When I moved out of the house, I told the realtor that everything left was earmarked for charity. There are some things where I wish that I had loaded them in my car and took them to the thrift store myself to make sure they didn't just go in the dumpster..... (Oh god, what if they just got a dumpster.)
Anyway, when the movers were done, I went through and made sure that there was nothing I wanted left in the house. With a large cooler full of food (that we later lost to a bad refrigerator in the new place) the stuff I still wanted to keep plus my travel essentials barely fit in the car.
I did make passes at the garage, but that mess had always been my husband's responsibility and so it remained a mess. I apologetically showed it to the realtor when I gave her the keys and told her it was a mix of trash and treasure. I suggested HFH would love the tools. (The garage was full when we bought the house, but I had made an attempt to clean it out in the beginning. Most of what was left was things we threw in there.)
I'm also finding things in the new house that I had intended to leave behind, but those are small enough to drive to a thrift store here.
