Ben said, doing his best not to break into a fit of laughter.

"Jesus Christ on the cross, you have no idea how much we have all wanted to do that to that man." Ben shifted back in his rolling chair, a small sliver of a gut-in-the-making peeking out from under his t-shirt. Fifteen years ago, Jerry had been the track star and Ben had been the water boy. In a weird way, the tables had turned, and now Ben was the second in command (probably the first now that the chairman had emerged from the pod a raving lunatic). "How is he?" Jerry asked, a serious tone creeping into his voice. He sat his mug (decorated with #1 Mom) on the table next to his laptop, uncaring of the harms a liquid could do to that kind of hardware.

"Well, he did try to kill me after emerging from the pod, and he probably would've tried again if he wasn't tied down to the hospital bed."

Jerry only nodded, urging Ben to continue.

"He was screaming about an avatar named Trina, I-

Before Ben could finished, Jerry was already whirled around in his chair, hacking away at his laptop with the dexterity that probably was the last remnants of his track-day athleticism.

"They're all pre-set," Jerry said.

"The avatars?"

"Right. In the build that Jacobs was in, there was, uhh, probably only 100,000 avies in there with him. On release day, if there is a release day still, the avies will be dynamic, created on the fly. We still got guys working on that. They're going to take the 100k avies and make an algorithm that will create more avies from their traits, mixing and matching personalities and other quirks."

"Do you know who made Trina?"

Jerry didn't answer. Instead he continued typing away at his laptop. Finally he slammed a pinky on the ENTER key, then scooted to the side, hand pointing to the screen as if saying here you go master.

Ben stepped forward and looked at the monitor. Displayed there was a picture of a woman. She had dark shoulder-length hair, high cheekbones, a small pursed set of lips, and light brown eyes. "That's Trina?"

"That's the one," Jerry said. He rolled back in front of his laptop and starting banging away at the keyboard again. "Here's her details, created with the last bunch of avies, introduced to Jacobs' life around his college years-

"You can tell when was the first time they interacted?" Ben interrupted.

Jerry spun around in the chair, a smile stretching wide on his bearded face, "Buddy, I can tell you how many times they fucked if you asked me."

"I don't really want to know-

"Three thousand five hundred sixty eight times."

"Goddammit Jerry."

"I swear to Jesus, man," Jerry said between laughs, "they screwed sometimes up to five times a day."

"I really don't need to know that about our boss Jerry."

Jerry raised his shoulders and giggled like a schoolgirl.

"I really just need to know who made her, that way I can go have a talk with them."

"Right," Jerry said, once again spinning around in his chair. After a few more clicks and clacks on what was probably a mechanical keyboard, Jerry's shoulders slumped. "Huh."

"What is it?" Ben asked.

"It says null."

"Null?"

"Yeah, null." Jerry slid to the side again to allow Ben to look down at his laptop.

"And what does null mean?"

"There's just no data to say who made her. It's blank."

Ben sighed, "What in the fuck."

"I dunno man," Jerry said, sighing as well as he placed his hands on top of his head. "That shouldn't even be possible. Avies shouldn't be able to run without all the right qualifications, one of them being an owner."

"Are there any other avatars like her? Any others without an owner?"

"I can do a quick query," Jerry said.

Ben's thoughts began to race as Jerry searched through the thousands of avatars. He specifically remembered being a part of the security meeting involving avatar qualifications. He specifically remembered OWNER being at the top of the list.

"No, she's the only one with a Null owner."

"The fuck does that mean? How did she get in there like that?"

"There had to have been some sort of error. There's no way she could've gotten in there like that. Something must've happened."

"Can you figure it out?" Ben asked.

Jerry swiveled back to his computer, fingers flying across the keyboard even more rapidly this time.

"What do you got, tell me Jerry."

He slammed the ENTER key again. "Right here," he said pointing his finger at the screen, "right here is where things went to shit."

Ben looked at the screen and only saw a series of green-text messages. Lines of numbers that he assumed were codes as well as other error messages.

"The bitch went a little nutty right here," Jerry said, pointing to a message that said errno.EIO. "I've never seen anything quite like it, but there's a chance it fucked with her qualifications."

"And she's still in there like that?"

Jerry nodded.

"Is there, like, I don't know, some way to refresh her qualifications? That way we can know who put her in there?"

Jerry grabbed his mug and took a long sip from it. He sat it down and sucked on his upper lip, nodding his head to some quiet beat that accompanied the gears turning in his head. He turned back to his laptop and prodded the keyboard some more. Finally, he stopped.

"We can jump start her. That should refresh her info."

"And how do we do that?" Ben asked, his stomach suddenly starting to feel like stone.

Module 3: The Jump Start

Within the next hour, they were back in the room that housed the first and only 2nd Breath pod. First and only so far. Ben's stomach was still in knots after hearing what Jerry meant by doing a "jump start".

"I'm going to load your conscious into the placeholder Jacobs left behind," Jerry had said on the walk over to the pod housing. "I'll drop you in a few minutes before Trina had her error. If my thinking is right, if you get past the moment she had the error without her bugging out, I can pull you out and her stats should be refreshed. Good as new."

"I'm going to be in Jacobs' spot?"

"Yes, to every avie in 2nd Breath, you will look like Jacobs. We only had time to create one player placeholder, and it is one of Jacobs, since, you know, he wanted to be the first person to test it."

"How long am I going to be in there?" Ben asked.

"Like I said, a few minutes your time, just a moment in my time," Jerry said, stepping towards the pod. There was a plug-in at the head of the pod resembling that of a USB port. Jerry pulled a small device out of his pocket, resembling a phone. He plugged it into the port. "For me, I'll just load you into 2nd Breath, and then I'll immediately pull you out."

"What are you doing now?"

"Loading the settings. I don't want to drop you in there too soon. I also don't want to drop you in there without all your previous memories."

"What do you mean?"

"Jesus Christ, Ben. Do you not know anything about 2nd Breath?"

"Shut the hell up Jerry, it's not my job to code the damn thing," Ben said, lightly punching Jerry on the shoulder.

"Right, whatever. When this bitch finally goes public, people who play will be first loaded in as infants. We take their current memories and load them into an external storage, that way they enter the game completely fresh. I'm changing that parameter so that you won't have your memories stored to the side. That way you won't jump into Jacobs' 40 year old avatar a babbling baby."

"Putting peoples' memories off to the side, that sounds kind of dangerous, how the hell we get that approved?" Ben asked.

"There's multiple fail overs," Jerry said, removing his device then walking back over to the computer monitors where Ben had originally been seated the night Jacobs' lost his mind. "Not only are memories saved to an external storage device right there in the pod, they're also saved offsite in our own databases. And really, as of right now, they aren't fully erased from a players' mind. They're just sort of "locked", so if worst comes to worst, we can just unlock them," he punctuated with a key press on the laptop. The pod door swung open like the lid of a coffin, accompanied by a hiss. "Your bed awaits, sleeping beauty."

"Fuck you, Jerry," Ben said, removing his shoes and climbing into the pod. The last thing he would remember from this lifetime is how cold the pod cushion felt against his ass.

Final Module: Trina

When he opened his eyes, Ben instantly knew that he wasn't in the real world anymore. Jerry had succeeded in allowing him to keep his memories. The hairs on his arms immediately stood on end as his heart began to pound at the excitement and nervousness of finally being inside 2nd Breath.

The room he was in was dark and it surprisingly took him a few moments to realize that he was laying down in bed, and that it was nighttime. He looked to his left and saw that there stood a nightstand with a digital clock resting on it, oddly similar to the clock that was sitting on the desk that Jerry would currently be sitting at out in the real world. The only difference with this clock was that it also showed the current date and month.

The green text glowed 2:32AM 11/29

Ben looked to his right and realized that there was someone in bed with him. It had to have been Trina. She was laying on her side, facing him, with her left arm curled under her pillow and the other hand resting on his stomach. As his eyes adjusted to the dark lighting, her facial features finally started to become more visible.

She resembled the photo that Jerry had shown him earlier in the day (back in the real world), but he could tell that that old photo must have been taken when she was in college. The Trina laying here in bed with him was older. Age hadn't done much to decrement her beauty, if anything else, it made her appear more attractive. He noticed that there were strands of gray in her hair (which was still the short cut she was sporting in the college photo). Ben wondered how old the body he was in was and even thought about getting up to look at himself in the mirror, but decided against moving.

All he wanted to do was lay still for the few moments it would take before Jerry would pull him out of 2nd Breath.

a few minutes your time, just a moment in my time

Any moment now.

Ben let out a slow sigh, then his breath caught when he felt Trina's hand twitch on his stomach.

/**********************************************************************/

"What the fuck?" Jerry exhaled, eyes squinting at the monitor. He punched in the small command,

2ndBrthAdmin -> EJCT

only to be dumfounded when he saw the response,

COMMAND NOT AUTHORIZED

"I'm the goddamn administrator!" Jerry yelled, "I am authorized to do whatever the fuck I want!"

He punched in the command again, only to be told the same answer.

COMMAND NOT AUTHORIZED

"Oh fuck," Jerry wheezed, running a hand through his hair, smearing the beads of sweat that had been poking out on his forehead all over his scalp. He looked away from the computer monitor and towards Ben, who had been laying in the pod. The vitals monitor sitting to the side of the laptop beeped.

It had raised from 60bpm to 64bpm, and was beginning to steadily climb.

/*********************************************************************/

Her hand twitched, then settled back down onto his stomach. Her breathing was coming in quick gasps.

Ben just laid there, wondering when in the fuck Jerry was going to pull him out of the simulation.

Finally, Trina's breathing settled, and her hand stopped moving.

Ben let out the breath he had been holding, then stopped again when he felt Trina's hand slowly begin to slide down his stomach.

Oh what the fuck.

Her hand slid under his waistband, then gently grabbed a hold of his babymakers.

He looked over at her, and saw that her eyes were open, and she was looking right back at him.

"Hey," she whispered.

"Hey," he carefully said.

Her brow furled for a moment.

"Chris?"

Ben almost recoiled at the name, but then realized it was Jacobs' first name. He had been so used to calling him "Mr. Jacobs" that he almost didn't realize Chris was his actual name. "Yeah?" he responded.

Her grip suddenly tightened on his jewels, sucking out all the air from his lungs like a vacuum. "You're not Chris!" She hissed.

Ben grunted and tried to punch at Trina's face, only managing to slap her across the cheek. He reached again to maybe try and gouge out an eye, anything to make her relinquish her grip on his testicles. He yelped in agony when his fingers found her mouth instead of her eyes.

Trina bit down hard.

He felt blood run down his arm, and for that brief moment, he forgot that his nuts were being crushed.

The left testicle burst, followed by the right, and Ben blacked out with his hand still being munched on by the woman Jacobs' had fallen in love with.

/********************************************************************/

Pain was still radiating in his crotch by the time he came to. Ben tried to sit up but found that his hands and feet had been handcuffed to the bedposts. He jerked around to see if he could break free, but immediately stopped when he felt the metal cuffs begin to cut into his wrists. He looked up to the dull pain in his right hand and saw that he was missing an index and middle finger. Blood was still seeping out of the stubs and steadily dripping down his arm and into his armpit.

"FUCK!" he yelled. "What the fuck?!"

He thrashed around some more, then screamed out in pain when he felt sharp stabbings of pain etch out from his crotch and up into his stomach. Whatever food Jacobs' had eaten during his time in 2nd Breath began to swirl around in Ben's stomach, then finally decided to force it's way up to his throat. He spewed an unidentifiable concoction of vomit down and onto his chest. He tried to turn on his side and vomit onto the bed, but it was no use. The cuffs kept him from turning.

The door to the bedroom slammed open, and standing there in the doorway was Trina, wearing an almost see-through blue nightgown. In her hands was an clothes iron. She walked over to the side of the bed opposite of the nightstand and plugged in the iron. There, she poked the stubs where Ben's missing fingers had been with her own finger, inciting a cry from Ben.

She flicked the blood on her finger at Ben, nailing him square in the mouth with it.

"I don't want you bleeding out," Trina said, licking the same bloodied finger, and then pressing it into the iron. It sizzled and she pulled her finger away, almost giggling to herself, "Ow, I didn't think it would heat up that quickly. Jacobs did a good job buying this for me."

"The FUCK do you want?" Ben cried out.

"I want to make sure you don't bleed out before I figure out how you got inside my husband's body," Trina said, grabbing the iron in one hand, and Ben's mangled hand in the other. She pressed the hot iron to his stubs.

The pain was excruciating. He thrashed in the bed despite the cuffs cutting in to his wrists and the pain in his crotch. He slammed his head up and down in the pillows, then swung his head to the left, looking at the clock on the end table. It read 5:56AM 11/29.

It had been a few hours in this world, which meant seconds or minutes on the outside.

Ben screamed in agony as he realized that Jerry was having trouble getting him out of the pod. The smell of blood filled the small bedroom, mingling with the scent of fresh vomit that was now steadily soaking the sheets that Ben had been writhing in.

/***********************************************************************/

3:49PM 12/23

Trina had made a habit of jabbing Ben's legs with a small knife and then going over the wound with the iron. She admitted to not having a nursing degree, but figured cauterizing the wound would be enough to keep Ben alive. She started low, towards his ankles, then had worked her way up his calves and towards his thighs as the days dragged on by.

Earlier in the day she had joked about how his sack was going to be next, poking the mangled piece of flesh with her fingers.

7:23PM 3/09

It was Trina's birthday today, or so she said. She celebrated the day by switching out Ben's normal feeding of overcooked ground beef and milk to birthday cake. An entire birthday cake. She force fed him fistfuls at a time of the overly sweetened cake until he vomited, and then continued force feeding him. The fourth time he vomited, he had nearly choked, and there for a brief moment, he saw her scramble to find the key to his handcuffs so she could turn him over.

In one last fit of desperation after not being able to find the keys, Trina climbed onto the bed and stomped on his stomach, forcing the half-chewed cake up out of his airway and out into the open air.

After that episode, Trina didn't feed Ben for three days straight out of fear of him choking again.

/**********************************************************************/

3:31AM 3/13

It was after those three days that Ben realized the quickest way he could get out of the pod was to kill himself.

He laid there in the mess of all the muck that had gathered over the months: blood, vomit, food, piss, shit. He didn't smell it anymore. He had grown used to it. His mind jumped around, trying to figure out how he could manage to get Trina to kill him. His first thought was to intentionally inhale his food the next time she fed him, and hopefully choke before she could do anything about it.

But then he realized that she would probably just stomp on his stomach again. Maybe he would get lucky and she would rupture something?

He didn't want to take that chance.

He heard something slam around outside of the bedroom. It was Trina, probably doing some sort of redecorating. She had talked about that a lot during the previous days' moments with her as she snapped his fingers back one by one.

Ben sighed and shifted around on the bed. He had thought about ripping his hands through the cuffs before, but she must've read his mind. She now had him completely strapped down to the bed, along with the cuffs. It was impossible to move now.

It was quiet in the room. So much so that it was making Ben uncomfortable. He blew a raspberry to break the silence, his tongue vibrating between his lips. It made his lungs hurt (Trina had taken interest in acupuncture earlier in the week, starting her learning on his ribcage), but he kept blowing.

Then he caught his tongue between his teeth, and realized he had all he needed to suffocate right here and now.

He tried to swallow his own tongue, but found he couldn't manage.

Then he started to chew. He ripped into his own tongue with his molars, feeling the blood pool in his mouth.

It felt right, he knew he had enough.

He took in all the blood in one breath.

Jerry glanced at the clock on the desk and dropped a massive f-bomb as he realized an hour had passed. The monitor that had been flashing Ben's vitals has last said 80bpm, but when Jerry switched his sight over to it, he saw that it was sitting back down at 60bpm.

"The fuck?"

He looked up to the pod and saw that the door was swinging open.

Jerry ran to the pod and looked in, and saw Ben laying there in the pod, eyes open, and a wide smile on his face.

"I didn't do it, didn't I?" Ben asked.

"You didn't do what?"

"I need to do it again, huh, before she comes back in the room."

Jerry jerked back as he saw Ben begin to chew.

Need help with hinges woodworking

I'm building a simple play kitchen for my son for Christmas and I'm getting lost in the world of hinges. Could someone please point me in the right direction before I end up buying $30 a piece Euro Hinges?

I'm going to be building three cabinets. The largest will be the "refrigerator" and be approximately 48" high and 20" wide. I'm planning on making the the doors out of 1/2" plywood and mounting them on sides made of 1x12" boards (still working out what type of boards, but I'm thinking something harder than pine).

I'm planning on frameless, inset doors. I would prefer to have them be "soft-close" as my son is very energetic with his cooking. Any help would be appreciated!

30 [M4F] Feeling like exploring my old prompts from soft vanilla to kinky! dirtypenpals

I've got this wild hair to use some of my old prompts and see if anyone wants to play along.

Escape (the pina colada song) If you are familiar with the yacht rock classic then you'll see where I'm going with this. If not then here's what happens. A guy is browsing through personal ads while his lady is asleep. He's bored with his life and wants something different. An ad catches his eye and he replies to it that they should meet at a bar. When the woman arrives to meet him it is his own lady. She had the same thoughts as him and had posted that ad. They realize that the excitement they were looking for was really each other.

The smut writer's intern Someone is looking for a job and applies to be a secretary / personal assistant for a writer (my character). Unfortunately for this intern the writer is an established writer of erotica and while she's not into it, she needs the job. The writer needs errands and help organizing to meet his deadlines. Some of which involves research. Contacting, local swingers / Dom(mes) or just browsing sex shops for toys. Her curiosity gets the better of her and eventually she becomes part of the research herself.

The Surprise I walked in to the house. It had been a long day and all I can think about is zoning out to the television. I kick off my shoes walk over to the kitchen to grab a beer. My hand freezes on the handle before I can open the refrigerator. There is a muffled buzzing and a dim light on in the bedroom. I walk slowly down the hall and stop at the door. In the corner of the room there is an armchair and it is turned to face the door. You sit naked in the chair, legs spread, one leg casually propped up on the arm. You are rubbing the vibrator slowly on yourself as you stare into my eyes.

Knotty I've always had a fascination with Shibari and the rope work that goes into it. Maybe it was boy scouts and teaching knots or sailing on the weekends. I'm more impressed with the artistry of the craft and the patience and dedication of both the subject and the crafter. You finally decide to indulge me.

A good pet After a hard day at work there is nothing better than coming home to my pet. You wait at the door, holding out your leash for me to take you on a walk. You are excited to see me but are scared that I won't have time for you. I put down my bag and run the leash in my hands, a few tugs to pull you close as you "wag" your tail toy in happiness.

I like to get to know you a little but if you want to start with any of these right off just let me know your limits / kinks. I'm pretty open to anything except extreme violence and poop.
