(US - CA) My landlord wants to claim my new fridge as theirs. Says I must sign it over to them. legaladvice

My MIL bought us a new refrigerator. Apartment owner says I have to give it to them. I say I have to leave one of equal or better value than the one I replaced, which was manufactured in 1991. Also, I have no plans to move out anytime soon. How should I respond to their request for the make/model/serial number request from them?
