electrical problem after replacing fridge water dispenser HomeImprovement

I started the simple repair of replacing a broken paddle for dispensing water on a FRS6LF7JW3 refrigerator. I watched this video, but the instructions are basically

  1. unplug the fridge

  2. unscrew the case , slide it off, unplug the cable

  3. unscrew the housing, pull it away slightly

  4. unscrew the paddle mounting plates, remove the paddle

  5. in reverse, put it back together

That all seems pretty simple, except that now something seems to have happened to the electrical. When I plug the front board back in to the other board (or plug the fridge in), it acts as if the ice is supposed to be dispensing. I checked that there is nothing activating the switch. I also tried unplugging one of the leads to the ice switch entirely. It still attempts to dispense ice. When it is plugged in, it also can dispense water now as it should.

Sooo now I've gone from having no possibility of dispensing water to having no ability to dispense ice OR water, since I can't leave the board plugged in. I can order replacement parts online, but the paddle was about $30 so I just epoxied it together. The electrical boards are over $100 each and I don't know which one is broken, plus of course they worked fine previously, and I don't know how I could have damaged them, since I didn't really interact with them.

Mine looks very similar to the one in the video, except that I have a ribbon cable instead of the pin cable, and I have a peg instead of a second screw on one of the plates.

Thanks for your help!
