LG Warranty replacement life hack? lifehacks

Hello all.

I have an LG refrigerator that came with my house. It is not a new house. I bought my house from the family of an elderly woman who had to be moved to an assisted living facility.

The LG refrigerator has a warranty on it's compressor, which is currently broken. However, LG wants an original purchase receipt, which I do not have. The previous owner''s son has no idea where the receipt is.

I have tried calling LG and they said an original purchase receipt is all that they will accept. A replacement WITH the warranty will be about 200 some odd dollars. Without, it will be 800. It seems ridiculous to me that in this day and age when they can tell me the date the fridge was purchased, that I need a piece of paper use the warranty. It is without a doubt my fridge.

I have tried calling Lowes to see if they could look up the serial number to see if it was purchased there, and they seemed confused.

LG will provide the date it was purchased, but not where.

Is there a way to search a serial number for the appliance and see where it was purchased so I can call and perhaps find an original purchase receipt?

Can you think of anything to help with this situation? How would you get the warranty honored?

My next step is to try Twitter.... but I am almost out of ideas. Other than to perhaps buy the part myself and attempt to install the compressor on my own.
