Question about food safety: can I serve the Easter ham to my toddler? food
So my in-laws are cooking ham for this Easter (I know it's just good Friday but we're doing it today). They left a huge leg of pork to defrost overnight out of the refrigerator. Know, I know this is terrible habit, and I've told them multiple times. Anyways, they're cooking it in the oven right now at 150C and it's gonna be in there for at least 4h.
I am not going to eat it because I'm vegetarian but I am concerned for my daughter. Is it safe and am I overreacting?

Will these olives make me sick? food
I bought a jar of cocktail olives maybe a year ago..ish. They are vermouth flavored stuffed queen pimiento olives imported from Spain. I've kept in the refrigerator since opening, again it was around a year or so ago. The best by date on the cap is June/2017, but they've been opened for a long time.
I wanted to make some martinis tonight. Will these olives make us sick?

Cooking Cote de beouf (prime rib) for Christmas. What do you think of my recipe? food
Hey guys,
I'm buying a 100 day dry aged Cote De Beouf (Prime Rib) for Christmas...approximately 8 pounds I think. Since this is a VERY expensive piece of meat I want to plan everything out and take on any suggestions. Here we go:
- Salt and pepper the meat an entire day before cooking and keep it in the refrigerator.
- Take meat out on Christmas, preheat oven to 200 degrees.
- Smash garlic and rosemary together in a pestle and mortar and mix with olive oil. Coat the entire meat with it.
- Put in oven and keep in there (maybe 4 hrs?) until internal temp hits 130 degrees for medium rare.
- Take meat out, cover, let rest, but preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- Put meat back in but 5-10 minutes to develop a crust.
- Take out, slice and lightly salt the slices with truffle salt.
What do you think? Any suggestions or thoughts from my rib steak pros here?
Thanks!

Need help with cooked vegetable food
Chayote, Zucchini and mainly cooked carrots(and sometimes broccoli), are souring very fast inside the refrigerator. They last about 2 to 3 days before they spoil. i dont know if it is a problem of my refrigerator or if im doing something wrong, but it used to last 5 to 7 days before it sour. My method of conservation is to place them inside in separated plastic pots with no paper in the botton(except for the broccoli). thats it. i hope you help me to realize what im doing it wrong.

How long do grapes last if I ship them? food
I want to ship a box of grapes to my Mom.. I'm nervous about how they'll be treated in transport, but that's another story.
Do you think grapes will last a 2-3 day trip to my Mom (express mail is like triple the price)? I bought them last night. They are in a ventilated bag from the store. They were not in the refrigerator at all. They were not washed.
.. or do you think I should just open the box and keep them?

Looking for filling snack ideas food
Hey everyone. I work somewhere where I don't have time to make food. We have a refrigerator and a microwave, but I don't always have time to heat something up. Some days, I get so hungry and need a quick snack. Lately I have been eating those little Debbie snacks, but they don't fill me up at all. What is something, preferably pretty packaged, that I can grab and go, that will hold me over for awhile?
I worknow outdoors and typically walk about 12 miles a day, so a little energy is needed sometimes.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Accidentally left fridge open food
Hi. I accidentally left my refrigerator open for about an hour. I was wondering if it’s safe to keep my meat and dairy products, or if I should throw them away.
Thanks in advance!

Going into my senior year of college, I'm trying to be self sufficient with food and swear off the cafeteria. food
Hello food people of reddit!
Next year in college, I need ways to keep myself healthy and out of the dining commons at my college. Ways to stay cheap, easy, but healthy (a hard combination).
So far I've been finding salvation in organic canned food such as beans and peaches. I will have a stove, a skillet, and a refrigerator. I was just wondering if anyone on this sub had any advice or food suggestions for me so I can try to keep this trifecta going for the whole year.

Am I not marinating my chicken breast properly? food
I eat a lot of plain chicken breast and recently decided to try to add some flavor by marinating the chicken. I bought sweet baby rays honey teriyaki marinade and on the bottle it said to marinate for thirty minutes. So I stuck a thawed chicken breast on a zip lock bag, filled it with marinade and let it sit for thirty minutes. I then took it out and backed it for fifteen minutes on 400f. I didn't really notice any flavor from the marinade. The next day I repeated the process except I let it sit in the refrigerator for eight hours. Still no discernable flavor change on the chicken. Am I doing something wrong? I never cook so it wouldn't surprise me. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

My upright freezer was left open! Is my fridge food ok? food
I have a standard American refrigerator with 2 doors. Top door is for the freezer, bottom is for the fridge. My understanding is the freezer air is circulated in the fridge compartment for cooling.
My son placed a large tray of chicken quarters in the freezer and it fell out, opening the door, and everything in the freezer was thawed by the time I saw it this morning. I checked the stuff and it was all thawed. Ice cream was liquid. Totally melted. I know I have to toss everything in the freezer. I just closed it and figured I'd take care of it later. Today was a busy day heading into town to pay respects at the national cemetery and I really didn't have time for that. I figure, it's no good. I'll worry about it later.
So then I get home and realize I never checked the food in the fridge to see if that was cold or not.
I'd normally say "screw it" and toss everything, but tomorrow is my birthday and I bought $50 in king crab legs for my birthday dinner. It's only 2 1/2 lbs (4 pieces) of crab, but I'm in Minnesota and that stuff isn't cheap here. I can't afford to replace it, but I'm not sure if it's safe to eat now.
The food in the freezer was still cold, just thawed.
I'm a little frustrated and I don't know what to do.
The king crab legs are pre-cooked. All I have to do is heat it up. I'm not sure if that changes the rules or not, being as it's not raw meat.
I'm kind of pissed at my son, but he was trying to do the right thing. The chicken was thawed and didn't have to go in the freezer, and there was room in the fridge.
(teenagers!!)

I have a question. :) food
Got something to eat, consist of vinegar, peanut butter, raw veggie, but the problem is that I am not really hungry right now. I would eat it, but not right now. I am too full. Maybe after I get some sleep, I will eat that.
The question is how long does something like this can last, before it goes bad? If I put it in refrigerator, can it last 8 hours?

How long will a kroger ready-to-eat roasted chicken last? food
Clueless bachelor here. I bought a read-to-eat roasted chicken in the bag at my local Kroger grocery store. I drained the fluid and kept it in the bag, in my refrigerator. How long will the meat remain OK to eat?
