I need to lose a storage unit fast - what are my options? personalfinance

Currently I am paying $90/month for a storage unit I rented when I moved out of my large home and into a much smaller apartment. I've had it since February of 2014. I've now had it for more than a year, and other than a few big things (refrigerator, piano, sofa, large printer), I honestly don't even remember what all is in there.

I need some cash, and I need to get rid of that $90/month, so I'm ready to sell the contents and get it all out of my life. The trouble is as follows:

I live in a tiny apartment and can't have a garage sale here. I do have one friend in this city who has a house and we could have a garage sale there, but...

I don't have a truck, nor do I know anyone with a truck. Even if I rented one, I would also need to hire some folks to help me load and unload it, and even then I can't be sure I'd sell everything at a garage sale.

I contacted the storage unit and they don't allow "garage sales" at their facility - I can bring people in one at a time to look at things and buy them, but that process could take months, plus the unit is about 20 miles from my apartment (not the best foresight, I know) and I just see having to run out there over and over again to let a stranger look at it and go, "Hmm, never mind."

Honestly, I'd take a lump sum for the whole thing, but I don't even know where to start. Storage auctions don't seem to be a big event in my city.

What would YOU do, PF?
