Just wanted to post a funny story about how I used to recover data. I used to work as the head Operations Support Specialist for a Home Decor importer and wholesaler. We had 250+ Sales Reps who used Toshiba Tablet PC's, and these old fashioned Flip Screen laptops had defective hard drives.
At the time, the reps would have to sync their data by MODEM every evening for the days's sales in the field. Sometimes they would accumulate $100k of sales per person, and often, they would get home and the hard drive in their tablet PC's would "fail" before they could sync.
After sending them in, My fellow support staff and I discovered that if we put the hard drives in the Freezer of the break room, that we could, after 2 hours, plug the drives up and recover the data from the machine. Its quite an experience to have the head of HR walk in and ask you why you are putting "computer things in the refrigerator" haha!
Just thought I would share :)
