I posted this to /r/creepy and they said you may know something on the topic. I'm not really sure what to do or where to begin researching this. I may very well be insane, but I'm legitimately concerned that some sort of entity may be following me. Bear with me. My story starts off slow. If you know anything that may be helpful in my situation, please do give me your input.
In October of 2013, my roommate Sierra and I found a nice house and moved in. It's an older brick house with 4 bedrooms. I have the entire upstairs to myself. There's nothing really odd about my house; I don't get a creepy vibe. But we do have a suspicion that there is a ghost lurking these halls.
I've only had one strange thing happen to me. About a month into the move, I was in my kitchen making eggs. I was cooking them over low heat and I turned around to wash a couple dishes while I was waiting for them to heat up. When I turned back around, my eggs were heated; They were ready to stir. But when I looked up, the stove was off. It takes a little bit of force to work the stove, so this little instance can't be dismissed as wind. A few days later, I was discussing it with my friend. We were standing in the kitchen cooking pot pie. She said something along the lines of "GHOST, COME OUT NOW. SHOW YOURSELF" I responded "It's not going to show itself now that you called it out!" Right then and there, there was a HUGE bang on my stove. These two instances, aside from the gut feeling that something watches me sleep sometimes, are the only "encounters" that I have had with the "ghost" personally. Then again, I'm very oblivious and I do have a short attention span.
Sierra, my roommate, has had more encounters. From the day we moved in to this very day, she always hears footsteps in my room when I'm not home. She's seen dark figures walking through the house, usually in the kitchen, walking downstairs to the basement, and once in the living room. There is a light in the kitchen that flickers even though we keep it off. The cat sits at the foot of the stairs that lead to my bedroom and stares intently at god knows what.
We took in a third roommate sometime in November that year. We didn't know at the time, but she was a terrible addition to our home and only lasted about 3 months. Her name is Irrelevant, and she walked into the kitchen one day and an empty liquor bottle flew off the top of my refrigerator and hit the wall, inches away from her head. Irrelevant also claimed she heard strange noises, but I'm not sure whether she's a legible source. What she says may be void.
At this point, Sierra and I decided if there is a ghost, it is my protector. It doesn't really do anything to scare me, never shows itself to me except for those two days; The first one, possibly out of fear I would burn the house down, and the second to be known. I do have ashes in the house. They belong to my older brother, who passed away about 2 1/2 years ago, 8 months before I moved in. So I figured there's a possibility he has something to do with this.
In late February/early March 2014, we kicked Irrelevant out and added in a new roommate, Elias. Elias took the creepy room in the basement, which we barely even touched. From the getgo, he started seeing dark figures. Two men. One taller, one shorter. He hears footsteps upstairs when none of us are home and is usually hearing strange noises.
In November 2014, I started dating a complete lunatic. During this period, my roommates say the ghost was acting up more than ever. One day, I fell asleep instead of hanging out with him and he almost got abducted by aliens. That was probably a lie, but if not, that is a thing. He claimed to be part of a secret psychic order; The legitimacy of this, I don't know. Anyways, he told me I am spiritually gifted and I don't even know it. He was a complete nutcase, so anything he said is probably void.
In February, a friend of mine and Sierra's dropped her kids off at our house to spend the night. Devin, age 3, and Garrett, age 8. When I wasn't home, Devin was standing in the kitchen pointing to the hallway. "Man. That man." He said it repeatedly and Sierra was terrified, but she dismissed it. The next day, he was standing in the hallway, pointing to the spare room. "Guy. Guy. Guy." My heart dropped. I asked "Devin, is there a guy?" "Yes." He was certain of it, and he continued to say "Guy. Guy. Guy." Garrett was egging him on and telling me to open the door. He thought my terror was hilarious. So I went to the door and I opened it. Devin walked away into my living room. "Devin, is there a guy?" "Yes." "Is it a mean guy or a nice guy?" He didn't respond. He stopped talking after that, actually.
Now, that's the background. Finally, to the part that I'm concerned about. I was having a conversation with my coworker, Brandon, the other day about my ghost. I told him that IF I have a ghost, it is my protector and explained to him what was on my mind. Brandon studied Demonology for 3 years I think, and seems to know what he is talking about. He explained to me that it could be something bad; a demon, disguising itself as my protector. Not so much of a protector as overprotective of me. He said I may be in danger.
I dismissed this conversation, sort of. It's crazy speak. But the next day, I was talking to an ex of mine. Not the crazy one, but one I am somewhat friends with, James. A background on James and I: We had a fling back in my apartment days and broke things off before I moved into this house. New Years 2014, I was at his house and we wound up hooking up. It was a one night thing and nothing ever came of it.
Just two days ago, he told me something that he never did then. The day after we hooked up, he woke up every night at 2:11 am with an eerie feeling. It went on for about a month. He felt like he was being watched. He had nightmares, always about something in his room. He had never had anything like this before. One story he told me sticks out. He was in some sort of limbo, half awake half asleep, and he felt something jerk him out of his bed and throw him across the room. He saw a dark figure and he started screaming at it to go away, and it did. With what Brandon and James told me, I'm half tempted to meet up with my exes and ask them if anything strange happened to them after me, but I don't want to. I know I'll come off as crazy. The guy I'm talking to now doesn't even believe in ghosts so I can't turn to him. Maybe I will make him believe and he'll be afraid of me like James is.
I'm open to any input. I don't know much about demons and I don't even know where to begin to search for something to do here. Am I stupid and overreacting? I could very well just be crazy, but could there be a chance my harmless ghost is some sort of demon?
