Throwaway account bc this story is really detailed and could definitely lead back to me real easily.
So last semester I started college, met my roommate on one of those "roommate finer" things that the school uses to help you find a roommate (duh). We texted back and forth for about 6 months before school, but we never met. At one point during these 6 months, we were even best friends, and I was really happy to be rooming with someone I knew and not some random.
Fast forward to October and my boyfriend is visiting and I'm super excited because we haven't seen each other in 2 whole months!! I had informed my old roommate (we'll call her Sarah) at least 6 weeks before he was actually visiting, so she definitely knew about it prior to him arriving-- she seemed happy that she would get to meet him, and did not in any way seem bothered by it, until the literal day my boyfriend showed up. She started telling me that I was inconsiderate and selfish and that I was in the wrong for having him over at all and that our relationship was going to fail anyways so there was no point for him to even be there. She also liked to remind me that her ex-boyfriend died and that I was lucky to even be in a long distance relationship because "there's no phone to heaven," and for everyone who's ever been in a LDR, you know it's not fucking easy.
Anyways, so the weekend passes and my boyfriend leaves, and Sarah and I don't talk about it and just go about our normal routine. Then one day I'm cleaning up and throw away an empty cereal box that was on top of our refrigerator. A few hours later I get a text asking what I did with the cereal box, and I tell Sarah that I threw it away because it was empty. Then she goes on this HUGE tangent about how I'm irresponsible and a thief for stealing her cereal.
Then, in November, for some odd reason Sarah decides to throw me a birthday party which I never asked for nor did I want. It was nice, and I was appreciative, except for the fact that I had to pay for my birthday meal, which sounds kind of snobby, admittedly, but I guess I was just raised differently (see also: correctly).
So I transfer schools, and I forget my retainers in my old room. Sarah finds them, and tells me she'll mail them back to me. EXCEPT, she doesn't because I "wasn't nice enough" when she said she would send them back.
My parents ended up calling the campus police on her because it had been like 6 weeks and my teeth started to move and they didn't want to spend a bunch of money to get new retainers, or even braces. So the cop gets her to send them, but she wants money for the postage, $8, so I say cool I'll probably get it to you by next week.
Next week passes, I didn't have time to send it (much like she didn't have time to send me my stuff, but I digress), so I ask my Mom to do it that Friday.
Then I get a text on Monday from Sarah saying that if she doesn't get it by that night, then she's calling the cops. I was under the impression it had already been sent, which I tell her, but then I called my Mom and she said she hadn't had a chance to do it, but that she will tomorrow. I say cool, and the next day I send a picture of the postage to Sarah so she knows she'll be getting it.
She then proceeds to call the cops because she "didn't get the money she was promised." This is also coming from a girl who quote on quote told me, "I'm not poor, you are."
I'm just really upset, not sure what to do if a cop shows up at my house even though I know they probably won't because it's 8 fucking dollars but I'm just so done with her talking me down and trying to make me feel like a bad person. Or honestly if I'm in the wrong let me know, I have a hard time seeing both sides of the situation sometimes. Any advice or kind words would be really nice. Thanks if you read this far.
tl;dr: crazy roommate is crazy and called the cops on me for $8
