Death Battle's Kirby CharacterRant

Here is a detailed breakdown of what Death Battle got right and wrong with the Kirby half of "Kirby Vs. Majin Buu." I initially intended to make this post in time for this but, unfortunately, I wasn't done watching the show in time.

Note that I am not going into the Buu half of the debate as I don't know jack about Dragon Ball.

"Kirby's body is malleable, allowing him to stretch his mouth and inhale larger objects, though he does have trouble wrapping his mouth around extremely large and heavy things."	Body is malleable. He can shrink objects into his mouth with effort.	"Extremely large and heavy things" is a direct quote. The very clip they used showed a refrigerator shrinking as it reached the event horizon of Kirby's belly.	They were wrong, though I can easily see where they got that conclusion from.
"The Warp Star is Kirby's primary means of transportation through the universe, and can travel at speeds faster then light."	True, though it's never been shown moving at those speeds within combat.	It has dodged electric bolts at close range but typically goes at supersonic speeds in flight.	They applied game Warp Star's traveling speed to Anime Warp Star's fighting style.
"It is forged of Kirby's own energy, so, while delicate, should it be destroyed, Kirby can easily create a new one on his own."	Kirby has been shown pulling a Warp Star out of nowhere, though the reason has not been given. It is delicate, though.	There is only one Warp Star and Kirby gets energy from it. It's also rather durable.	They drew mostly from the games, though they dipped into the anime just enough to give Kirby his vehicle during the fight.
"When Kirby swallows a victim, they don't exactly die."	False	True	They did this so that Kirby could fight two Buus instead of just one.
"Turns out Kirby's stomach, is, in fact, an entirely separate and endless dimension of reality."	It's a small pocket dimension called the "Copy Pallet." If Kirby eats too much, he will get a tummy ache.	It is a dimension. Its size was never stated.	Seems reasonable.
"He can actually enter his own stomach dimension and draw from his captive's power using his copy ability."	Unknown	True. He's shown drawing power from his dimension whenever he transforms. To those looking on from the outside, he just spins once before instantly morphing.	Checks out.
"He can pour a ton of energy into the blade, and make it grow into the powerful Ultra Sword."	He seems to get the Ultra Sword from more magic-looking creatures	He can increase the size of his blade by energizing it.	This is actually a really interesting conclusion.
"By inhaling a Miracle Fruit, he becomes Hyper Nova Kirby, capable of devouring worlds."	Made the game inhale compatible to its anime counterpart. However, it was shown powering up other characters as well	Did not exist at the time	Giving Kirby Hypernova without actually increasing his power would be redundant, so an additional boost makes sense. I'm going to assume that "capable of devouring worlds" is pure hyperbole.
"Last, but not least, by absorbing his own Warp Star..."	False	True	Checks out.
"...Kirby can create his ultimate weapon, the Star Rod..."	Kirby has had much stronger weapons.	True	Checks out.
"...capable of destroying evil..."	False	False	???
"...and most of the moon."	False. It was the Nightmare's destruction that caused the moon to blow.	False	This would be like saying Samus' missiles destroyed Zeebus.
"He's powerful enough to crack a planet in half"	True. Two minigames and a tie-in manga.	False	Checks out.
"fast enough to run on water"	Unconfirmed. In terms of his combat speed, he's able to keep up with Meta Knight.	True. His combat speed is also pretty fast.	True, but this statement doesn't address his combat speed.
"He was barely fazed after being crushed under thousands of tons of pressure, and effortlessly survived an explosion massive enough to eclipse the entire world."	True	True	Checks out completely
"He's achieved all of this despite being only eight inches tall."	Maybe. Mentioned in Smash Bros and a Japanese promo site but never confirmed in-game.	False	Eh
"He's a baby, and has yet to fully mature as a Star Warrior."	False	True	Checks out
"He's not too bright, so he's not gonna be whipping up any genius strategies mid-fight."	True	False	He's been tricked many times in the games. In the anime, though, there were several episodes dedicated to showing him creating new techniques on the fly as he faced more and more pressure.

Battle Setting

  Putting Kirby within a setting without access to his Copy Abilities would have been biased in favor of DBZ.

  Giving Kirby his Copy Essence Deluxe would have made the video less suspenseful, as Kirby could have transformed between abilities at any time. It would have also deviated from Kirby's 'standard' moveset of only getting abilities by eating enemies.

  Giving Kirby five abilities via the Copy Pallet would have involved giving Kirby prep. (Yes, I will address the Hypernova thing in a minute...)

  Setting Kirby within the DBZ universe would have given Buu all his forms. The fan outrage over the results of this fight are already high. Having Kirby beat all of Buu's forms would have just been ridiculous. Especially since the Death Battle crew would have had less time for proper research.

  Setting Kirby within the DBZ universe would have also meant that Kirby would have to eat its inhabitants to get an ability. What copy ability would Goku give? Freeza? Shenron? That's not even going into the new levels of saltiness...

  
  

Hypernova During Battle

In the anime, Kirby was shown to be able to reacquire an apple he had eaten earlier. In Triple Deluxe, Kirby ate a good number of Miracle Fruits. It makes complete sense that Composite Kirby could use Hypernova on the spot like that.

The size of Buu's attack in the episode was at a size that Hypernova+Anime Kirby could eat. Whether or not this would have worked if Buu made the attack much larger is debatable.

I've seen it argued that the Planet Burst could have been shot back at a stronger force than Buu threw it.

This is based off the fact that Anime Kirby once spat away a star's orbit using ordinary cannonballs. The force might have been increased even further because of the Hypernova.

However, this is all speculation; whether or not it was able to surpass Buu's strength is up in the air.

Frying Pan Feat

In the games, Kirby's stats tend to stay the same regardless of the ability. There are exceptions, such a Jet making him fly at Mach 5 speeds, but these are not the norm.

The anime differs. While Kirby struggled to lift a tank-sized spaceship without a Copy Ability, he was able to toss a guy into space with one. Not only that, but Kirby would get an additional boost from being around his Warp Star.

Anime Cook is an interesting ability in terms of boosts. It's implied but never outright stated that Kirby gets stronger with that ability whenever he's fighting food-like enemies.

In short, the only way Anime Kirby's cook could work on Buu would be if it could turn him into a perfectly wrapped piece of gum. Otherwise, using it as an overall strength feat is iffy.
