CMV: Flour Tortillas are superior to bread changemyview

I haven't bought bread in many years as I find tortillas are better in general.

They keep better. Even putting bread in the refrigerator only works for so long. A stale bread absolutely ruins a sandwich for me. A stale tortilla, which is harder to come by, is less of a problem.

Tortillas are structurally more sound. Try to make a PB&J with bread for work the next day. Between the jelly making the bread soggy or leaking out, it's going to end poorly. Tortillas on the other hand, can be folded to have one end open or no ends opened. They also don't absorb.

Tortillas can hold a wider variety of foods. Some foods don't stack well or are runny. Tortillas can handle that. I love a club sandwich, but with tortillas you wouldn't need the toothpicks.

Also, fewer calories, if you're concerned with that sort of thing.

This argument does not apply to buns. Burgers and hot dogs must not mix with tortillas. I'm not a heathen.

CMV: there should be new regulation on manufacture warranties for consumer protection changemyview

The government should mandate companies (ie appliances) to provide at least a 10 year or more warranty depending on the device. It is very frustrating to purchase anything and when you are at the register they ask if you would like to purchase a warranty. Why should I buy a warranty why don't the companies stand behind their product. I do not understand why these companies are not held accountable for their products. Years ago, you could buy a refrigerator that would last a life-time and now you are lucky if it last 5- 10 years.

CMV: Planned obsolescence, as commonly defined, does not exist on as large a scale as some people suggest. changemyview

Most people have the general idea that manufacturers deliberately use low quality materials and inferior designs with the express purpose of creating a product that will fail within a particular time frame. Specifically, this is done so that the consumer will be essentially 'forced' to purchase another product from the manufacturer if they want to continue using that product^[1].

Planned obsolescence, in this way, guarantees a steady stream of income for the manufacturer as products are sold, used, break and are replaced.

It is specifically this^[2] post which I feel dispels this myth. Essentially, manufacturers are responding to consumer demand and providing a cost-effective product. Take printers, for example. You could build a printer out of solid steel milled parts and welded frames. But such a thing would be astronomically expensive and no one would be able to afford it. And since there is a large market and steady demand for printers (especially affordable ones), manufacturers do what is absolutely logical: they produce a product that is affordable to the average person so that a larger audience can buy their product. The problem with this is that such a product must, by necessity, be made of low-quality parts. In order to supply the quantity of demanded product and still derive a profit to continue making products, certain materials and production techniques must be used.

Many people will point to older products that have survived as examples of how "times were better." But it's important to remember that during the times when these legacy items were made, cheaper versions simply weren't available. If you wanted x, you had to save and buy one of the few examples of x that were present on the market. To say nothing of survivor's bias -- the shitty products from that age are long gone, and only the really well-cared-for or durable ones linger.

If anything, the fact that the average person has a toaster, a blender, a printer, a refrigerator, a computer, an AC unit, a DVD player, a Roku, a TV, a home sound system, security cameras, a closet stuffed full of clothes, a vacuum, a garage full of power tools, and a driveway full of cars -- the list goes on -- is a testament to the ability of manufacturers to produce affordable products. It's not their fault that in order to bring the price down to a level you could afford, they had to make everything out of plastic where possible.

The final nail in the coffin for the myth of planned obsolescence is that there are products that are worth the money and will last a long time. Going back to printers, there are printers that are built like tanks. And their price reflects that. But people have been conditioned to feel entitled to particular luxuries but at the same time don't want to spend an arm and a leg because we've also been told that "things are supposed to be cheap!" Then we wonder why the 200$ printer we got last month didn't perform the same as the 600$ one. Maybe now a quality printer should cost 600$. Billig wird teuer.

This is not to say, of course, that shitty products don't exist. They do, in abundance. But you, the consumer, have a choice. You can buy the the first thing you see when you walk into Target, or you can ask around to see what a good alternative might be. Especially in the age of the internet, it is fantastically easy to do research and see what other people are saying about a particular product. I don't remember the last time I made an uninformed purchase -- sites like Amazon are not only convenient places to buy from, but also fantastic repositories of reviews and information about the quality of goods. If I want a particular thing, it is a simple matter now to do 5 minutes of research to find an example that is well received and won't break immediately and purchase that one. Even if vastly cheaper/more expensive alternatives exist.

In short, it is people's unwillingness to acknowledge that their impulse purchases are just that, impulsive and poorly thought out. Especially when more expensive options exist, it is illogical to assume the product stuffed in a bin at the checkout line is of the same quality as the similar product behind a locked cabinet deeper in the store. If it is that important to you, save up, do your research and make an informed purchase. But don't blame the manufacturer because you were too cheap to get a good model and too lazy to do your research.

tl;dr: most people use "planned obsolescence" to deflect attention away from the fact that they didn't take the time to seek out a quality product and then save money to buy it.

^[1] I should take the time to differentiate between planned obsolescence and a product simply becoming obsolete over time as technology advances -- I'm not suggesting a manufacturer should predict every single technological innovation that will come after the launch of their product, but it is the concept of malicious planning that I am referring to here.

She chose the fork. He told her to undress. He was lightly dragging the tool against her inner thigh when she passed out. He did not penetrate her with it.

Also while living in Orlando, he hit her with white plastic clothes hangers. “He broke a good 30 hangers on my legs,” she said. Around this time, he tried cutting her hair, and he held her head under running water in the bathtub.

In August (2016), XXXTentacion was arrested in a separate case. (As previously reported, he was charged with armed home invasion, robbery, and aggravated battery with a firearm, stemming from an alleged incident in November 2015.

He told her he knew she had cheated on him. He put a knife to her neck, strangled her “a little bit,” and called her a “ho,” she said. That night, he woke her up and told her to go outside, where he picked up an empty glass beer bottle and demanded that she tell him the truth or, “I’m going to fuck you up.” She replied that she already was telling him the truth, that she had cheated and was sorry. He dropped the bottle, slapped her, and let her go back to bed.

In two incidents there (Streetwater, Fl), XXXTentacion grabbed her by the neck, strangled her, and forced her down on the bed before another person who lived there came to the rescue.

After finding out she was pregnant (which she claims was planned by both of them), XXXTentacion called the man she slept with while he was in jail. He then started elbowing, head-butting, and punching her. He strangled her until she almost passed out. He took her to the bathroom and demanded one last time that she tell him everything or he would kill her in the bathtub. She couldn’t even recognize her face in the mirror—it looked “distorted”—and her left eye was completely shut and “leaking blood.” She was losing vision. She vomited.

After she requested to go to the hospital, XXXTentacion told her she couldn’t leave until her face had healed, because otherwise the police would be called. They left her in a bedroom, and XXXTentacion confiscated her phone. She didn’t get it back until he was arrested on October 8.

For the next two days she didn’t leave that room except to use an adjacent bathroom. She couldn’t find a way to flee. There were bars on the windows. “If you’re smart, you would stay with me until you get a car and you have enough money to move into an apartment,” he told her. “Because if you leave now, you’re just setting yourself up for failure. You’re going to be homeless.”

She let him know she was going into the kitchen to make him some food. She opened the refrigerator door wide enough so that he wouldn’t be able to see her if he she crouched down, and then she opened a side door and ran to the nearest main street she knew. She didn’t have any money. She asked someone if she could use their phone and called the only number she knew by heart. It was the number for the ex-boyfriend she had been living with the night she agreed to move in with XXXTentacion.

I feel the need to state that I don't agree with anything XXX does or has done. I think it's despicable. I genuinely thing this is horrible.

At the same time, I'm feeling conflicted because of the newest album he released. I'm not here to debate the quality of the album itself. Let me just say that I really enjoy listening to it.

And now comes the point of the CMV: I see a lot of people deciding to delete XXX's music from their playlists, and stop listening to him, because of what happened. My own girlfriend stopped too. For now, I've also stopped, but I would like to go back and listen, and I think I am okay to do so. The fact that he's a terrible person shouldn't stop me from listening to music I enjoy.

I don't scrutinize each actor/actress for their backgrounds before I watch a movie, and I don't go looking for dirt on music artists before deciding to listen to their music. I simply watch what I like, and listen to what I like.

This article can articulate it better than I ever could.

But I'll be blunt. Technology is not helping us the way it did before.

USB flashdrives are 1000x more efficient than before? But how does that really help our lives? Cloud computing and smartphones? Only a marginal boost in terms of human qol.

Arguably, qol for most people was achieved decades ago. Humanity is seeing its limit. We've hit all the low hanging fruit in terms of technology and science.

We have more scientists and engineers than ever. 100 years ago Silicon Valley didn't exist. We have companies worth 100s of billions that only marginally improve our lives. Electric cars might seem like a revolution, but it won't revolutionize the world. its only an evolution. The ICE was an actual revolution.

Facebook is the most notorious example of this. So many smart people and money is invested into that...but does it really improve human lives?

And before you say all of these things do improve human lives, just remember, there were inventions like penicillin and electricity which pushed humanity much further.

Humans simply are not smart enough to advance technologically anymore. We've picked the low hanging fruits, and now we are struggling with getting actual difficult technology. Like AI and real space travel.

CMV: The Conspiracy Theory Known as Pizzagate is Based in Truth, and Hasn't Been Debunked. changemyview

To conspiracy theorists and “normies” alike, the idea of an Illuminati – a criminal organization of bankers, politicians, and oligarchs – has been nothing more than a joke. The scandal known as Pizzagate has put a spotlight on the powerful people in Washington, and is considered the holy grail of conspiracies.

Look up Pizzagate and you'll find that this conspiracy has been “debunked.” It's “fake news,” and “alt-right/pro-Trump propaganda.”

However, the mainstream media has not addressed any of the major connections presented by conspiracy theorists. They simply say, “this is silly,” and drop it. Snopes, for example, provides no counter evidence. They cite other companies under the Media Matters umbrella, articles from the NY times and Washington Post which have addressed even less.

It should also be noted that the writer of this article, Kim LaCapria has a very interesting tattoo resembling a crescent moon, similar to that of Comet's sign, the Turkish flag, and the bad guys from Taken.

Media Matters was founded by David Brock. He is a former lover of James Alefantis, the owner of Comet Ping Pong. Alefantis and the Comet staff have Instagram accounts full of photos they have taken, all featuring themes of pedophilia and cult activity, or at least cult “art.” A simple Google Search produces more than enough to raise questions.

These photos have not been addressed by any media outlet claiming that the conspiracy has been debunked. Megyn Kelly did feature the photo of a little girl taped to a table during her interview with Alefantis. He claimed it was his “goddaughter” and that she was just “having fun with tape.”

Kelly failed to address the comments next to the photograph of the new refrigerator.

This girl's entire life seems to be documented in Alefantis' photos. Who are her parents?

Comet also holds frequent concerts, featuring bands which sing mostly about pedophilia. These performances also celebrate occult themes.

An Unclassified FBI document shows common symbols used by pedophiles to communicate in the wild.

A few doors down from Comet is Besta Pizza, whose logo up until the scandal contained a known pedophile symbol.

Other businesses in the area also have logos bearing resemblance to these symbols.

Laura Silsby-Gayler is a convicted human trafficker connected with the Clintons and is now in charge of an Amber Alert service.

Alefantis is in frequent contact with Clinton campaign leader John Podesta, as seen by the many campaign rallies at the restaurant, as well as the evidence shown by emails released by Wikileaks.

This brings us back to why Pizzagate happened. Originally, Comet Ping Pong and James Alefantis had gone unnoticed. The term actually comes from the strange coded language in many of the leaked emails, words like pizza and pasta being used in abnormal context.

Among the most notable is a message mentioning a square cloth handkerchief, black with white, and a “pizza-related map” left at an uninhabited residence by Podesta.

In the “dark web,” cheese pizza is a term pedophiles use when asking for child pornography. Handkerchiefs are commonly used by those in the fetish community to signal their preferences.

Pizzagate is a silly term, and one that brings attention to only a small surface portion of a much larger problem. Before #Pizzagate, there was #SpiritCooking.

Marina Abromovic, a world-renowned artist who performs voodoo rituals, sent an email to the Podestas inviting them to something called a Spirit Cooking dinner. This ritual involves mixing blood, semen, and breast milk, and splashing it on the effigy of a child.

Participants are instructed to “cut deeply” into their middle finger. John Podesta is pictured here with a bandaid on his finger and some kind of message written on his palms.

In her Reddit AMA, Abramovic mentioned that the ritual is “real” in private settings,or otherwise more spiritual for the observers. This has cyber-sleuths asking what makes the ritual real, if the fake version uses an effigy?

References to cult activity are also prevalent in the leaked emails, with Hillary Clinton speaking for the goddess Minerva. Other emails make reference to Moloch, the satanic god of child sacrifice, and the location at which the gods are worshiped, Bohemian Grove.

Alex Jones, wacky media personality and proprietor of fake news organization Infowars, snuck a hidden camera into Bohemain Grove – an exclusive club of bankers, politicians, and oligarchs – and captured video of a satanic ritual known as “The Cremation of Care,” presumably symbolizing a release of guilt from their collective conscience. This ritual also makes use of what is hopefully an effigy.

The emails make strange references to children, most strange among them the subject of a pool party, where children are being delivered for "further entertainment."

Tamara Luzzatto, their mother, has a blog where people can view her baby daughter, “raw and uncut,” before she grows up to become “queen of the world, with the power of life and death over you.”

Emails also mention convicted child molester and Republican congressman Dennis Hastert.

Podesta, as noted in a Washington Post article about his glamorous home, decks his halls with paintings of children being bonded and photographs of half-naked teenagers.

This brings us to the most bizarre of Pizzagate claims, but a very convincing one.

In 2007, a little girl by the name of Madeleine McCann was kidnapped while vacationing with her family in Portugal. Scotland Yard released digital efits of the kidnappers. The images bear striking resemblance to the Podesta brothers.

According to leaked emails, Podesta was out of town during the time of McCann's disappearance.

This rabbit hole goes deeper, but I'm stopping here. Whether or not you believe the whole “Pizzagate” conspiracy, human trafficking is a very real thing, and the only people who can afford to be a part of it are the rich and powerful.

CMV: I don't give a shit if items or goods are "Made in USA" changemyview

This is my view as an American: I don't give a shit if items or goods are "Made in USA". I think far too much emphasis and purchasing decisions are placed on whether or not something is "Made in USA".

It seems a lot of people have that outdated mentality that the Chinese do not have high product quality standards. Like any country it depends on the merchant, just like in the USA there are bad quality and good quality products. It's 2017, do some of you think the Chinese have not "caught on" to their bad quality or health-hazard stereotype? The Chinese are not stupid and are NOT static. Do you think the Chinese are somehow ignorant to the "bad quality" claims and would like to continue to have this negative stereotype about their products? Answer: No, even before 2000 Chinese companies have made many, many steps to improve their reputation and have done so dramatically by meeting International Standardization Organization Standards and other regulatory standards throughout the world.

I can recall in the 80s the "Buy American" movement and the reputation of the American automobile industry. The Ford Pinto, Escort, Maverick and the Chevy Corvair were some of the biggest pieces of junk rolling on 4 wheels. The Toyota Corolla, Cressida, Camry and Celica would easily last hundreds of thousands of miles.

I seldom check country of manufacture prior to making a purchase. If there is an item that I need to buy, I buy it. Whether I need new socks or a new refrigerator, I will not put forth the extra effort, extra research and extra money to seek out and purchase those items made in USA (if they are even made in USA). I recall an article a couple years back that said if an iPhone was to be made in USA, it would cost somewhere north of $3,000. I'm guessing for the majority of you, your flag-waving pride would go out the window when faced with this amount of sticker shock.

tl;dr - made in USA does NOT always mean better. Just because something is made in USA does not give it an automatic stamp of quality.

1) Why do you hold your view?

I'm a guy and place a very high value on women, and the prize (of course) is access to her vagina (let's be blunt). In the mathematical analysis, there are far more willing men seeking sex from reluctant women which creates a sexual dynamic favoring women. To me, being a woman is like having a refrigerator full of your favorite beverage available any time you are thirsty. She can always go and open the door and grab whatever she wants - it's all free to her. After a while, it's easy to see how this free access becomes boring, or taken for granted. The guy's refrigerator on the other hand is empty since men don't have any women trying to get in their pants. The guy is thirsty and places a much higher value n what's in his refrigerator since it's always empty.

2) Is there any evidence you can use to support your view?

I have never once seen a woman place any value on "the penis" as a source of pleasure; in fact, penises are routinely considered disgusting, illegal in most places, and cause real trauma to women who see it (as opposed to a guy seeing a woman's vagina would think he won the lottery). The last evidence is that women regularly masturbate without penetration and consider something penetrating them to be distracting or unnecessary. Rubbing feels better for women that a penis does. In this way, the penis is extremely selfish and "takes advantage" of a woman when all it wants is to go in the vagina where it feels best for him - not for her. Now I know some women use a vibrator,

CMV: Queen Elsa of Arendelle is unfit to be a ruler, judging by her terrible decision-making, especially at the end of the movie. changemyview

There are some less-than-optimal things Elsa does before the climax of the movie, but I think those are forgivable due to her being afraid of her own powers and having been kept ignorant and isolated by her parents. So I'm mainly concerned with her post-climax rulings.

There are two decisions that show lack enough lack of foresight as to render her unqualified to lead. First, and by far the most harmful thing she does, is to spitefully end all trade relations with Weaselton. Holy self-imposed embargo, Batman! Forget all of your people whose livelihoods are going to be destroyed by your personal beef with the Duke. So he's an asshole. Should she let something that petty get in the way of economic prosperity? Remember, Weaselton is their largest trade partner. The hurt lives of the merchants in Arendelle and Weaselton (who are innocent in all this), the economic depression, and the fact that nothing is gained other than being able to insult the Duke of Weaselton add up to Queen Elsa showing she has a Trump-esque understanding of economic and social relationships. I could rest my case there, but there's more.

Elsa also decides to completely insult Sven and Kristoff by making them the 'Official Ice Master and Deliverer'. So she has unlimited power to create ice out of nothingness but instead of using it whenever the kingdom needs it, she makes one of the heroes of Arendelle do a useless job. She's like the invention of the refrigerator, and he's (quite literally) the ice delivery man that should have been made obsolete. He should have been retrained into doing something more productive due to the new productive efficiency found in Elsa's powers. He's a relic of the past and Elsa again shows her lack of understanding of economics in deciding to protect the status quo. Where is her vision?

Lastly, she sends Hans back to his homeland to be punished after he attempted multiple murders and a coup d'état of an entire kingdom. "Let's see how his brothers feel about his behavior." WTF? Apples don't fall far from trees. His brothers might be just as sociapthic as Hans is. She should have put him on trial in Arendelle where the crimes were committed.

So Elsa is a terrible leader and should be dethroned. CMV!

CMV: One who trespasses onto someone's clearly marked property/steals food from a communal fridge/etc, should forfeit the right to sue or press charges for getting hurt/falling prey to a non-lethal trap. changemyview

To clarify, scenarios such as:

1) A person ignoring "no trespassing" signage and fencing/etc and enters said land and gets hurt (such as stepping on a rake or other sharp tool) or triggering a non-lethal trap.

2) Someone willfully and knowingly stealing food from a communal refrigerator (like in an office, or a dwelling full of roommates) and happens to eat something with laxatives or something they may be allergic to.

3) Or a theif falls through a skylight of his target's home and gets cut on a kitchen knife upon landing.

In cases like these, the person committing the initial crime has sometimes sued and/or pressed charges against the property or food owner.

This is just wrong. I honestly believe when a person violates another, they should loose the right to sue or press charges should they get hurt while committing the crime.

To be clear, however, I'm not really advocating the use of booby traps or any deadly automated apparatus, or in the case of food, blatantly poisoning, but rather just that one shouldn't be able to use the system against someone they were actively and knowingly violating.

The Internet of Things, or IoT, is a movement in modern electronics and communications systems that encourages inter-connectivity between previously separate devices, such as connecting your phone with your home AC control system.

I think it's a load of bullocks.

I'm a 24 year old electronics enthusiast, an electrical engineer by degree, and I enjoy innovative technical design and new technology. However, I cannot for the life of me understand why so many of today's most talented programmers and engineers are obsessed with the IoT. I cannot begin to guess why TI and NXP and other chip manufacturer giants would pander to these deranged developers' passion for needless device upgrades.

Here are my reasons for feeling about the IoT the way I do:

1. I see no evidence that there is a market desire for IoT products.

2. I see no reason a person would benefit from having a refrigerator, toaster, door bell, radio, etc. be controllable by smart phone. It seems that 99.9% of IoT "innovation" is throwing bluetooth and wifi into something that worked just fine before.

CMV: Every hotel room should have a refrigerator and a microwave. changemyview

I am a consultant, so I travel Monday-Thursday of every week. I am typically in a different city every few weeks, so I am not staying in the same hotel each week. Some projects allow me to stay wherever I would like, and others impose a restriction (typically based on the cost per night at the hotel). Therefore, I have stayed anywhere from the classiest/most expensive hotels to the cheapest little roadside motels. One thing that I have noticed that continues to shock me is this: often the cheapest of the cheap hotels have both a refrigerator (usually mini) and a microwave in the room, and the expensive or even middle-of-the-line/standard (think: Marriott, Hilton, etc.) do not have these room amenities unless you are staying in a suite rather than a regular room. What could the reason for this be? I understand that people staying in more expensive hotels may be wealthier and therefore can afford to go out to eat each night, so they may not need a refrigerator and microwave. I don't care how rich you are; sometimes nothing beats coming 'home' to your hotel room and just heating up your leftovers from last night's dinner.

CMV: I'm American, I hate my country and hope to relinquish my citizenship one day changemyview

Before I begin, I'll give some brief stats:

Ethnicity: Black

Age: 18 Hometown: Memphis, Tennessee (moved to Germantown when I was 11, although no one here really considers it separate from Memphis).

Travelled to: the majority of the states (there are only a few like New Jersey and Montana that I have not visited) and big/popular cities (Los Angeles, NYC, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, etc.) Interests: I really love geography and learning about other cultures and have an intense desire to travel and live in other countries and experience what they have to offer. Thanks to what the US is offering, I want to live elsewhere permanently and revoke my citizenship at some point in the future. I'm an American, and I can say wholeheartedly that I loathe this country and what it's about.

• The nationalism is atrocious. It's so pungent to the point where it's jingoistic now; the militaryesque pledges that you're indirectly, and sometimes directly pressured into in schools on a daily basis for 18 years is a form of brainwashing. Why am I standing towards a flag? Why am I reciting this pledge? How the hell is standing towards a flag supposed to pay respects to the veterans that fought for this country? Is standing in front of my refrigerator supposed to help world hunger?

• The prejudice is atrocious. This country is hailed for its diversity and yet we don't get along with each other, even people within the same ethnicity. I'll use blacks as a first hand example. A black person is discriminated against for a variety of factors, in my experience mostly for your behaviour and your appearance (skin tone). If you act "white", or in other words be proper, make good grades, not act like a hood rat, etc., you're already an outcast. And skin tone is another thing too. Dark-skinned blacks are discriminated by lighter-skinned blacks, which are discriminated against even-lighter skinned blacks. It never fucking ends. And while on the subject of blacks, let me talk about this:

• The over representation of blacks is disgusting. No other minority (asians, hispanics, latinos, semitic people, etc) get any representation here. Any discrimination against them is ignored while discrimination against blacks is put on the front news paper nationwide. I'm aware this is due in part that blacks have had a longer history in this country, but it's really sickening to see this hive mind among blacks; they don't acknowledge the struggles other minorities go through. It's all about ME ME ME ME ME, what BLACKS are going through, not what other MINORITIES are going through. Racism in this country has and still is one-sided. • The political correctness is absurd. I often find white people are so scared to talk to blacks because they're afraid of offending them. They're scared of saying something "racist" to them to the point where they sometimes avoid us all together because of the hypersensitivity that's placed on them. Whites are very uncomfortable talking about race due to blacks blaming them for an array of issues (which is very misplaced), mainly for slavery (which is ironic, since they seem to ignore that Africans were the ones who allowed the slave trade to happen to begin with--and not all white ethnicities participated in slavery either).

• The education is awful. Public and private alike (I've been to both for multiple years) is packed with absurd amounts of infodumping. The US has a sluggish ranks in education and I believe this Speed Runner-like curriculum is due in part of trying to catch up with other countries on an intellectual level. Conclusion: by the time you come out of school, you don't learn anything except the bare essentials.

• Loads of Americans are ignorant. We have this mentality that "MURRICA IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD" and with that type of mindset we ignore other cultures and its people in the process. The assimilation culture this country has created a clusterfuck of a culture, something that can barely be called a culture in itself as it has no...passion. Nothing. It's just specs of random cultures often misused and appropriated. People have to drop their culture in order to fit in as well, which I am extremely displeased with. It hinders diversity culturally in this country. No one is interested in anything multicultural either, despite this country's "culture" being founded upon that. Americans do not like learning new languages; according to censuses it is reported that 20-25% of Americans--obviously immigrants--speak a second language at home. And outside of California and New York--the two places where a great deal of the diversity is, seeing anything multicultural is weird. Even seeing people speak second languages in my home state is weird.

• Adding on, I don't like how Americans have arrogant attitudes towards other countries. We learn at a very early age that America is important and so is our language, and so we don't take the time to learn about what goes on outside of America. This is perhaps why Americans are labeled as stupid, since we don't take the time to learn about anything that's not discussed in America...which isn't much (see the education bit). I also dislike how when travelling abroad, Americans do not take the time to learn the language of the country that they're in. I find that extremely disrespectful how you come on their soil and expect them to cater to you. Now I see why areas like Quebec and countries like France has such negative thoughts about English being spoken in their country. If you're in France--even if your French is choppy--speak it. Go back to America if you're hellbent on speaking your language.

• How we shout to the hills about our freedoms, yet America doesn't have many. If you check statistics, America has pathetic rankings in freedom of press, democracy, etc. And America is most certainly not the best country either: has atrocious rankings incarceration rates, infant mortality, crime, overall peace/satisfaction, etc.

People say I'm crazy for wanting to leave this country and I don't get it. I'm the only person I know who actually is not satisfied with the way things are going, despite statistics showcasing the decline of this country. The American Dream is dead, yet people still seem to think that it's alive. No, I don't want to move to California. No, I don't want to live in NYC; I don't want to fucking live in a shopping district. Whenever people suggest me places to live it's always in the United States, as life does not exist outside this country. That's always the impression I've felt when people talk about the US, as if it is the centre of the earth and everything outside of it is toxic and inhabitable. I've been scolded for wanting to move to other countries, saying that I'm a nut and stupid for wanting to do so, but I'm really am taken aback by no one else actually seeing what's going on in this country. The opportunities are dying, and this country isn't what it used to be anymore. It's gotten way out of control and is past the point of repair. I'm young and have time on my hands. I've lived in this country for almost two decades, why am I going to spend the rest of my life here when I have the world to explore? Why do I get called crazy by fellow Americans for wanting to even TRAVEL outside of America? I don't get it at all. I'm not proud of being American; if anything, I'm ashamed that I live in a cesspool of ignorance like I am now. I'm not proud at all of being American and I hope one day that I can revoke my citizenship (when I gain citizenship of another country) so I can remove this stain from my identity.

And for any con arguments against revoking, the only family I care to visit is my parents, my sister, and a few of my mother's siblings (in particular one aunt). I can easily come in the United States, especially if I'm coming from countries like Canada or Australia, and get a 90-day travel visa. If anything the revokation has benefits, since U.S. citizens are taxed on all income worldwide, regardless if it was earned in the United States or not. Since I plan to live in multiple countries, this is something worth considering so I don't have a third-to half my income taken by the U.S. government for money that wasn't even earned in their country.

CMV: I think the Deus Ex prequels - and other sci-fi stories in the same vein - depicting the future as a paranoid anti-augmentation (and anti-tech) society that discriminates against people possessing augmentations are silly. changemyview

(Holy shit, I really botched that title.)

Now, nothing against the prequel - I did enjoy it, and I don't care for angry 90s grognard nerd rage against reboots - but this particular bit of the story felt weird.

To me, it feels like a technologically advanced country like America - and in the sequel, the world forcing people with robot limbs into ghettos (and people with robot limbs becoming firebrand radicals) - to treat said people with robot limbs on a worse level than poor minorities or the transgendered doesn't ring true at all. It's like being racist against a guy with a big laptop or a fancy phone when most people own some form of smartphone or interact with computers. Yes, I know, it was partially addressed in Deus Ex with it being part of a widening gap between the rich and everyone else, and I'm comparing being able to throw refrigerators at people with ease, being able to fling explosions everywhere without being harmed, and the ability to turn invisible to having an expensive computer, but Jensen's augs - and the goons he fights - seem to be military-oriented tech, and not something an upper-middle-class person who wanted to run without getting winded or needed a new arm that worked better than the one they were born with would have.

This could just be because we don't really see a lot of the anti-aug problems (they took our jobs, abominations to humanity, etc.) firsthand in Human Revolution because we're too busy fighting a conspiracy, and the low-level cyborgs didn't feel different from fighting regular grunts.

I'm a bit biased - I live in San Jose and go to a college in Cupertino that isn't far from the Apple Campus - so I'm constantly surrounded by hi-tech trappings, interacting with people who work with or help make said trappings, and I work not too far from a place that has 3D printers open to anyone who pays a fee.

CMV: A refrigerator should be a required condition of habitability, not just an amenity. changemyview

Just moved to California starting look for an apartment. much to my dismay 9/10 apartments I viewed do not include refrigerators in the lease. I'm from Detroit - where every single apartment I viewed had a fridge included. The first apartment I went to I was like - WHAT? NO FRIDGE????

In California, a refrigerator is not a habitable condition. It's an amenity. I found out via r/personalfinance that in Texas - an air conditioning unit is a habitable condition - meaning the landlord must provide and repair it. In fact, when your A/C unit breaks (and its not tenants' fault), you might not owe rent for days its broken because the unit is only livable while the A/C is working per Texas law.

There are several reasons state law should change to make a fridge a habitable condition.

• I believe every other state requires this as a habitable condition, correct me if I'm wrong. In my personal opinion an apartment without a fridge in not habitable, wouldn't you agree? but more importantly....

• There's a lot of illegal bait-and-switch going on in the apartment rental market. I'm shopping for an apartment now and I would say about half the listings that say "fridge included" are just outright lies. I caught a landlord in this lie just yesterday. He said "oh well I must have made a mistake online..." This also happens with dishwashers and with rent prices. You're not fooling any damn body, you listed imaginary apartment with fake pictures, just to get people to show up so you can start throwing sales shit at them. Sometimes, in areas where the market is really hot (such as West Hollywood), people sign for apartments without having seen the inside first (because the unit is already leased by the time previous tenants move out). Making a fridge an optional amenity gives landlords the ability to LIE and say the unit comes with a fridge and then when they move in, they find out that the fridge belonged to the previous tenants. You might say "well they should read the lease before they sign" but that logic only holds up in theory. In reality you know there are people getting screwed over on this issue. Such as people from other states who it never occurred to them that a fridge might not be included.

• California law should mimc Texas law When a habitable condition appliance breaks, the landlord is losing rent money every day it sits broken. In Michigan, when a unit is unlivable, a tenant can break a lease with no penalty and no notice. That gives them very strong incentive to hurry up and fix it already. If Texas does this with air conditioners, why cant California do this with a damn refrigerator?

CMV: People should be standing out side with signs that read "Stop Inflation!" as a opposed to signed that read "15/Hour!" changemyview

I saw a post about about workers wanting $15 an hour and I can't seem to wrap my head around how the public hasn't decided that inflation is the problem and instead decided that the companies that actually employ them are? Its so short sighted and is as if the whole of society has just accepted the rat race created by the Federal reserve's mandate to create inflation and just seem to want additional check points along the way with cheese so they can keep running the maze. It would make more sense to me to just stop inflation so the poor (or everyone for that matter) stop getting taxed (which is what inflation is) every time the Fed prints a dollar.

I know many people will say that deflation is bad because if prices come down then people won't spend while waiting for a better deal and we will just get stuck in a downward spiral of jobs getting lost while everyone waits to spend their money. I never understood that argument either because with all products from TV's to refrigerators to cars and even homes people buy them as soon as they can afford it because they want it now. TV's come down in price every year... doesn't stop people from buying one every couple of years to get the best tech that's on the market. Despite decent used cars being available people still buy new ones. there really is no logical basis for any prolonged collapse spiral due to people waiting for a better price on everything. That's just not how it works

The only real problem we have now is that rat maze that has been built over the last 100 or so years due to constant inflation of the money supply is that if we were to correct to the problem and shut down the maze the result would be temporary catastrophic as the deflation (or lack of cheese) that would occur that would bring us back to some sense of normalcy would be pretty painful. I know this is probably the biggest reason why no politician will touch this subject and why we need to be in the streets actually demanding it so we ca get rid of the systemic issue that is slowly (faster for some) driving us all into poverty.

CMV: I should eat Lunchables every day changemyview

As an adult man who counts calories daily, I'm always trying to find food that is cheap and either easy to prepare or possible to prepare all at once at the start of the week. I've tried several alternatives including salads and slow cooked meat, but they tended to be expensive and not necessarily keep or reheat as well as I'd like.

For that reason, I present lunchables, specifically the cheese pizza kind, as the best choice for me for dinner. They are cheap, costing between $1 and $2 each depending on sales and how far I'm willing to drive to buy them. They keep in the refrigerator all week with no issue. They have only 270 calories, allowing me to supplement the meal in a number of ways without going over my daily limit. They have 16g protein, which is not as good as meat dishes but is still quite a bit. You prepare them as you eat them, which slows down the process, allowing you to feel more full. But they also require no heating and the additional prep time is minimal compared to many other meals.

What it would take to change my view:

1. An example of a better meal with similar or greater protein content and less than 400 calories that isn't too expensive

2. A specific reason why eating them every day would be unhealthy. Not just general concerns about processed food, but a specific ingredient or other factor.

3. Something else I haven't thought of

What won't change my view:

1. Subjective arguments about taste or repetitiveness. I enjoy the taste and actually prefer to eat the same thing every weekday.

2. Anything involving chicken. I already have chicken for lunch every day, and that actually would be too repetitive.

CMV: Soda, specifically Sprite, tastes better when it is drank(sp?) from an aluminum can, rather than a plastic bottle, a fountain with ice, or a glass. changemyview

It is my belief that the best way to drink soda is from an aluminum can. For my purposes, because of what is available most often to me recently, I will be using Sprite as my primary example.

For this discussion, I will only be considering the most frequently used drinking apparatuses that are available to be purchased by any who might casually partake in the drinking of soda. These are, in no particular order, an aluminum can, a plastic bottle (such as those you would get out of a vending machine), a fountain (found primarily in convenience stores or restaurants), a two liter bottle, and a glass (having poured the soda from any of the previous).

My argument is based on a few factors.

The first being the coldness of the drink. I believe that the normal opinion would be that soda is most enjoyable when cold. How cold is a very subjective topic, but for our uses we'll go with cold, and specifically the length of chill available with each apparatus. The can is a clear winner here. The can, when chilled properly in a refrigerator, can hold the chill of the soda the longest, while it is drank in any normal conditions, those being a room temperature location, or even a hot day outside. The plastic bottle and the glass as well as the fountain under perform in the area. For the glass and the fountain specifically, it is because both will require ice in order to reach the same cold threshhold for the same amount of time as the can. A necessity for a third party resource is a huge detriment to those apparatuses.

Second is the flavor of the soda itself. The glass and fountain are clear losers here as both require (in most peoples opinions) ice to be enjoyed properly. As soon as that ice hits that soda, it begins melting at some rate. Which means that you are not enjoying pure sprite because it is now laced with an unproportionate amount of water that the original recipe did not intend. The fountain loses again in this area due to its nature of creation. The fountain pours the syrup and soda water into the drinking receptacle at an even pace and is not always proportional. Sometime the feeding apparatus will pour more of one or the other causing a disgusting drink. At the very least, it is never guaranteed with the fountain that you are receiving the correct recipe of the mixture provided. That kind of risk makes it undesirable in the long run.

The final area I would like to consider is carbonation. Flat soda is gross soda. If you disagree with that statement, I believe it is safe to say that you are in the minority. Cans hold carbonation the best due to their nature of being much more securely sealed than bottles. Further more, because the cans size is meant to be the perfect drinking amount for one siting, it is more likely to be wholly consumed while the can is opened for that initial period when carbonation might be released. Bottle often come in 16 and 20oz sizes, which is often too much for one sitting and is consumed over larger periods of time. Even though they are resealable, they are still losing slight levels of carbonation over those periods of times, leading to a decreased level of optimal drinking at each future drinking point.

This is my first CMV, and as it is largely based on subjective opinions, I am very open to discussion.

CMV: I have no sympathy for violent thugs - none at all. changemyview

I won't say the #BlackLivesMatter movement is entirely without merit, but the fact that anybody sympathizes with Brown baffles the Hell out of me. Could it be possible, not to side with Wilson because of racism, but because Brown and his family are pretty shitty people? Watch that convenience store video - the giant beast assaults and threatens a poor shopkeeper minding his own business, before making off with stolen cigars to roll blunts with. He was facing multiple felonies already, if he ended up arrested. The video shows he was ready to terrify and attack law-abiding innocents. No surprise that he'd get all defensive when approached by law enforcement, or that he'd attack a cop at the slightest provocation. There is entirely no evidence that Wilson was a sadistic, racist murderer who shot poor blacks because he could. If anything, Brown and his family represent thuggery in its purest form - a willingness to violently attack society for no higher purpose than hedonism - be it Michael terrorizing shopkeepers and police officers, his father screaming to provoke riots after the courts were unsympathetic for his late loser son, or his mother violently attacking and vandalizing the other parent for trying to capitalize on her son's comeuppance. This family is a dysfunctional pack of losers, representing the very worst of black America.

I don't sympathize with violent criminal thugs like Rodney King of Michael Brown or Freddy Gray because despite being unfairly born into shitty circumstances, they chose the easy way out and turned to benefit by breaking basic societal rules and immiserating others. Go ahead and compare the Baltimore rioters to Robin Hood - they're only hurting themselves in the end. There are good ways out of poverty and marginalization - thuggery isn't one of them.

Before you tell me how bad they have it, consider that most have running water, refrigerators, at least one car, a smartphone, basic education, and Internet access. Large swaths of Earth's population can only dream of being poor in America. Waves and waves of immigrants have gotten through on less. What's Black America's excuse? What makes them so eager to revert to third world behavior, when the going gets tough?

CMV: Autism is caused, at least in part, by infant neglect ("Refrigerator Mother" hypothesis) changemyview

There's a reason the human genome project hasn't found the gene for it after decades of searching - it doesn't exist. The best we've done is find a few weak correlations, and I'll allow that these probably play a small role in predisposing children to autism, as does being male.

But the lion's share of blame rests with neglectful mothers. It isn't necessarily malicious treatment, just neglectful. The reason autism rates are rising is that we live in an increasingly narcissistic society and a narcissistic mother is often just too self-absorbed to care much about anyone else, including her children - read some /r/raisedbynarcissists for mindblowing stories about this. There may also be resentment toward the child for the body changes associated with pregnancy and childbirth for a narcissistic woman who places high emphasis on her body, which may help explain why rates of autism are higher for firstborn children.

We learn at a phenomenal rate as infants, so much and so fast that if we miss the window of opportunity to learn certain things we never get another chance. I remember reading somewhere that if an infant were blindfolded for the first three months of life and then had the blindfold removed, it would be blind for the rest of its life.

Think of an infant getting adequate maternal attention: mom's friendly face invites interaction, they babble back and forth at one another, there's plenty of eye contact - all things autists struggle with. Now imagine an infant without these things... it will take note of "things" in the absence of people, eg. that it has 6 stuffed animals, or that there are 28 books on the bookshelf - stuff autists tend to notice. We have strong evidence that nurture (rather, lack thereof) is at least a factor from the Romanian orphans referenced in the Time link below.

We didn't evolve with easy distractions such as TV, shopping malls, iPhones, etc. and so we didn't evolve countermeasures to being extremely neglected during the crucial first few months / years of life. Even in the case of maternal death the tribe would look after an infant. It's only now in the modern, western, suburban world that a woman can put an infant in a crib and ignore it as she focuses on herself.

The "refrigerator mother" hypothesis which gained popularity in the 1940s only fell out of vogue in the 60s-70s due to pressure from feminism and its assertion that women are perfect and may never be criticized. The actual evidence against it, as well as evidence for a genetic cause of autism, is scarce. Science has been shamed into losing its objectivity here, as is so often the case. For example cannabis is only now escaping stigma and prohibition based on a few flawed studies, and the studies which have recently shed light on the substance were restricted for decades, if allowed at all.

At almost 40 years old I'm too ancient to have ridden the aspergers diagnosis wave, but I'm positive I would have been diagnosed if I were 10-15 years younger. I was severely abused and neglected by my two moms throughout childhood, and while I obviously can't remember my infancy, I have no reason to doubt it was much different from my later childhood which I do remember. We're comfortable with teaching "him" (IOW, every man and boy) not to rape, why can't we have campaigns to teach "her" not to abuse and neglect her children? Regardless of whether I do have aspergers (never bothered seeking adult diagnosis), and regardless of whether the neglect I endured caused it, a campaign like this could have really helped me.
