Last night at 7:30 a breaker switched off (apparently I can't run the dishwasher and microwave at the same time...) and power shut off to the refrigerator and half the apartment. I'm in a 3 story building with roughly 30 units.
I immediately called the management company (Becovic) and kindly informed the after hours people and they would send someone out. Nobody came. Called again an hour later. Nobody came. I called 4 times before I took the freezer stuff and put it outside because it's luckily 18 degrees out and went to bed.
I called again this morning at 6 and was basically told it's "not an issue on their urgent list"!!! their website claims 24/7 urgent maintenance service. It's now 8am and I'm going to be at least an hour late for work.
I know Chicago municipal code says I should have 24 hour access to fuse box and if I don't then the on-duty staff needs to give me access. The room is behind a padlock in the basement.
What are my options? Can I make them reduce rent for spoiled groceries?
