Fridge warm/no cold air, freezer cold with food still frozen appliancerepair

Appliance info: Amana fridge model BR18V1C

I thought the other day our fridge seemed a little warmer than normal but bottles and stuff felt cold. We came home tonight and when I opened the fridge it smelled like sour milk and the milk jug was not really cold at all. I put my hand up to the air door/chamber thing and never feel any air.

I checked the freezer and stuff is good down there but upon inspecting the freezer back wall/panel i noticed a decent amount of frost. I took the screws out for the freezer back panel wall and removed it to find this: http://ift.tt/2zRoGBk

The fan is spinning without issue but I'm guessing because it's so iced over that there isn't enough air or something to go up the air door/chamber to the fridge? I'm guessing this means it is something with the defrost system?

I found the defrost timer in the lower front of the unit and I manually advanced it to the point where it started the defrost system (compressor and fans and stuff turn off) however I'm not sure how quickly ice would melt if it was working. I pulled the freezer back wall panel off after about 20 minutes and it doesn't appear to be melting anything although I don't know where the heater is so I don't know where to look but again i don't think anything melted.

I did find this: http://ift.tt/2hnvXlg

And it appears there are only 3 replaceable components to the defrost system. Should I just take all the food out of the freezer and unplug the fridge and just let it thaw out completely and then try and diagnose the defrost components? The defrost timer is working because I went and checked on the fridge and it was back running again.

That awkward moment when the Jones's realize we aren't trying to keep up with them... personalfinance

My wife and I are friends with almost everyone on our street. There is one couple that embodies typical American consumerism. They have good jobs, but the house is rented because the 3 cars are mortgaged and you just can't put anything away with all these Disneyland trips.

My wife and I have the same floor plan house as them, it's just a mirror image. We are on a 15 year fixed and I aim to have it paid off in ten. We also have 3 cars. Two 99's and an '03. They all look 2-3 years old because we keep up on the maintenance. Our kids think Disneyland is a fictional, mythical place, but they sure know how to help pitch a tent and bait a hook.

Recently, our refrigerator gave up the ghost and we asked those neighbors if we could throw some of our meat and such in theirs while we went fridge shopping. Upon hearing this, the wife told us "You should go to Aaron's. They don't even check your credit!" I replied "Nah, those places rip you off and get twice the price of the fridge with all the finance charges. We'll just buy one."

"Yeah buh......." I could see the wheels turning in her head as she realized the couple with an 18 year old Ford Explorer could write a $1000 check and she probably couldn't.

I've never felt so satisfied to have a frugal lifestyle and an emergency fund.

Edit: We did take the kids to Disneyland once but they were too young to remember. I hated it. Huge crowds, tons of money, long lines. A week at a borrowed cabin still remains my favorite family vacation of all time and I think the kids agree.

We will do Disney again, but I swear I will only go if it's raining. I hate crowds.

[KY] Family member signed a lease after a walk through. Finding new issues prepping to move in. legaladvice

A family member(FM) signed a lease two weeks ago for a single bedroom apartment at a fairly inexpensive rate. According to her, management did a cursory walk through noting minor damages, but to my ear it seemed rushed by MGMT. FM was too excited about having a place of her own to be focused on detail, so not all damages were noted.

I'd not known of it until after the lease signing or would have insisted on being there.

I'll just list what I've found so far:

  • Apt reeked of cat piss coming from master closet.
  • Toilet doesn't flush properly.
  • Dish Washer was full of rust and mildew, doesn't drain.
  • Refrigerator was putrid, the non-removable water pan absolutely full of hard stuck tar, mildew and cockroaches.
  • borax everywhere, presumably for roaches.
  • A coating of nicotine and tar on every conceivable surface.
  • cigarette burns in "new" carpet.

The whole place smelled of cat urine, mildew, cigarettes and dead insects (open a window that's got a collection of dead bugs in the still and take a whiff - it's horrifyingly worse).

I found out today that the fridge had been unplugged, the windows and balcony door left open as well as all the windows during the walk through. I had just assumed incompetence until today.

Unfortunately FM had cleaned most of this herself without taking any photos, and I don't know yet what was listed on the walk through. I've documented anything she hadn't touched. Notably the carpet and fridge.

FM is also disabled, allergic to everything to varying degrees, and prone to illness. The effort put forth in cleaning could take weeks to recover from (she's not even supposed to use a vacuum).

I'm here because she's already signed a lease including pre-existing damages(presumably not even half of what I discovered), and I'm not sure what to do from here forward apart from photo and video documentation. I'm not available to help clean the place, live roaches have been found, her current living situation is on a deadline to move out, and I don't want her ending up in the hospital from exertion or potential health hazards.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

If you are putting something in the refrigerator for the first time are you not frigerating it rather that refrigerating it? Showerthoughts

Also how come fridge has a 'd' but refrigerator doesn't?

Help! Smoking chickens for a chef! BBQ

I'm a 16yo female, looking to stick my hands into the culinary world. I've practiced tons over the years and have read up quite a bit, but I want to make sure I do this right. I've been working in the kitchen of the 1# rated resort in the Midwest and today the chef has asked me to smoke him two whole chickens on property. I'm in panic mode! Super excited, make it or break it. This is a 47180T Smoke Hollow smoker and I've never smoked on something this large before. Help me go through the steps and make sure I don't forget anything? He's going to be watching me, so my home steps may be incorrect.

  1. Should I brine the chicken ahead of time? Would that be best?

  2. The rub is whatever they have in the kitchen, I have no idea what they'll have. What should I go through if they have it? Brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, paprika, ground mustard, are my obvious choices.

I'm trying to watch YouTube videos on how to run this machine just right. If any of you know, though, what are some things I should look out for? Don't miss kind of steps? I don't know where to put the wood and charcoal on this thing, if I need to start it the way I start my cave-man mini barrel smoker. I'm thinking a lighter wood they have.

I'll clean the chicken if it needs to be cleaned (remove giblets). Run cold water over and inside it and clean it off. Then, I'll (potentially) brine it over night in something. The next day I'll pull it out (of the refrigerator). Pat it dry and layer the rub generously. No need for binder right? Let sit for an hour or two, fold the wings in and place directly on the grill (room temperature when putting it on the smoker?) And smoke until the breast is at least 165f. What should I smoke it at, temperature wise to get a nice golden crust and it cooked all the way through?

Most detailed steps are appreciated. I just would like to be prepared. I might be doing this on October 31st or November 1st. I know this may sound stupid, but every little bit helps and I thank you for your patience.

I made my 1st Edibles. My report treedibles

I bought a Magic Butter machine and tried my hand at gummies. I am super excited to report they are great.

My recipe was using 153% Grain Alcohol and 3/4oz decarb product and the 4 hour option on the MB machine. I had a yield of 42 large gummies made with minimal loss from the pan and utensils. I bought raspberry flavored gelatin and sweet and sour coating for the finished gummy. The sizes of the fish shapes are 10-17 grams each and the large bar shape are 30-35 grams each.

I tried a half of the fish (~8 grams) shaped gummy and found a beautiful light high of an 8/10 - 10/10 for the night.

Would do again. I am keeping most of them in the freezer, and keeping a few at a time on the refrigerator.
