Hello! Allow me to provide some background into the advice I'm looking for (tl;dr at the bottom):
Three different departments just moved into the nearby offices on the floor of my department's building. What was once just our pantry is now shared with two of the three departments (one dept. has their own new pantry). The pantry consists of a refrigerator, toaster oven, microwave, coffee machine, table with 4 chairs, and a water cooler (no sink). There's been a lot of tension lately because the other departments have been taking their lunch inside the pantry and closing the door. Many of my coworkers say they feel uncomfortable trying to get coffee or grab their lunch from the fridge because when they open the door, other people are talking loudly, stop to stare at you, then stay silent or snicker quietly among themselves.
Some of my coworkers want to put a sign saying not to close the door, while others don't mind if the other departments want privacy. I was asked for my opinion, but didn't answer right away because I don't want to create any hostility towards anyone. How would you handle this situation?
tl;dr: My department's small pantry is now shared by two other departments and they close the door making us feel like we're not allowed in. Would you feel the same way and what would you do, or not care/leave it alone?
