About refrigerating store bought tomatoes AskCulinary

It's fairly common knowledge that it is bad practice to put tomatoes in the refrigerator. Being chilled will change a tomato's texture and flavor in an irreversible way. My question is whether it would even matter in the case of store bought tomatoes, since they're delivered to the store on a produce truck which is almost certainly refrigerated. If the change to the tomatoes is permanent, and they've already been refrigerated, why do so many people insist on not putting them in the fridge?
