Hey reddit, I'm hoping you have some suggestions. I've been riding 11 years, and my current bike is a 98 Bandit 1200... which has been fantastic for 4 years, but I think it's time to move on. My previous motorcycles include an 08 Harley Sportster, an 04 Harley Dyna, VStar 1100, GSX-R 600, and an 81 CB750.
I'm thinking about purchasing another Sportster (or buell..?), because I've had one before and know that they can be good bikes... but without $$$$ invested in suspension and motor it's not going to work for me. I also don't want to miss out on a great bike just because I want something familiar.
My requirements include: - EFI. I don't want to work on carbs ever again. - Character. I've ridden a number of bikes (Honda.. BMW) that have no personality. Ever tried to form a relationship with a refrigerator? This is the toughest requirement to fill. - Power. I commute 150 miles round trip, typically at 80+ mph. - Agility. Need to confidently split through socal traffic, or whats the point. Also needs to be a competent canyon carver for the weekend hooliganing with the mates. - Reliable. I like belt drive (dislike shafts. chains take maintenance, and lazy.), low maint bulletproof motors. I'd love a Duc but their reliability/service cost scares me, for instance. - Price. Tryin to spend 6k or less (used.. but good condition)
