I recently closed on a home. I have very basic electrical knowledge. During the inspection, the inspector said that I should have a GFCI outlet installed in the kitchen. After some trial and error I found out that the wall has two outlets and the refrigerator (third outlet) on a single circuit. The breaker for the circuit is 20A. I pulled out the 15A outlet and replaced it with a 15A GFCI outlet. The load side of the GFCI has the second outlet and the refrigerator. When I plug a lamp (single CFL) into the second outlet it trips the GFCI.
Since the circuit is 20A, is it safe to put a 20A GFCI outlet?
